In this week's show, I'm sharing five health and fitness facts that, like it or not, are crucial to your journey:There Are No Shortcuts: Sustainable progress in fitness, weight loss, and fertility requires hard work and consistency. Quick fixes like fad diets and miracle supplements won't cut it.Exercise Alone Isn't Enough: You can't out-train a bad diet. Proper nutrition is key to achieving your fitness and fertility goals.Consistency Trumps Intensity: It's better to have moderate workouts you can stick to regularly than intense sessions that burn you out quickly. Fitness is a marathon, not a sprint.Weight Loss Isn't Linear: Expect fluctuations due to factors like water retention and hormonal changes. Focus on overall progress, not just the scale. There Is No One-Size-Fits-All Solution: Find what works best for your body and schedule. This might require some experimentation, but listen to your body and adapt as needed. These truths might be tough to accept, but they're essential for anyone on a fitness and fertility journey. Don't be discouraged by setbacks. Instead, focus on these three key elements to help you succeed:Find a Coach: A coach will guide and support you.Find a Plan: A plan will tell you when to work out and when to rest.Find Your Community: A community will understand and support your journey.Join my community of thousands of women on Instagram at @fitness_fertility for more support and resources. Get ready to strip away the glossy sheen of fitness myths and discover the raw truths that can redefine your health journey. We kick off with a candid discussion about the illusion that simply eating healthy equates to weight loss, and why calorie balance reigns supreme. But it's not all about the scale; we also peel back the curtain on the reality that a chiseled physique doesn't always mirror happiness or health, and share some sobering insights into the complex struggles behind those enviable Instagram bodies. Plus, I'll get real about how compliments on weight loss aren't always the gift they seem to be, and confess that sometimes, the taste of healthy eating just doesn't hit the spot the way our favorite comfort foods do.Then, we're stirring the pot on "healthy" desserts that may be cloaked in natural ingredients yet are just as calorie-dense as their sinful counterparts. I'll share my kitchen blunders where my wholesome creations rivaled store-bought treats in calories. We'll also dish out the secret sauce to balanced nutrition, serving up a feast of knowledge on how a combination of protein, veggies, fruits, and the occasional indulgence can truly satiate and nourish your body. Wrapping up, we get heartfelt about body image and self-acceptance, advocating for a perspective that celebrates our bodies for their strength and functionality while still embracing personal growth. Join us for these frank reflections, and don't forget to share your fitness revelations to keep the discussion going strong.

Welcome to another solo episode of the Over 50 Health and Wellness Podcast. Today I'm sharing a bit about my personal yoga experience and reflecting on some things I've gotten wrong on my health journey. I tried hot power yoga years ago - intense flows in a heated room. It was a sweaty struggle at first as an inflexible beginner surrounded by bendy yogis. But over time it helped me build strength, flexibility and mind-body connection. I'm now re-exploring slower styles like yin yoga. It's challenging in different ways - sitting still and turning inward. But great for mobility and meditation. Next I talk about things I've been wrong about. We all make mistakes and get things wrong, especially in ever-changing fields like health and fitness. I've learned a lot through trial and error. For example: - What works for weight loss long-term is more complex than just calories in and out. - Consistent balanced training is better than all-out intensity. - Anyone can make a positive impact with health info; no one is too unimportant. The key is staying humble and open to growth. It's uncomfortable admitting when we're wrong, but that's how we improve. I hope this reflection provides some value. Thanks for listening - stay strong! Many people say the best diet and exercise regimens are the ones you can stick to. This is true insofar as compliance is concerned, but it misses a crucial caveat: efficacy. No matter how well you stick to a diet or exercise routine that doesn't work, you're nowhere. The goldilocks zone, then, is the overlap between what you can stick with and what works. And while that territory is larger than you might think, there are boundaries. Some people try to snub such “tough fitness truths” for more comforting myths and fictions, but the sooner you can find, accept, and adapt to them, the sooner you can get on the glide path to your best body ever.
