There is a discipleship opportunity right now that pastors and preachers must take advantage of. Pastor Daniel Im and Steve Carter discuss how we must understand the audience is different in our congregations than from 10, 20, 40 years ago. They're asking different kinds of questions. They're more cynical in some ways and wildly curious in others. When our messages can invite people into the deeper streams, challenge them in the right ways, and truly wrestle with the questions they're wondering about, we have a chance, a grand opportunity to disciple more and more people than ever before. Daniel has been on the podcast before talking about his book “No Silver Bullets” and today the discussion is around his new work, “The Discipleship Opportunity”. Daniel explains that we have to focus on those in our churches that are interested in discipleship and stop spending so much time on trying to connect to those who are not. We should train our interested disciples to become disciple-makers and see those opportunities realized. The pandemic wreaked havoc on our world like nothing else in our lifetime. The fallout continues with polarization, division, depression, isolation, distraction, and the disappearance of many people from inside the walls of the Church. But what if the events of the past few years were not a problem but an opportunity? What if God was using this time in our history to awaken people to His Kingdom and awaken His people to truly be a people of calm in chaos, to be salt and light in this dark world, and to be His ambassadors of hope and justice? What if God was stirring you and me to ask ourselves if we truly follow Jesus—or just watch from a distance? In this podcast, we are excited to sit down with a leading voice in the Canadian Church—someone who has cut through the distractions to call the Church back to becoming a disciple-making Church. Daniel Im is a pastor, Bible teacher, writer, and podcast host who is passionate about discipleship and the local church. He is the lead pastor of Beulah Alliance Church and the author of No Silver Bullets, Planting Missional Churches, You Are What You Do, and the newly released The Discipleship Opportunity. He lives in Edmonton, Alberta, with his wife, Christina, and their three children. In this conversation, we discuss topics such as: How the pandemic affected the Church and the world in which we currently live How we can navigate a post-truth, relativistic culture as people who believe in truth Why we should view the pandemic as an opportunity for greater growth in Christ The impact of “deconstruction” and what we can learn from it The dangers of consumerism in the Church and how God calls us deeper Why it is so essential for men to intentionally seek connection and friendship with other men We cover all this and more in this fascinating conversation with Daniel Im! ---------------------------------------------- Website: https://impactus.org/ Check Our Resources for Men: https://impactus.org/resources/ ---------------------------------------------- Follow us on Social Media Facebook Instagram LinkedIn Twitter This Is Me TV

There are cracks in the foundation. We have assumed that church and discipleship should look a certain way to produce more numbers, but through the last several years, we've seen we may have missed the mark. In this episode, Daniel Im discusses discipleship in a post-modern world where truth is seen as subjective rather than objective. He proposes a discipleship framework that focuses on interested Christians and interested non-Christians rather than just reaching one group or the other. He encourages churches to empower all disciples to make disciples rather than relying only on formal church leadership. We talk equipping believers to gather, grow, give, and go together through community rather than just gathering for teaching. It emphasizes the power of storytelling and addressing the spiritual, emotional, and psychological needs of people. The conversation also touches on the changing landscape of preaching and the need to create tension and curiosity in sermons. The world is a very different place from what it was just a few years ago. Today's post-everything world is arguably more divisive, political, indifferent, and impatient than ever. While many believe that the best course of action is to find a way back to how things used to be, is that actually the best way forward? Stephanie welcomes Pastor Daniel Im to discuss his upcoming book, The Discipleship opportunity, releasing June 18, 2024. If you are looking to understand the world we live in, so that you can properly address those around you with the message of Christ but without being “that Christian” then this conversation will help you identify several profiles of people, so that you will know how to address them. Do they need to hear the gospel right now? Or is it more about building relationships first? Could it be about alternative, creative ways to tell them about Jesus? It all depends on how they currently approach their spirituality. What can you do, and how? Daniel Im will help us understand who “sleepers” are, as well as “seekers”. Now, what about the “consumers” in your church? You know, the ones who come to watch and would rather not participate? How do you relate to them? And, if you are what Daniel calls a “disciple” then what is your role in the body of Christ? Given the many ways that our world has changed, it's time for Christian leadership strategies to change, and for churches to approach making disciples, evangelism, and preaching differently than yesterday. The Discipleship Opportunity is a powerful tool for church leaders seeking to navigate the challenges of our rapidly evolving, post-pandemic, post-Christian, and post-everything world. In this helpful resource, Daniel Im equips readers with practical ways to reach those who are spiritually asleep in your church and community and disciple your people to know Jesus deeply. Learn disciple-making principles that are as straightforward as they are timely. Whether you're a seasoned leader or just starting out, don't miss this opportunity to emerge as a stronger, healthier, and more evangelistic church. 5 Leadership Questions Podcast on Church Leadership with Todd Adkins
In this episode of the 5 Leadership Questions podcast, Todd Adkins and Dan Iten are joined by Daniel Im who is the Lead Pastor of Beulah Alliance Church in Edmonton, Alberta. During their conversation, they discuss the following questions: What is one thing you've read recently that you would want to pass along? What is one thing that you've listened to or watched recently? What is one tool or resource that you've started to use recently? Daniel, your church just celebrated 80 baptisms. Can you tell us how that came about and what you learned throughout that process? BEST QUOTES "Leadership is disruption. If you are not constantly leading the disruption, and then bringing about change, then someone else or something else is going to disrupt your organization, and you are going to be out of control of that." – Daniel Im “With customer service, we want people in our churches to be well-cared for as guest services are super important to us. But a lot of times we make it very transactional and make it about boxes being checked or processes being created rather than making it about the person.” – Todd Adkins “I don't want to let the pain, the criticism, and the hurt of ministry so affect me that my heart is hard.” – Daniel Im “I feel that we can so easily get caught up in the, “I want the biggest church, I want the biggest name, I want all these things” mindset in our ministries. But you know, when you encounter these people who only want to make Christ famous or when they want growth in their church and organizations for God's glory and not their own, it's a powerful example of where I'd like to me in my own life.” – Dan Iten RECOMMENDED RESOURCES You Are What You Do: And Six Other Lies about Work, Life, and Love by Daniel Im No Silver Bullets: Five Small Shifts that Will Transform Your Ministry by Daniel Im Planting Missional Churches: Your Guide to Starting Churches that Multiply by Ed Stetzer and Daniel Im Managing Corporate Lifecycles (Pb): How Organizations Grow, Age and Die by Ichak Adizes Don't Hold Back: Breaking Free from the American Gospel to Follow Jesus Fully by David Platt Discovering the Gospel in Every Book of the Bible with Tim Keller (YouTube Series) Words with God: Trading Boring, Empty Prayer for Real Connection by Addison Bevere Unreasonable Hospitality: The Remarkable Power of Giving People More Than They Expect by Will Guidara

We hear a lot of advice about how to grow spiritually. But what actions will make the biggest difference? According to one study, reading the Bible is the number one action you can take to grow. “When it comes to reading the Bible, hands down, this is the input goal that has a direct impact on the total score of all the output goals, or discipleship attributes,” writes Daniel Im in his book No Silver Bullets, reflecting on a study by Lifeway Research.
