On the 100th episode of Taste Buds with Deb, host Debra Eckerling speaks with Sean Kanan, author, actor, Emmy-award winning producer, and founder of Bad Boy Hot Sauce.    Kanan, who has portrayed Deacon Sharpe on CBS's “The Bold and the Beautiful” since 2000, got his Hollywood break playing bad-boy Mike Barnes in “Karate Kid III.” He reprised this role on the fifth and sixth seasons of “Cobra Kai” on Netflix.    “Martial arts has always been an important part of my life since I was probably about 14, 15 years old,” Kanan says. “The tenets of martial arts are something that I try to embody every day: courage, honesty, humility. … I look at my life as being very holistic and everything that I do, even though  it may seem like they're very different pursuits, they're all interconnected.”   His latest books are the series: “Way of the Cobra,” “Welcome to the Kumite” and “Way of the Cobra Couples,” co-written by his wife, Michele. His new food venture, Bad Boy Hot Sauce - flavors are Cobra Venom, Mango Madness and Red Pepper Punch - are also on-brand.   “Bad boy Mike Barnes, bad boy karate, Bad Boy Hot Sauce,” he said. “It seemed like there was a good synergy there, and it's been really fun.”   Kanan talks about his food philosophies and his favorite Jewish foods, Bad Boy Hot Sauce, martial arts, and living a life of humility and gratitude. Tom Brady was on The Herd with Colin Cowherd recently and said teams should also be penalized offensively for quarterbacks, not giving themselves up early enough. That started my wheel rolling about a recent point fighting tournament I won in which I was penalized for almost knocking my opponent out. A fighter like me can understand that sometimes, in the heat of the moment, we only do what we're trained to do. Hear my thoughts on this matter in hopes that it helps some of you understand what it is like to be deep into a game like that. In this episode of Bring the Pain, I decided to relax and talk about all of the upcoming things we have coming in August. Starting off the month with WWE's Summerslam, I was able to live a few of life's surefire moments at once. From driving down with my daughter to meeting up with our friends, the entire experience was amazing. This weekend, I'll be at the Fantasy Football Expo in Canton, OH, with my buddy Dan. I talked about my past experience at the expo while getting ready to see Dan's eyes light up since this will be his first time visiting the Football Hall of Fame. After that, I talked about the Battle for the Crown Martial Arts tournament coming up next weekend. Our team had such a blast last year, and we can't wait to do it again. In the end, I talked about Labor Day weekend and all of the fantasy football content that we will be providing at Dr. Roto. Fighting out of Erie, PA, with my team from TKO-ERIE, we all came prepared after an amazing week at class. I was dialed in, but the whole team looked great from all of our fights to even the forms. Sean Kanan is an incredibly talented actor who is most well known for his role as Deacon Sharpe on soap operas the Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless, AJ Quatermane on General Hospital and of course Tournament Terror and Karate's Bad Boy…Mike Barnes in the Karate Kid 3 and NOW Cobra Kai! He has appeared in films with Bruce Willis, and created and starred in his Emmy winning show “Studio City” which streams on Amazon Prime and so much more. He is also a life coach and author producing two books (Way of the Cobra & Way of the Cobra: Welcome to the Kumite)! Born in Cleveland and raised in New Castle, Pennsylvania, Sean Kanan began his acting career while he was a political science major at Boston University. After landing a role in the locally-filmed Spenser: For Hire, he transferred to UCLA to devote more time to acting. Following graduation, he honed his skills at local comedy clubs and appeared in television programs such as The Nanny, Who's the Boss, MTV's Dead at 21, and Oliver Stone's Wild Palms miniseries, among others.Sean made his feature film debut as Mike Barnes in Karate Kid III after being hand-picked by director John Avildsen (Rocky) during an open call of over 2,000 actors. He had studied karate and kickboxing while growing up and was able to perform his own stunts. Most recently, he reprised the role on the hit Netflix show: Cobra Kai.In this episode, we talk about Sean's coaching, mindset, and his books- The Way of the Cobra and Welcome to the Kumite.
