Pope John Paul II tells us that “evangelization is the cornerstone of all pastoral action, the demands of which are primary, preeminent and preferential.” Yet, let's be real—how often do we actually see this lived out in our parishes? Evangelization tends to take a back seat, overshadowed by other priorities, rarely making it into budgets or staffing plans. But here's the truth: holiness and orthodoxy aren't enough on their own to renew a parish. This week, I sit down with Fr. James Mallon, the author of Divine Renovation, to talk about how we can create parishes that inspire a commitment to Christ and cultivate a dynamic, engaged faith community. We dive into what it takes to make evangelization the heart of parish life, break through cultural barriers, and build leadership teams that lead with purpose. THIS PODCAST WAS RECORDED SEVERAL WEEKS AGO BEFORE TEAMS BEGAN SOCIAL DISTANCING AND REMOTE WORK Rob McDowell and Father James Mallon come together with Dan O’Rourke to dig into sacramental theology. The team works through some of the mistakes that we’ve made in the way we’ve handled sacraments in the history of the Church. Many show up for sacraments knowing full well that they don’t believe what they do or what they say. In these moments, there is no encounter. Are we doing what we’re supposed to be doing or what we think we’re supposed to be doing? Why have we focused on catechesis over evangelization in the Church? Put your books away and tune in because this week it's all about the written word. This week on the podcast, Dan O'Rourke, Father James Mallon and Ron Huntley pick up The Good Book... and then a few others. The team talks about how we can use books to change the way people think and act, how they impact leadership, and why we write books through the ministry. They touch on the various ways that people learn, including the written word, as a way different kinds of learners can come to know Jesus. They also speak into some tactical ways that they've used books to impact parishes. https://divinerenovation.net/inspire#books
