Time Machine, Partners in Time, Paper Mario, Sticker Stars, Mario RPG. Andere, oudere retro games: Power Stone, Quake (1), Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire, Getsu Fuma Den, Kaiser Knuckle (met Justin Long zijn torture challenges).

Nicky and Eric play our first Zelda game in this week's episode of Press any Button! The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is a 1993 action-adventure game developed and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy. It is the first installment in The Legend of Zelda series for a handheld game console. the protagonist, Link, begins the game stranded on Koholint Island, a place guarded by a whale-like deity called the Wind Fish. You fight monsters and solve puzzles while searching for eight musical instruments that will awaken the sleeping Wind Fish and allow him to escape from the island. Press Any Button hosts Nicky (a new gamer) and Eric (a lifetime gamer) are a married couple who both love video games. For every video game they will discuss its past (history of the game, developers story, and fun facts), present (game play, game review and strategy), and future (will there be a sequel?? A movie?) BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE… Every game also comes with a challenge presented by the host that chose the game. If the challenge is not completed then whoever failed has to do a video game rap! So if you want to learn more about video games, hear some nerdy video game raps, or just have a good time this is the podcast for you. We try to cover all types of video games including: Retro and New video games Playstation, Nintendo, Xbox, Sega, and PC games Any and all genres including RPG, Simulation, Beat em up, platforming, mystery, first person shooter, sandbox, puzzle, action adventure, etc. Follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/pressanybutton_podcast/ Credits: Nicky Smith Eric Luedtke Music by Mark Spurlock References: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Legend_of_Zelda:_Link%27s_Awakening#Notes https://zelda.fandom.com/wiki/The_Legend_of_Zelda:_Link%27s_Awakening

Link's Awakening was the first portable Zelda game. Trevor and Johnny review the DX version released later for the Gameboy Color. This episode includes a new Bliss Quiz, an embarrassing story, and was too big to fit into a pocket...much like Trevor and Johnny.

