This book was an absolute joy to read. As always, Charelle and I resonated with different parts and pieces, and maybe more so than past books the sections we pulled out clearly illustrated the ways our brains work so differently, which is always fun to see. I have been following the author, Elise Blaha Cripe, for a long time, and when she came out with her book I immediately jumped on getting a copy. I really admire Elise for her creativity and dedication to making space for joy, whether it's a craft project or a baking experiment or a business venture. She's currently on a break from social media, but you can still find plenty of inspiration by scrolling her Instagram page, @elisejoy. Big Dreams Daily Joys is an intuitive, approachable and honestly visually fun book for anyone who could use some fresh ideas for making progress, setting goals, and making time for the things that matter most. There were so many jewels in this book we couldn't cover them all, So if you enjoy this discussion and you learn something, you will definitely want to pick up a copy for yourself. Plus it's really, really beautiful. Episode 21 of the We Built This Life podcast is about 7 Tips for Reaching Personal Goals. Last month, I reached my big personal goal of 20 podcast episodes, which is a number I have been working toward since starting my podcast in September of 2019. In this episode, I talk about the steps I took to reach this goal, including: Finding time; Dealing with feelings of rejection and protecting the ego; Making adjustments along the way; and more. I also talk about why I started this podcast and my new goals going forward. Although I focus on the steps I personally took to reach my podcasting goal—I mainly speak in terms of my own experience so as not to seem like an expert—I think you can apply these tips to whatever personal goal you are working toward, whether it's podcasting or something else. As always, thank you so much for listening! Mentioned in this episode: Elise Blaha Cripe's website – She has a lot of content about goals including a book (Big Dreams, Daily Joys) and a recent podcast episode about how she keeps track of her plans (five episodes back at the moment). You can find both of these on this website. Get to Work Book – Elise Cripe's planner plus goal setting book. Subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Stitcher, Spotify, or listen on my website, follow and get in touch on Instagram (where I am most active), like on Facebook, or email webuiltthislifepodcast@gmail.com (but getting in touch through IG DM is better!)!

We hear from Elise Blaha Cripe, a small business owner who makes and sells handmade products, creates e-courses, and runs her great planner company, Get to Work Book. Elise has done many things over the course of her career, many of them simultaneously. She is deeply honest and authentic, powerfully insightful, and very practical. She talks about the challenges she has faced in solo parenting and running a business during coronavirus while her husband is deployed… and she shares the perspective shift she had that allowed her to move forward and even bump up sales. I think you’ll love this episode -- Elise is a maker through and through and she somehow takes all the pressure off while also making everything seem possible.

Today I’m joined by Elise Blaha Cripe, perhaps better known online as Elise Joy, to talk all things goal-setting and productivity. Elise was a maker and blogger, but over time found the thing that she was most excited by was helping others achieve their goals, so she developed and launched Get To Work Book, the planner you’ve likely seen some of your favourite business owners using on Instagram. Her new book, Big Dreams Daily Joys builds upon this goal-setting passion. Today we cover the gamut from setting goals in the first place, to breaking them down, dealing with procrastination and how to have a productive day.

Today's guest is Elise Blaha Cripe, who you may know as the creative professional behind the Get to Work Book planner, or the host of podcast Elise Gets Crafty. Most importantly, Elise is one of those people who can’t NOT talk about books—who loves to be reading, and loves to share what she reads. Today we talk about Elise’s love of big, thick books, the three places she gets her book recommendations, and how the true sign of a great book is if it makes Elise forget she has a phone.Click over to the podcast website for the full list of titles discussed in this episode, and leave us a comment to let us know what YOU think Elise should read next!Connect with Elise: Website | Instagram | Goodreads.Connect with Anne: Blog | Twitter | Facebook | Instagram | WSIRN Instagram

She has been sharing thoughts and DIY projects since 2005 and running an online shop of handmade goods since 2008. Recently, Elise launched a daily planner & goal-setting workbook called Get To Work Book. Elise also hosts a weekly podcast, elise gets crafty, that focuses on handmade business, blogging, creativity and inspiration. As I mention in my intro of this episode Elise is kind of my girl boss crush. Ask Danielle and she will confirm this, so having Elise on the show was super fun. As we do with each guest we start out discussing what their definition of success is. Elise shares so many wonderful thoughts on what success is for her. "That balance of being challenged by the work you are doing and being satisfied by the work you are doing." Elise shares that this applies to not just to work, but also to relationships, parenthood, life in general! "I don't think success is I've climbed to the top of the mountain, I did it. I think it's more as you're climbing to the top of the mountain. That's where the most reward and most satisfaction comes." Elise also talks about the satisfaction that comes from striving towards something, a goal, a task etc. "There is a lot of successful feelings that come from working on something." We talk about the value of looking back and seeing how far you've come versus just focusing on how far you still have to go or what you still haven't accomplished yet. Elise shares with us the story of not getting the desk job with a specific path just out of college and how that shaped her life. She shares how if she would have been given an offer she would have taken the more comfortable path, but clearly the universe had a different plan. Elise studied marketing in college and shares how the marketing principles she learned in college she now gets to apply to her business today. We also talk about setting boundaries. Whether you are in a corporate job or own your own business you have to set boundaries. Elise also shares a lot of great valuable insight about working and and being a mom. Great advice for those who work from home or outside the home. She shares how she put too much pressure on herself after her first daughter was born, how she plans to slow down when her second daughter arrives in November.
I was so excited to have Elise Blaha Cripe back on the show! This week, we talked all about goal-setting and getting things done. Elise is a MASTER at setting (and sharing) her goals and I was excited to chat with her about the practical steps of how she gets things done and how her business (and goals!) has evolved over time. We also got to talk about two of Elise's bigger projects: Make29 and her Get to Work Book (amazing!) and how these projects have played into each other and what she's learned about everything. And, a conversation about goals and doing the work wouldn't be complete without diving into a discussion about fear and comparisons and all that good stuff. We covered a lot in this conversation! Elise, thank you SO MUCH! It's always a treat to be able to share time with you! **100 Rejection Letters** - Registration open through 10/31/16 Show Notes: Connect with Elise: Website | Blog | Instagram | Twitter The Get To Work Book | Instagram | the walk-through video Elise's Make29 project Elise's earlier episode of Raise your Hand Say Yes about starting Elise's Podcast (and my episode: Say no to say yes.)
