Your Sinclair was one of the "Big 3" Spectrum magazines, alongside CRASH and Sinclair User. It was considered to be more humourous and zany than its contemporaries. Its final issue was in September 1993, which was an incredible run, considering the 16-bit computers had taken foothold years prior. In 1991, they published their top 100 games list, which was compiled by staff writer Stuart Campbell. It was a comprehensive list of games featuring many classics (and some curveballs). Join Drisky and Kingy as they go through the games on this list. With thanks to Gary Arnott for recreating that final cover for our own poster for this episode. In this episode, we take a detour from our normal format and talk about our thoughts on Retro gaming - what does that term even really mean? What does it mean to us? Why are we talking about the ZX Spectrum, the NES, Master System, Megadrive and the Amiga all these years after they were released? Why do we have such fond memories of these old games? What is it about Nostalgia that has us scouring the eBay for original copies of Way of the Exploding Fist and JetPac?What does Retro gaming mean to you? Let us know.During the episode, we mention “Filling in the gaps: creative imagination and nostalgia in ZX Spectrum gaming” by Will Brooker. My guest today is Bennett Foddy, the creator of QWOP, GIRP and Multibowl and a professor at the NYU Game Center. We talk about Bennett's extraordinary journey to game design via philosophy, ring tone advertisements and a brief stint as the bassist for the band Cut Copy. We talk about a whole heap of different games, and get into why Australia is a country of pirates, why philosophers don't play videogames, why he values breadth over depth and why the remix should be a new form of game design. Episode 13 - Andy Payne - Frictionless Trade and Videogames In this episode I talk to UK videogames mainstay and sage, Andy Payne about the mistakes made in his industry, and the effects that are going to be made on it by Brexit. Andy is by nature, open, honest, engaging and provoking. We cover a lot of ground going all the way back to the dawn of computer game time. Get to know Andy no matter what your industry or pastime, you’ll be enriched by the experience or your money back. This is the final episode of Series 1 of The Podcast About Mistakes. But join me in 2019 for Series 2 packed with even more brilliant guests. Take care of yourself, Tim bread@zuzusbakery.co.uk if you’d like to comment. I am very excited about this mix. It comes from Josh Furey, the man the excellent indie label Nocturne Records. The mix consists of ambient and slower vintage 8-bit video game music. It starts off with a cut from Disasterpeace from the album FEZ. I had just recently bought the album and was thinking about doing an 8-bit type of mix myself when Josh sent me his Cartridge mix. Wow, am I glad I didn't bother with my mix because Josh's blend of 8-bit music and video game sounds and tunes is perfect. Thanks to Josh for his work on this fantastic mix. Check out is excellent latest album PETALS.
