While cryptocurrencies were birthed from the idea of decentralization and resisting central banks and the mainstream financial system, they are quickly being used for the opposite as this new stablecoin legislation ensures KYC (Know Your Customer) surveillance. Under an emergency order it would be incredibly easy to force people to use things like Tether as the go-to currency for trade. Every transaction would be tracked and traced and it's likely people would be forced to use a specific government made wallet to use it. While Trump claims he banned CBDCs (Central Bank Digital Currencies), this only applies to the Federal Reserve. The Treasury can still release a digital currency and with this recent legislation, utilizing Tether, it is possible to simply use digital promissory notes on Tether. Meanwhile, systemic risk of bank runs increase dramatically as the markets melt down and people attempt to withdraw from banks in big numbers. Today we had the pleasure of hosting the team from Cornerstone Government Affairs for an engaging discussion on energy policy and the upcoming US Presidential Election with Jack Belcher, Principal, John Sandell, Principal, and Sarah Venuto, Principal and Counsel. Cornerstone is an independent bipartisan consulting firm specializing in federal and state government relations, public affairs, political and grant consulting, and business advisory services. Jack, John and Sarah are seasoned experts in navigating the complexities of Washington DC. Jack has over 30 years of experience in energy and energy policy and previously held roles as Manager of Regulatory Affairs and Policy at Shell and Staff Director for the US House Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources. John is an expert in tax policy and formerly served the members of the US House Committee on Ways and Means. Sarah previously served as Director of the Office of External Affairs at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Senior Advisor and Chief Counsel to Senator Joe Manchin, and Democratic Staff Director for the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. We were thrilled to connect with the Cornerstone team to explore this timely and important topic. Our conversation centered on a report Cornerstone published entitled “A Guide to Forecasting Energy Policy In The Next White House: Trump V. Harris” (linked here). Jack first provides background on Cornerstone's history and growth into the largest independent government relations firm in DC. We touch on the implications of the Chevron Deference case on regulatory agencies, its significance for future energy policy and regulation, and how it will impact Congress and the need for additional technical expertise there. We cover the complexities of Presidential Administration changes and challenges of transitioning political appointments, the future of the Inflation Reduction Act under different administrations, and efforts to streamline permitting and infrastructure development. Jack, John and Sarah offer their insights on how a Trump or Harris administration might approach energy policy and rising energy prices for businesses and consumers. We discuss areas of bipartisan support including nuclear energy, tariffs, alternative fuels, and competition with China, how the next administration might balance state-level initiatives with national policy, the upcoming 2025 Tax Debate led by the Ways and Means Committee, and much more. It was an insightful discussion and we want to thank Jack, John and Sarah for sharing their perspectives and time with us on a busy day in DC. Mike Bradley opened the conversation by highlighting that broader equity markets were down Tuesday driven by JPMorgan Chase's cautious comments. In the bond market, the 10-year U.S. bond yield traded at ~3.65, down 20-30bps in recent weeks. The U.S. 2yr/10yr yield bond spread flipped back to positive after two years of inversion, this type of flip after a lengthy period of backwardation tends to precede recessions. He noted the importance of this week's economic reports with August CPI & PPI and Initial Jobless Claims reporting over the next couple of days. On crude oil, he also shared a chart of the WTI crude oil curve and noted that the curve structure had flattened out through 2035, primarily due to concerns over global/China oil demand after being in steep backwardation over the prior 3mo, 6mo & 12mo periods. He concluded by mentioning that crude oil prices were technically oversold, with traders remaining bearish but waiting for significant changes in global oil demand to unwind net short bets. Jeff Tillery built on Mike's comments and noted the demand concerns and OPEC's spare capacity reducing upside optionality for long-term investors. Brett Rampal highlighted a significant