A new year means new adventures in the backlog. This week on the NXpress Nintendo Podcast, Cameron Daxon, Marc Kaliroff, and Campbell Gill return from a brief podcasting hiatus to revisit their favorite New Year's topic: exploring their backlogs. The gang had plenty of time to delve into their ever-present backlogs over the break, and now they're ready to share their impressions and hot takes. This simple recap soon grows into a bigger discussion altogether: was the original Portal actually any good? Is Skyward Sword a better Zelda than Link's Awakening? What does the ending of Limbo actually mean? All this and so much more in this surprisingly in-depth tour-de-force discussion! As the main event draws to a close, the indie spotlight begins. While Cameron shares a few disappointed thoughts about Lone Ruin, a Hades-esque roguelike that failed to meet expectations, Campbell has much more enthusiasm for Vengeful Guardian: Moonrider, a nonsensically named 2D action game giving us what we all really need: a robot ninja adventure. Inspired by Shinobi, Strider, and Mega Man X, Vengeful Guardian: Moonrider is an intensely demanding adventure that tempers its retro difficulty with some incredibly creative items, quality-of-life improvements, and some brilliantly creative level designs. Don't forget: If you want to suggest a discussion topic, share your thoughts on a recent episode, or simply chat with the NXpress crew, feel free to email us at videogameseditor@goombastomp.com! Listen to Noel's thoughts on Inglourious Basterds and Tremors remastered. Does the quality stand up to Noel's strict standards? Jared and Josh reunite after some time off for another episode! This time, we discuss the controversial remake of Link's Awakening. Released in 1993, has too much time passed to enjoy this old Game Boy original? The 2019 version may be pretty, but it is still the original at its core. Or has Nintendo updated enough and softened its edges enough to make it a timeless classic? Perhaps the most zany Zelda game, and Jared's 3rd so far--listen and see if it makes it into the Hall of Games! Plus: Jared is back in Connecticut, Josh is rehearsing Shakespeare, and we FINALLY chat Horizon Forbidden West! Another week, another show -- welcome to Friendly Fire Show 206 with Stevivor staffers Ben Salter and Steve Wright! Here's what was discussed: Welcome (0:00) Show and tell – Ben's splurging arrived, and he's gone retro As Dusk Falls (10:00) We've both played it, and it's yet another great subscription game. Read Ben's review here! Let's talk remakes, remasters and value. There's a sliding scale. (25:00) The Last of Us Part 1 is $125 and seems to be a visual remake. It's flaming the console wars, but let's look at the scale of remasters/remakes. Mass Effect LE included 3 games + DLC, with some minor gameplay updates/balancing and a visual upgrade for $100. Pretty strong bar. (Similar last-gen were Halo: MCC, Uncharted: Nathan Drake Collection and Crash Trilogy). This is what we now use the term remaster for, generally. Gears of War Ultimate really blurred the line last-gen between remaster/remake. On the other side, we have full visual and gameplay remakes.FF7, entirely reimagined and modernised but became 3 games. Zelda: Link's Awakening. A full remake, but still plays a lot like the GameBoy game. Resident Evil 2 in the middle. Totally remade as a modern game with some changes, but still close to it. Fair to say this style of remake is our favourite and most worthwhile? Considering all that, what do we make of the third version of The Last of Us in 9 years, not really touching gameplay, and actually increasing the price from $100 to $125? Related topic: What do we think of outsourcing remakes? Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic has been delayed We're always keen for your feedback, so feel free to take to the comments area or social media #friendlyfireshow hashtag to let us know what you think of the show. After it got the Switch treatment, the boys gab about the classic Link's Awakening. Adam contrasts it with Ocean's 11 and Michael compares it to Die Hard, but you'll have to listen! to find out how. Don't know about you, but I'm excited! I just threw a pot against the wall! Oh no! My favorite urn! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Jared and Anne Ladyem (anneladyem.com) have more news to talk about this week as apparently January was video game company acquisition month and Sony is attempting to acquire Bungie. After that, Jared talks about this first time through Link's Awakening and how the latest Pokémon game is a stark departure from the traditional formula, but it's doing some real neat things.
This week Dan and Dudley talk about what they have been playing on their 2 weeks off as well as listing their favorite games of 2020. Dan touches on Cyberpunk 2077, Dudley got a Oculus Quest 2 with Population: One and Vader Immortal, as well as Zelda: Link's Awakening. Dan explored the indie favorites There is No Game: Wrong Dimension and Caves of Qud. He also watched his girlfriend take out some aggression in Teardown.
Following the likes of Cadence of Hyrule and Fire Emblem, Nintendo's streak of incredible Switch games continues with a remake of a Game Boy classic. Guides Editor Matthew Reynolds (twitter.com/Crazyreyn) and features editor Christian Donlan join news editor Tom Phillips (twitter.com/TomPhillipsEG) who explains how a special Zelda game has been preserved for a new generation of players, all while adding in some welcome quality of life touches and new ideas along the way, such as the Mario Maker-esque dungeon building mode. We also touch on some (fun!) development facts of the 1993 original and ask which other Zelda games deserve the remake treatment. Our final podcast of E3 2019 sees guides editor Matthew Reynolds (twitter.com/Crazyreyn) join our away team to discuss what it was like being on the ground at this year's show - from our first timers, reporter Emma Kent (twitter.com/GoneEFK) and staff writer Chris Tapsell (twitter.com/ChrisTapsell), to veterans Johnny Chiodini (twitter.com/Johnneh) and news editor Tom Phillips (twitter.com/TomPhillipsEG). As well as contending with jetlag and a subdued showfloor, the team go through the games they saw behind closed doors that stood out the most - including Cyberpunk 2077, Control, Zelda: Link's Awakening, the Final Fantasy 7 remake, John Wick Hex, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Pokémon Sword and Shield.
