He explains the underperformance of gold mining stocks and touches on labor costs in Australia. Peter also critiques current market sentiments, especially around Bitcoin, arguing against Michael Saylor's extreme advocacy and highlighting the potential risks of institutional investments in Bitcoin. Schiff then shifts gears to politics, offering a critical analysis of Donald Trump's economic policies, including misleading claims about inflation and tariffs. He also examines Trump's stance on entitlements and his approach to immigration reform. Concluding with poignant contrasts between the Daniel Penny and Luigi Mangione cases, Peter offers a compelling narrative on the current socio-political climate.

Five Republican candidates trailing former President Donald Trump in the polls took to the debate stage to talk about foreign and domestic policy while trading barbs Wednesday in the third GOP debate. Trump skipped the debate Wednesday in Miami as he did the first two debates. The candidates on the stage – former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, businessman Vivek Ramaswamy and U.S. Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina – had plenty to discuss without Trump. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/america-in-focus/support

As politicians and pundits wring their hands over the debt ceiling, the economist and Boston University professor Laurence Kotlikoff, PhD '77, says the United States is already bankrupt. He calculates the health care and pension obligations to the country's rapidly aging population in the many trillions of dollars, far outpacing tax revenue in the coming decades. And he says economic growth won't save us. But he claims to have a few proposals that may, as well as some advice about personal investing, saving, and spending in uncertain times.
Republicans should take the bait on entitlement reform because what the left is proposing is just bankruptcy.

During President Biden's State of the Union address the House chamber erupted into cheering as Republicans and Democrats voiced their support for Social Security and Medicare. But amidst all of the applause... our lawmakers seem to be missing the bigger picture: these entitlement programs are going bankrupt and costing Americans a fortune. Chris Pope from the Manhattan Institute explains where we're at and what reforms are needed.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Entitlement reform has long been a "don't go there" issue in our politics, but not talking about this issue may be a luxury we can no longer afford. This year is sure to have debate on the issue, and discussion held on whether or not we can change our entitlement structure to be more sustainable, or if we should change anything at all. What is the best way forward when it comes to entitlements? Jim Capretta from the American Enterprise Institute joins the show to discuss the problems and solutions regarding this sticky issue.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In a special bonus episode, Americans for Tax Reform President Grover Norquist joins the show to recap the various state-level tax cut referendums that won big on Election Day. From Illinois to Colorado, blue-state voters rejected tax hikes even as they backed Joe Biden in wide margins. What can we take away from these state-level victories for the national debate? So, too, we break down what Biden's tax hikes would mean for the economy. Is it true that he would only raise taxes on "the rich?" What about the Obamacare taxes? And who really bears the burden of corporate tax hikes? Then, we discuss President Trump's strong record on tax cuts and deregulation. To what extent were the benefits undercut by harmful tariffs and "Trade War" fallout? Finally, we analyze the right-of-center debate over a "carbon tax" to address climate change. Is it justifiable from a conservative perspective to address a negative environmental externality? Or are there free-market solutions? Follow Grover on Twitter: https://twitter.com/GroverNorquist. It's time to dispel the hoax of "entitlement reform" and no one does it better than President of Social Security Works, Nancy Altman. On the heels of Senate Republicans jamming through a historically unpopular tax bill that enriches their wealthy donors at the American people’s expense, the tax giveaway to the wealthy triggered a $400 billion in automatic cuts to Medicare in the next decade. However, with little help from Republicans Congress ultimately voted afterwards to waive those cuts. Please listen to the important FACTS Nancy shares in this podcast.
It’s a tradition dating back to the Founding Fathers: the American government financing safeguards, be it retirement (Social Security), health benefits (Medicare), or rewards for military service in the form of federal entitlements. In an age of debt and deficits, when will lawmakers address entitlement reform? John Cogan, Hoover’s Leonard and Shirley Ely Senior Fellow and author of a new book on the long history of federal entitlements, assesses where the Trump administration goes from here. In the first of our new longer format, Chris Boyd was joined by his guest co-host, Atty. Susan Huettner, whose specialty involves family law. They discussed both the markets and economic conditions at the end of the third quarter, before discussing tips on what mistakes to avoid when dealing with a divorce. These tips were helpful, though, for anyone as most were just good financial planning awareness priorities. The conversation turned to politics as callers weighed in on concerns over the Fed's policies, public sector pension obligations, and the challenges of being caught in the proposed reforms facing entitlement programs like Medicare. The show concluded with a discussion of whether or not the depection of the attack on the Libyan consulate as "spontaneous" was a deliberate deception by the Obama administration for political gain to maintain the narrative of a strong foreign policy experience and a diminished al-Qaeda.