Get up to speed with the Digital Marketing News and Updates from the week of Mar 20-24, 2023.1. TikTok CEO Makes His Case To US Congress - TikTok's fate in the US market is still unknown. However, TikTok's CEO Shou Zi Chew's appeared before the US House Committee on Energy and Commerce this week, in which Chew had the opportunity to present TikTok's case, and convince senators that TikTok does not pose a national security threat. In his pre-prepared testimony, Chew wrote that “More than 150 million people in the United States use TikTok on a monthly basis, with the average user today being an adult well past college age. Their videos provide a lens through which the rest of the world can experience American culture. Examples include TikTok's role in bringing exposure to American musicians, artists, chefs, and many more. While users in the United States represent 10 percent of our global community, their voice accounts for 25 percent of the total views around the world.”It is interesting to note the average user age, as per Che'w example here, which is likely older than many would expect. The general consensus is that if the US imposes a TikTok ban, other regions will follow. It's not a certainty that a ban will be imposed, but Chew's written testimony doesn't do a lot to provide new assurance. 2. LinkedIn Rolls Out 4 Updates For Business Pages - LinkedIn's latest features for business pages aim to enhance brand visibility, audience engagement, and hiring efficiency. They are: LinkedIn now lets you plan your business page posts up to three months ahead for steady interaction with followers. Available now on desktop, this feature will come to mobile soon. LinkedIn is introducing live, audio-only discussions, eliminating reliance on external broadcasting applications. Listeners can engage in the discussion through emojis and request to speak if they wish to contribute verbally.  For businesses with fewer than 1,000 employees, LinkedIn now offers an automatic job posting feature. Once activated, the platform will automatically share one open role daily as a pre-scheduled post. The posts can be edited after they're shared. LinkedIn Pages can now follow other Pages, making it easier to join chats related to your field with a feed dedicated to content from the businesses you're following. It's interesting to see that LinkedIn is doubling down on the audio segment at a time when Facebook is killing it. I'm not suggesting that the platforms should necessarily copy each other even though that seems to be happening a lot lately (esp Meta copying TikTok) however audio is a hard space to win in and the only one seems to be doing a decent job is Clubhouse. 3. 6 New Features In Reddit Ads - Reddit has announced 6 updates to its Ads Manager to accommodate its growing global advertising business and cater to the diverse needs of its advertisers. These changes are effective immediately and offer specific improvements for self-service clients and international advertisers. Simple Campaign Creation: Enables advertisers to create a campaign with a single ad in just three easy steps: create an ad, set up targeting and budgets, and select payment. This feature is particularly helpful for self-serve advertisers who want to launch ads quickly and seamlessly. Automated Ad Creation: Allows advertisers to build and test multiple sets of ad variations to determine which messaging connects best with their target audience. This feature saves time previously spent creating new ads one-by-one. Multi-Currency Support: Advertisers from more than 40 countries can choose from various international currencies, including the Australian Dollar (AUD), Canadian Dollar (CAD), Euro (EUR), British Pound (GBP), and New Zealand Dollar (NZD). Improved Community Search: Lets advertisers find targetable communities based on topic relevance, ensuring better reach to relevant audiences. Reporting Retention: Now supports a 12-month look-back, enabling advertisers to analyze their ads' activity over time. Bulk Edit Improvements: Allow advertisers to change bids, budgets, and third-party reporting trackers for ads across multiple campaigns and ad groups simultaneously. 4. Instagram Adds Reminder Ads and Promoted Results in Search - Just two weeks back in episode#151 I covered “TikTok Enters The Search Ads Market Even Though It Is Inching Towards A US Ban”. In that show, I said that it will be soon that Instagram will copy this feature. And now my predictions came true. Maybe I should quit my day job and become a forecaster. Haha. j/k.Instagram's launching two new ad options, with Reminder Ads, that enable users to opt into alerts ahead of an event, and ads in search results, helping to better connect with users in a discovery mindset. After a user opts-in via the ad CTA, they'll then receive three subsequent notifications of that event, with the first coming a day before, then another 15 minutes ahead of the start time, with a final alert as it begins. Which will ensure that you don't miss out – and while three reminders may seem a little much, if you're really keen (or forgetful), it could be of benefit. Reminders can be set up to three months ahead of time, and once you've added a reminder to a post, you can create additional posts with reminders for the same event, without adding new event details. The event time will also be displayed in local time equivalent. The search