This week, I speak to Nikki Muller is a Swiss-Filipina, Third Culture Kid. The FLY Entertainment Artist landed her first regional TV job when she was just 15 years old, hosting MTV@Mbassy. At 20 she was nominated as “Best Entertainment Presenter” at the Asian Television Awards while interning with Diane Sawyer for ABC News in New York City. She's covered tennis and motor sports on Fox Sports Asia, talked food science on National Geographic and moderated discussions ranging from sustainability, inclusivity in the workplace and the future of tech. While working at the United Nations Headquarters, Nikki's interest in organizational leadership and cultural competence was first sparked. Nikki now focuses her area of expertise on the Third Culture Kid (TCK) experience and the unique lessons that come from having lived a highly mobile and multi-cultural childhood. Nikki, and many TCKs like her, are acclimatised to disruption from an early age and seek out the opportunities that accompany change. As a trained journalist, Nikki's research on identity, belonging and managing transitions is extremely relevant to today's most significant workplace challenges. We're seeing organisations prioritise diversity, equity and inclusion as they face remarkable changes within their own companies across all sectors. Nikki's keynotes share small gearshifts that can make a big difference in reinvigorating collaborative teams amidst uncertainty. Her keynotes are brought to life through her own personal stories and interwoven with the latest science around the power of positive transitions and the tools to cultivate a culture of belonging. Having spent her formative years navigating copious change and grappling with a search for roots and community, Nikki has found a way to take the lessons of her childhood and make them relevant to today's most pressing challenges and opportunities. Episode Highlights: Life as the new Mrs. Nikki Muller Deciding on next moves as a TCK The need for restlessness, the anticipation for change Being acclimated to discomfort as a TCK The relationship to taking risks as a TCK The loss and grief that comes from a move What happens in our limbic system when experiencing culture shock Where do we feel a sense of belonging? No player ever been as synonymous to any Grand Slam tennis tournament the way one Rafael Nadal has ruled the French Open. Unfortunately for the king of clay - who has won the tournament a record 14-times - he will not be in the running to add to that tally in 2023, having been ruled out with a hip flexor injury that's sidelined him since January. What does this mean for the rest of the field, and perhaps Roland Garros itself? Emaad Akhtar, former Sports Reporter with FOX Sports Asia, joins Elliott and Raushan to discuss! Got a story to tell? Nikki Muller is a Swiss-Filipina Presenter, LIVE events host and Third Culture Advocate. At 20 she was nominated as “Best Entertainment Presenter” at the Asian Television Awards. She's covered tennis and motor sports on Fox Sports Asia, talked food science on National Geographic and cycled 6 countries along the Mekong Delta for Channel News Asia. Nikki adores the theater and was a recent Straights Times Life! “Best Actress” nominee for Pangdemonium's one-woman production Girls and Boys. Nikki has since focused her area of study on the Third Culture Kid experience and the unique gifts that come from having lived a highly mobile and multi-cultural childhood. Nikki's research on Third Culture Kids (TCKs) through the lens of identity, culture competence and resilience has led her to see the immense value and impact that they bring to workplace dynamics and organizational leadership. For TCKs, globalization is in their DNA. Global experience builds cultural awareness, a broader world-view, inspires flexibility and open-mindedness, and develops highly impactful global leaders.Nikki's research interest is to help other TCKs become more aware of the instrumentalopportunities they've been given and to encourage them to leverage these superpowers within their teams and in positions of leadership. I thoroughly enjoyed my conversation with fellow TCK gal pal, Nikki! The book on which she shared a part of her essay towards the end of the conversation is called, RESTART. Her essay starts on page 234. Connect with Nikki on her Instagram SUPPORT THE PODCAST ON PATREON I offer these podcasts freely, and any way you can support makes all the difference. Our ever-popular series, 'Voices of F1', continues this week with Fox Sports Asia's Matthew Marsh as a guest. There’s been a lot of talk about how tonight's visitors to Anfield are on the wane. But one look at Bayern Munich's form since the turn of November suggests otherwise.Munich have won 11 of their last 13 games in all competitions to keep their fight for glory alive on three fronts. But as the main guest of this preview podcast explains, they are certainly not without their frailties.Steve Dawson is a Liverpool-fan based in Singapore, where he works as a presenter for Fox Sports Asia. One of his main roles is anchoring the station’s coverage of the Bundesliga, and we caught up with him last month to talk Naby Keita’s form, Jurgen Klopp’s evolution and Timo Werner’s chances of arriving at Anfield in the summer. But this podcast is all about tonight's huge Champions League clash, Bayern's strengths and weaknesses, their injury problems, and their under-pressure new manager. And after we speak to Steve, you'll hear from Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara to get the thoughts from Niko Kovac's camp before what truly is a meeting of two European heavyweights. We picked up the phone to Steve Dawson, a Liverpool fan based in Singapore, and presenter for Fox Sports Asia, for our latest podcast. As well as being a big Red, he is also a Bundesliga expert, as one of his main roles at the station is to anchor their coverage of the German top flight. That leads him perfectly placed to give his take on issues that will be of huge interest to his fellow Liverpool supporters - starting with Naby Keita. It's not quite happened for the midfielder since his big money move from RB Leipzig, and while Steve offers an insight into why that might be the case, he also explains why there is every reason to believe that Keita will come good.Jurgen Klopp has certainly done that as Reds boss and, with host Paul Wheelock, the duo talk his impact at Anfield, how it's viewed in his native Germany, and how he has evolved from his highly successful stint managing Borussia Dortmund, who themselves are now moving on from their talismanic former manager. So much so that Klopp admitted Dortmund were the team he wanted to avoid in the last-16 of the Champions League.Instead, Liverpool got Bayern Munich, and Steve touches on that tie, before talk turns to Timo Werner, the exceptional young Leipzig striker who has long been tipped to follow Keita to the Reds. And the podcast rounds off with a little bit about Steve himself and just how big Liverpool are in the part of the world he now calls home.Enjoy.
