Emily Skye wants women everywhere to know that they are not alone in their struggles. Today, I’m catching up with the fitness trainer who reaches 14 million via her app (and more than 2.5 million on Instagram) for the show. The Australian-born mom-of-two talks to me about her upbringing and the #hurdlemoments that came in her teenage years resulting in anxiety and depression. She details a few abusive relationships that made her question her value, and gets honest about trying to end her life around age 18. She talks about how that experience made her determined to help those with similar struggles, eventually inspiring her journey into the fitness industry and the creation of her online programming. With her outstanding reach, being such a public person comes with a fair amount of criticism. We chat about that today and how she manages unsolicited feedback. Plus: The individuals who inspire HER to be better so that she can be more present, both online and with her family. We also talk about life as a mom (just nine months ago she had her second baby on her bathroom floor!) and what she’s looking forward to in the coming months including the recent launch of her fit post-pregnancy program. Well, it's our second episode back and the first one I recorded for this year and I can already say (like I've said many times before) that making the show has helped me so immensely that if none of you listened it'd still be so worthwhile. And that's something I've found so liberating about podcasting not being so visibly measured as social media – you just make the content you find valuable and the engagement is a bonus rather than reverse engineering what you think will go well (which can be tempting to do)… EXCEPT for our guest this week who is one of my favourite people on the internet – mine and the favourite of 14 million other people in her community and for good reason. Without looking further into it and perhaps because of the way the landscape has evolved since she started out (back on blogspot in 2011, mind you), you might assume Emily Skye's great success was overnight and accidental, but you'd be terribly mistaken. From the way she has navigated her still ongoing postpartum journey with her second child (but really from how she approaches everything she does), her refreshing approach to authenticity, balance and strength stands out from the rest (and has just been channeled into her brand-new postpartum program that you'll hear all about). Diving a little deeper into her story reveals the decades of challenge, grit and hard work that has led her to where she is now. I was so fascinated by how much I hadn't heard even after viciously scouring the Internet from her younger years in commission housing and severe bullying to the arsenal of skills she has across make up, hair, photography, editing and everything she uses in her business today and she laughed about how often she shares her earlier years, but how only the glossy later years seems to stick. So, I thoroughly enjoyed hearing more about her resourcefulness, endearing self-awareness and delightful self-confessed weirdness. She also happens to be the co-founder of James Cosmetics, my FAVOURITE EVER eye masks among the many over things she has going on. I hope you enjoy getting to know her as much as I did. It was such a contrast to so much of the wider content being shared by others on social media - that didn't show this real, uncurated, less glamorous side! Whether it's training, beauty, or motherhood, Emily is loved for sharing her journey with her community through the highs and lows. In her early adulthood, Emily struggled with her mental health before finding fitness and falling in love with the way it made her feel. She wanted to share that feeling and educate others on how the best thing you can do is be strong and happy. She has been featured on the cover of Women's Health in more than 20 countries, and counts powerhouse names like Dwayne Johnson and Khloe Kardashian as friends. We discuss: Her business being 20 years of work - not an overnight success Emily's approach to keeping it real on social media, how she chooses images to share and how she approaches her caption writing Staying true to her own values and vision when so many opportunities are offered to her What she focuses on to pull through when things get tough How she manages her mental health now while running her business What she wish she had known when she was first starting out And so much more! I have a favour to ask you as you listen to this episode: take a screenshot and share it to your social media and tag myself @emilyosmond and @emilyskyefit so we know you tuned into this episode! YOUR SUCCESS IS IN YOUR OWN HANDS. What does it take to be a champion? You have to love what you do. You have to care about the little details that other people let slide. And you have to have deep, unshakable confidence. A lot of what separates a player from a champion is mental. We can’t ignore the importance of keeping our mind away from the negative and focused on the end goal. On today’s episode of The School of Greatness, I’m sharing the most inspirational clips of interviews with the world’s greatest female athletes: Maria Sharapova, Katrin Tanja Davíðsdóttir, Michelle Waterson, Sasha Digiulian, Brooke Ence, The Bella twins, Emily Skye, and Danica Patrick. Maria Sharapova is one of the world’s greatest tennis players, Katrin Tanja Davíðsdóttir is a two-time champion of the CrossFit Games, Michelle Waterson is a mixed martial artist who competes in the UFC, Sasha Digiulian is a world champion climber, Brooke Ence is an elite CrossFit Champion, The Bella Twins are former WWE Wrestlers, Emily Skye is a top fitness model, and Danica Patrick is the most successful woman in the history of American open-wheel racing. We can all get distracted by self-doubt, comparing ourselves to others, and focusing on the wrong things. But we can train ourselves to have the mindset of a champion. It feels good to be great at what you do. Get ready to learn step into your greatness on Episode 803. Some Questions I Ask: Why are you so driven to be the best? Women’s Health Australia Uninterrupted Podcast

When you chat to mega-trainer Emily Skye, it’s easy to forget she’s estimated to be worth $36 million. That Forbes named her one of the most influential fitness stars in the world. That she debuted on the Australian Financial Review’s Young Rich List in 2017. Or that she has Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson on speed dial as one of her mentors. But despite her success, the Gold Coast entrepreneur is warm and real, both in person and on social media: whether she’s opening up about food, fitness, mental health or her growing empire. Having given birth to her first baby, Mia, in December last year, Skye documented her entire pre- and post-pregnancy journey on Instagram, in an effort to change the conversation and empower other women. In this revealing chat, we talk life, business, body image… and how making your dreams a reality isn’t as hard as you think. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

“NO ONE FEELS 100% CONFIDENT IN THEMSELVES ALL THE TIME.” - EMILY SKYE There’s so many times where we focus on what society tells us will make us happy, and that’s all we chase. Money, a nice car, a house, and material objects that show off our “success." We always end up overlooking ourselves. You avoid exercising until the doctor says you have to. I’m sure you’ve experienced it plenty. You ignore your stress at work until you just can’t take it anymore. Ultimately your emotional state should take a priority. Without it, you can’t be at your best. At the end of the day, happiness is an emotional. All of the material items in the world can’t get you there. That’s why I wanted to do a mashup this week on overcoming emotional obstacles from some of the masters: Emily Skye, Josh Shipp, Rupi Kaur and Joshua Millburn. On this episode you’ll learn how to overcome emotional barriers that continue to hold us back. If you take these lessons from people who have come from all walks of life you’ll be able to achieve your true destiny. Please, sit down with this one and take notes. I know it’s going to help you tremendously. So learn how to keep your emotions in line to nail your goals, and feel fulfilled, on Episode 671. Some Questions I Ask: Do you still go through times of being insecure? (5:40) Why do you get insecure at times? (6:32) If something isn’t working in your business, how do you handle the inner critic? (10:26) How old were you (Shipp) when you met your final foster parents? (15:56) Do you (Rupi) think your work would be as powerful without going through pain and suffering? (19:43) In This Episode You Will Learn: What everyone needs to be responsible for (5:04) Tools you can use to overcome insecurities (7:48) How Emily stays grounded when things are going well (11:38) How Josh Shipp was emotionally removed from people who were trying to help him (14:02) Shipp’s lesson from a night in jail as a teenager (16:38) The danger of being your own worst enemy (18:41) How Rupi continues to create new things (21:03) What you need to focus on (22:34) How Joshua Millburn knows what needs to be fixed (25:17)

You're not alone, and it's natural. Even I find myself comparing my body to other guys on Instagram and feeling like I'm not adding up - and I'm a fit, healthy guy. The key is to shift our mindset.