ads will help to connect users based on contextual keyword. “Ads will show up in the feed that people can scroll when they tap into a post from search results. We plan to launch this placement globally in the coming months.”You can learn more about Reminder Ads here, while Search Ads are being rolled out with selected accounts from this week.5. Microsoft Introduces Category-Based Targeting For Retailers - Search advertising is evolving, especially in retail media. Keyword targeting has been ubiquitous in search advertising for a long time, as it is an effective way for advertisers to reach shoppers who search via keywords. But traditional keyword targeting has constraints within the retail media space. It may limit campaign reach and performance for advertisers and the advertising revenue generated through a retailer's retail media programme. Microsoft's retail media platform, PromoteIQ, has launched an innovative solution to address these constraints. To address advertisers' desire to maximize their reach to relevant shoppers on a retailer's website and app, Microsoft's retail media platform, PromoteIQ has launched a new solution that targets retail shoppers based on the categories they browse, and leverages keywords as a booster for campaign bids. This new solution will give advertisers the ability to unlock the benefit of insights into retail shoppers' behaviours, achieving stronger performance for both advertisers and retailers. With Microsoft PromoteIQ, advertisers can boost bids with keywords to show ads to those shoppers who are searching for specific products on a retailer's website and app, for a higher chance of converting purchase intent to a sale.Unlike traditional keyword targeting—which requires advertisers to research and build an exhaustive list of keywords per campaign—when managing retail media campaigns that leverage category behaviours with the Microsoft PromoteIQ platform, advertisers only need to test and retain a few high-performing keywords. For retailers, the efficiency in campaign management translates into more demand.Microsoft said that in their tests, "campaigns that boost bids by keyword whilst targeting by category exhibit 320% higher click-through-rate (CTR) than the campaigns without boosting bids by keyword."6. Countdown to GA4 : Google Ads Can See A Significant Impact If Not Using GA4 - As the sun begins to set on Google Analytics Universal Analytics (UA), businesses should be gearing up for the transition to Google Analytics 4 (GA4). Google Ads Liaison, Ginny Marvin reminded advertisers that some ""the GA4 deadline is fast approaching. Universal Analytics properties will stop processing new data on July 1. That means new data will stop flowing from UA properties into Google Ads which could significantly impact campaign performance."For example, advertisers who are currently using Performance Max (PMAX) campaigns and pulling in conversions from UA, may see a drastic decrease in campaign spend, higher ROAS/CPA is set (as system won't detect any conversions). This is bad for the advertiser as well as Google since Google makes also money when your ads get served/clicked. If you are unsure whether you need to migrate or have already migrated then you can talk to us. 7. 3 New Features In Google Discovery Ads - According to the Google's announcement, the 3 new features in Discovery Ads will help a merchant stand out on most engaging ad surfaces: Rollout of Product Feeds to all Discovery Advertisers that show consumers items based on their interests and intent. Specifically, retailers can use lifestyle images and short text with their Google Merchant Center catalog to deliver more relevant ads. Google claims that by adding product feeds to Discovery ads with sales or lead gen goals, advertisers can achieve 45% more conversions at a similar CPA on average. What's more, you can pair them with a Video action campaigns to drive deeper consideration and engagement with consumers who are exploring content on YouTube. Product-level reporting (launching later this month) will allow advertisers to track how their Google Merchant Center catalog items are performing in product feeds against metrics like impressions or clicks. For example, a retailer who's promoting a wide range of products can now see which types of products are generating more interest and take business-related actions. Starting in Q2, Discovery advertisers can get a more accurate view of their campaign performance within the Google ecosystem through data-driven attribution (DDA). DDA gives credit for conversions based on how people engage with your ads, and uses your account data to determine which campaigns have the greatest impact on your business goals. You can then pair those insights with automated bidding strategies like Max Conversions to get even more conversions. Advertisers who switch to data-driven attribution from another attribution model typically see a 6% average increase in conversions. To accurately assess the effectiveness of campaigns, Google introduced Conversion Lift experiments last year. This is one of their most recent measurement solutions that enable advertisers to determine incremental conversions based on either users or geography. Now Google is rolling out conversion lift experiment. This is  for advertisers who are running both Discovery ads and Video action campaigns, and wants to measure their ads impact based on Geography. You do have to reach out to your Google account representative to learn how you can participate. In my opinion, unless you have a large budget it's best to wait. 8. Google Ads Tests Blue Badges For Verified Advertisers In Search - Looks like “blue check mark” is the flavor of the season. After Meta rolled out a blue checkmark program, Google is testing showing blue badge icons and labels on some search ads for advertisers who are verified by Google Ads. The blue label is a blue circle with ridges and check mark within it.  This is from the ongoing Google advertiser verification program and some users are seeing Google little blue check marks for advertisers who are verified.9. Google Clarifies Its 15MB Googlebot Limit - Google has updated the Googlebot help document on crawling to clarify that the 15MB fetch size limit applies to each fetch of the individual subresources referenced in the HTML as well, such as JavaScript and CSS files. Google initially added information about this 15MB limit several months ago, which caused a lot of concern in the SEO industry, The help document now reads:“Googlebot can crawl the first 15MB of an HTML file or supported text-based file. Each resource referenced in the HTML such as CSS and JavaScript is fetched separately, and each fetch is bound by the same file size limit. After the first 15MB of the file, Googlebot stops crawling and only considers the first 15MB of the file for indexing. The file size limit is applied on the uncompressed data. Other Google crawlers, for example Googlebot Video and Googlebot Image, may have different limits.”Furthermore, Gary Ilyes posted on LinkedIn that, "..The 15MB resource fetch threshold applies on the JavaScript resources, too, so if your JavaScript files are larger than that, your site might have a bad time in Google Search. See googlebot.com for information about the fetch features and limitations. Yes, there are JavaScript resources out there that are larger than 15MB. No, it's not a good idea to have JavaScript files that are that large."Also note that the 15mb limit is just about fetching,  it's totally separate from the indexing side.If the talk about css, java script, fetching, and indexing is making you dizzy then it's a sign that you need assistance from a reputable agency/expert.10. Non-Supported Rel Link Attributes Do Nothing In Google Search - The Rel Link attribute has been covered in past episodes (Ep 141, 91). Given the amount of confusion and bad advice floating around the web, Google's John Muller clarified that only the supported Rel Link Attributes (nofollow and me) works. The rest has no impact on your Google search index or ranking. He went on to say that you can even use made like . However, the Google bot will just ignore it. #SEOmythBusted11. Google: Keyword Stuffing Alone Does Not Make A Page Unhelpful - Google's John Mueller said that keyword stuffing alone would not make a page be deemed unhelpful. John added that Google is good at ignoring tactics like keyword stuffing, so that alone likely won't be the reason for ranking issues in Google Search. According to him, keyword stuffing is easy for search engines to ignore, it was one of the first things that people did to manipulate the results back in the 90's :-).The discussion on Keyword stuffing came up after a poster inquired if it is possible that they got hit by the helpful content update because they have too much content on one page. I looked at the page the posted shared and I'm not surprised that they got hit by the latest helpful content update because the page seems to have thin content.P.S: In 2018, John Mueller said something similar, saying that keyword stuffing alone wouldn't result in a penalty and then last year saying keyword stuffed URLs doesn't lead to a penalty either.12. Google: This Is How We Process Your Robot.txt - Google's John Mueller posted a clarification on how and when Google processes the removal requests, or exclusion requests, you make in your robots.txt. The action is not taken when Google discovers the change in your robots.txt, but rather after first the robots.txt is processed and then the specific URLs that are impacted are individually reprocessed by Google Search. Both have to happen. First, Google needs to pick up on your changes in your robots.tx and then Google needs to reprocess the individual URLs, on a URL-by-URL basis, for any changes in Google Search to happen. This can be fast or not, depending on how fast the specific URLs are reprocessed by Google. In fact, many search engine ranking algorithms work this way, which is why when an update rolls out, sometimes it takes about two weeks to fully rollout because that is how long most important URLs on the internet take for Google to reprocess them.

The Brooklyn Nets are dealing with significant issues with Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant, should the Utah Jazz make a call and try to trade for KD? The State of Florida has a new law where cops can now ticket cars and drivers who play their music too loud. Jake is not happy about it and says the law is foolish, and we should not be ticketing drivers for loud music. The cops say it's a safety issue, as loud music makes it difficult to hear sirens and distracts drivers. Who is right? Hey,In recent months, lots of high profile personalities have announced plans to get paid in crypto. The Mayors of New York and Miami joined athletes like Aaron Rodgers and Odell Beckham; and artists like 50 Cent and Mel B to get partially or fully paid in crypto. Coinbase recently partnered with UnitedMasters to let musicians receive their royalties in crypto. But is this just a gimmick for the rich? What are regular Joe and Jane doing? I’m conducting a survey to understand attitudes towards getting paid in crypto. It took me less than 1 minute to it fill out. Please let your voice be heard here! It’s anonymous. I’ll share the results with you. Besides getting paid in crypto, one could also receive crypto rewards for everyday purchases. I’ve been using the Fold card to earn bitcoin rewards for a couple months. I’ll share some of my thoughts below….and of course I’ll touch on some of the recent news developments in crypto: such as Chainlink, metaverse, Novi and regulations. Let’s go!Fold review: Bitcoin rewards card 💳Why Fold? When we got married, we paid for our honeymoon and flights to Hawaii with credit card loyalty points. We had an amazing time! But it was even sweeter knowing that we did not use cash for our luxury getaway. The Fold card presents the same allure. The opportunity to build a bitcoin stash without changing behavior was too good to pass up. How did it go?Fold started out enabling users to earn rewards by buying gift cards. Next, they graduated to offering a debit card with bitcoin buy back on all purchases.Phase 1: Gift cardsI earned 1% bitcoin rewards when I bought Amazon gift cards using Fold. I started buying $100 gift cards and pre-loading my Amazon account. I would spend cash from the gift card on my protein powder or a gift. I’m not a huge shopper but it felt pretty easy to score some free bitcoin. Bitcoin rewards: $100 Amazon gift card x 1% = $1 rewards = 0.00002 BTC rewards (assuming 1BTC = $50,000, 1% rewards for using a credit card)Yeah, the rewards are NOT huge. But I suppose they could add up if you shop a lot. Fold also has gift cards with varying bitcoin rewards from a variety of retailers like Chipotle, Banana Republic and Southwest Airlines. But you have to read the fine print - rewards might be capped at 1% if you are purchasing the gift card with a debit/credit card. Either way, might as well get free from bitcoin while you get your holiday shopping done. Additionally, Fold has an app where you can spin the wheel and potentially turbocharge your rewards or when 1 whole bitcoin! I haven’t won a bitcoin yet but I’ll continue spinning lol. Phase 2: Debit cardEarlier this year, Fold launched a debit card. I got the basic one. I figured I could earn more bitcoin from everyday transactions like going to a local coffee shop or my gym membership. Unfortunately, the card has been a disappointment. Yes, I routinely use it at my local coffee shop and my barber but it’s NOT accepted everywhere. Much to my annoyance, I have been unable to directly pay my gym membership, powerlifting coach or CashApp friends with my Fold card. I have had to develop workaround solutions to pay my coach like PayPal but PayPal charges a ~3% fee on the Fold card which is greater than the bitcoin rewards cash back. I imagine these are growing pains and will eventually be fixed. Right now, it’s incredibly annoying to have a transaction declined or be forced to pay higher fees. VerdictI still use my Fold card for a couple transactions every month. So far, I’ve racked up over $40 worth of bitcoin rewards. Nothing to get to terribly excited about. That said, I have seen folks on Twitter who have won 1 bitcoin from spinning the wheel in the Fold app. I’ve also seen people stack serious sats by putting most of their regular expenses like rent, groceries and airline tickets on their Fold card. To be honest, I could ratchet it up a notch or three. Exhibit A: My biggest recommendation to Fold is to address the pain points around payment acceptance and fees ex PayPal. What’s been your experience?NEWS1. Crypto goes to Congress👩‍⚖️CEOs of 6 crypto companies testified in front of the US House Committee on Financial Services and received encouragement from both Democrats and Republican representatives. The crypto executives provided some context on the potential and opportunities of cryptocurrencies and blockchain solutions to lower costs and drive greater inclusion. They also pleaded for more well thought out regulation to support the industry’s growth. This tone marked a departure from several years ago. Hopefully, there will be more in the future. I would like bipartisan support for crypto. 2. ChainLink: Attracting top talent 📈ChainLink connects real world data to on-chain smart contracts. So for example, a farmer in Kansas could get crop insurance with payouts triggered by weather events ex tornado. All of this could be executed with code NOT people enabled by ChainLinkThe 4-year old company has secured partnerships with a number of major players include AWS, Google, Oracle etc. Now, ChainLink Labs is attracting more big name talent: (1) Eric Schmidt, former CEO of Google, joined ChainLink as a strategic advisor (2) Mike Derezin, former VP of LinkedIn, joined ChainLink as COO. I think ChainLink is well positioned to help bring the promise of smart contracts alive for everyday use cases. It’s definitely on my radar. 3. WhatsApp testing stablecoin payments in the US 💬⚡️This is big. WhatsApp has over 2 billion monthly active users worldwide. Most of my family - scattered across Africa, Europe and North America - are daily users of WhatsApp. They may not understand crypto or stablecoins but they will eagerly use WhatsApp Pay. And more. I can see payments to merchants, lending, and so on. The question is, can Novi deliver on this promise? Last week, David Marcus, the head of Novi, announced he was leaving. Novi has suffered a string of high profile departures. From the outside looking in, it feels like a shadow of it’s former self.4. Bill Gates’ bullish on metaverse 🚀“People overestimate what can be done in one year, and underestimate what can be done in ten“. That said, I think Bill Gates is wrong here. But I also don’t know if he literally meant that MOST office meetings will switch over to the metaverse. I wonder if he was trying to make a clear statement: the metaverse is here to stay and is coming for Main Street USA. Now that’s a message I could get behind. 5. Messari 2022 crypto theses🤯Ryan Selkis, the founder of Messari - a leading crypto research firm - has dropped 165-page tome on crypto developments for 2022 for FREE. It covers everything from bitcoin to NFT, metaverse to solana and MORE!If you are new to crypto or want to learn more then I highly recommend you download it. I’m gradually consuming the content. Ryan is able to borrow thoughts from across cryptosphere. It’s incredible that he shares it for free. Let me know what you agree or disagree with(Bugs’s Bunny accent) That’s all folks! America's Troubled Postal Service: Two Perspectives On How To Fix It

Almost everybody these days has a horror story about the US Postal Service. The medication that was late arriving, or which never arrived at all. The New Yorker magazines that arrive three at a time, months after their publication dates. The Christmas card, the Mother's Day card, the birthday card that arrives weeks or months after being dropped in the mail. Once the most popular institution in American society, the postal service is no longer that reliable bastion of American dependability. The mythical motto of the USPS is: “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.” But for most of us, the rounds of the post office are left incomplete with maddening regularity. Congress has taken note, ever since former President Donald Trump appointed a mega-donor and ally to the position of Postmaster General.Louis DeJoy has been a controversial figure for more than a year.In the run-up to the 2020 presidential election, there were howls of protest when DeJoy ordered the selective removal of high-speed mail-sorting equipment and mail drop boxes from communities across the country. Many Democrats feared those actions were part of a Trump strategy to impede mail-in voting. Mr. DeJoy countered that they were efforts to reduce Postal Service costs and improve efficiency. He has had to defend his actions repeatedly at Congressional hearings. His 10-year reform plan for the Service has met with stiff opposition. Last Friday, the full slate of governors on the Postal Board met for the first time in a decade, a meeting that included for the first time three recent appointees to the board by President Biden. To help us understand what's ailing the USPS and what's being done to fix it, we're joined today by Congressman Kweisi Mfume, who represents Maryland's 7th District. Rep. Mfume sits on the US House Committee on Oversight and Reform, which has held numerous hearings on the Postal Service. Congressman Mfume joins us on Zoom… Then, we talk with journalist Eric Katz, who has been covering the problems at the Postal Service extensively for years as senior correspondent for Government Executive, an independent news journal reporting on the federal government. Eric Katz joins us now on our digital line from Washington, DC. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

It's hard for me to imagine a world where everyone believes the earth is basically shaped like a snow globe. That water is trapped above a dome, and it rains when windows open in the sky to let water in. That the lights in the sky rotate like a wheel. That the earth is flat and has corners. These ideas seem absurd to us modern humans thanks in part to civilizations like the Babylonians, Egyptians, Greeks, and Chinese who developed the early ideas that led to Astronomy.New ideas are continually changing the way we understand our role on this planet and our place in the universe. Take for instance the speed of light. Light travels at about 186,000 mi/s. That means we can measure how far light will travel in a minute, a month, or a year. It also means that if a star is 55 million light years away, it has taken 55 million years for the light from that star to reach us. Which also means anyone from that solar system would be seeing the light from our sun just how it appeared 55 million years ago. Think about that for a minute.I bring up that specific number because that's the distance to the first black hole ever imaged. My friend Dr Govind Menon is an expert in Black Hole Astrophysics. He is the Director of the School of Science and Technology, at TROY University, and he chairs the department of chemistry and physics . In this interview We talk about his path into math and physics. He helps me work through big concepts about black holes and galaxies. We talk about how our solar system was formed, and why scientists think our sun is a second generation star. We talk about some of the exciting plans the university has for plastics research. We wrap up with some very helpful suggestions for parents who are interested STEM resources for their own kids.I owe much of my own interest in science and space to a teacher who was much like Govind. He was the coolest teacher I ever had, who made learning science fun and interesting. This podcast is dedicated to the memory of John Eliason, Jr., or Mr. “E” who died in 2004. He was an inspiration to me, and I'm thankful I had the opportunity to learn from him.I hope you learn something from this interview, and I hope you enjoy my conversation with Dr. Govind Menon.Find more about Dr. Govind Menon http://spectrum.troy.edu/gmenon/Troy University receives $3.2 million grant for Center for Materials and Manufacturing Sciences Testimony before US House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology Other Helpful Links: click hereVisit me at adamdrinkwater.com • Instagram • Twitter • PatreonSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/adamdrinkwater)

We’re kicking off a new podcast series on Leadership: what does it mean to be a leader for your audience, your clients, your community, and yourself. You’re going to love the stories and strategies that my guest, Nicole Tisdale, shares. Her story of literally running down a Congressman to ask him for a job is incredible - and shows the power of an “elevator pitch” (or, in this case, the Capitol Hill subway pitch). I had to ask Nicole where she got the confidence to go after what she wants - and you’ll hear what she answers. Nicole first contacted me earlier this year after listening to episode 98 with Dr. Nicole Rochester and her work that she’s doing to improve the doctor-patient-caregiver relationship. Nicole said she wanted to shout through the podcast during that episode to tell Dr. Nicole what she could do to get policies enacted, something most of us never think about doing. We also talk about women in politics, how Nicole approaches her speaking engagements, and why she decided to write a book. Nicole has a fascinating and impressive background: she worked on Capitol Hill for 10 years as a high-ranking staffer, with a focus on issues related to national security.  Nicole recently started her own company to help organizations and individuals learn how to advocate for themselves, whether it’s in Congress, your state legislature, or local city council. About My Guest: Nicole Tisdale, principal of Advocacy Blueprints, works with individuals and organizations who are eager to accelerate policy issues, increase advocacy efforts, and create changes in their organizations and communities. Nicole’s passion is making government accessible to all. During her ten-year tenure on the US House Committee on Homeland Security, Nicole developed a strong proficiency in handling congressional investigations of the Executive Branch and the private sector by mastering congressional process and procedure.  Serving as the former Director of Intelligence and Counterterrorism and the Director of Outreach and Coalitions for members and staff, she helped to advance the Committee’s outreach efforts by creating strategic partnerships between the private sector and the Committee in an effort to harness support for legislation and oversight for national security efforts. Her book, “Right To Petition: A Practical Guide to Creating Change in Government with Political Advocacy Tools and Tips,” is already a political reference bestseller and has received numerous excellent reviews, as the first of its kind.  Nicole received both her Juris Doctorate (’09) and Bachelors of Art (’06) from the University of Mississippi.    About Us: The Speaking Your Brand podcast is hosted by Carol Cox.
