Muzeja direktora vietniece krājuma darbā Anita Meinarte vispirms skaidro mūsu šīs dienas pieturvietas nozīmi. Blakus dažādām kristietības konfesijām Latvijas karte atklāj vēl kādu būtisku kopienu. Tie ir ebreji ar savu reliģiju jūdaismu un lūgšanu namiem sinagogām. Ebreju konsolidācija Latvijas teritorijā notiek 18. gadsimtā, un 19. gadsimta otrajā pusē tādās pilsētās kā Rīga, Daugavpils, Jelgava ir katrā jau vairākas sinagogas. Otrā pasaules kara ietekmē ir piedzīvoti zaudējumi, tostarp zudusi krāšņā Rīgas Horālā sinagoga. Mūsdienās daudzām kādreizējo sinagogu ēkām ir citas funkcijas, piemēram, Zaļā sinagoga Rēzeknē darbojas kā kultūrvēstures un tūrisma centrs, taču aizvien funkcionē sinagoga Daugavpilī un Rīgā, Peitavas ielā, kas uzskatāma par jūgendstila pērli. In de interieurontwerpen van Studio Modijefsky komt het programma, de locatie en de verhalen die daarbij horen tot leven. Met Esther Stam, oprichter en creatief directeur van het bureau, spreken we over de functie van de gelaagdheid van de interieurs die ze ontwerpen, en het plezier om met vakmensen samen te werken aan de realisatie ervan.In de podcast worden de volgende projecten besproken:Van StapeleBonniePolly GoudvischWolford winkels in Amsterdam, Parijs en Parijs CeciGitaneVolare Waar andere ontwerpers er misschien voor kiezen een enkele verhaallijn in een ontwerp uit te werken, daar kiest Studio Modijefsky er vaak voor om meerdere verhaallijnen door elkaar te weven om zo tot bijzonder gelaagde ontwerpen te komen. Het programma zoals de opdrachtgever dat voor zich ziet is altijd de basis, maar als het even kan mengt het bureau dat met elementen uit de architectonische context, met aspecten uit de geschiedenis van de plek, en zelfs verhalen die daarbij horen. Zo weet Studio Modijefsky in hun interieurontwerpen de eigenheid van plekken echt naar voren te halen.Bij cafés en restaurants vindt Esther het interessant dat bezoekers daar wat langer zijn, soms ook vaker terugkomen. Dan is het de moeite waard om ontwerpen ook te voorzien van details die mensen misschien pas bij hun tweede of derde bezoek ontdekken, legt ze uit in de podcast. Ook ontwerpt ze met haar team graag als het ware een 'interieurlandschap' waarin de sfeer neergezet wordt en waarin bezoekers verschillende typen plekken kunnen vinden. Met een groep wil je misschien in het midden van een ruimte zitten, terwijl je je met z'n tweetjes misschien liever even wilt terugtrekken in een rustig zitje in een hoek.In de podcast vertelt Esther hoe ze haar liefde voor interieurontwerp ontdekte tijdens een verblijf in New York en hoe de ontwerpers op haar bureau in Amsterdam bijdragen aan de verdieping van de benadering van het bureau. Voor ieder project ontwikkelt het bureau een ‘design language' die vervolgens vertaald wordt in een interieurontwerp. Om die ‘design language' overtuigend neer te zetten, maakt het bureau graag gebruik van maatwerk meubilair, verlichting en afwerkingen – iets wat bijvoorbeeld in de oude binnensteden, waar iedere centimeter telt, ook bijzonder effectief is. Bij de realisatie van de interieurs werkt Studio Modijefsky niet alleen samen met interieurbouwers, loodgieters, installateurs en dergelijke, maar ook met staalbouwers, keramisten, illustratoren, lampenmakers, glasblazers, en talloze andere makers. Esther geniet ervan om in werkplaatsen te kijken wat deze makers kunnen en daarbij ook de grens op te zoeken. Met elkaar kan zo steeds een unieke plek gerealiseerd worden.Deze podcast wordt mede mogelijk gemaakt door AGC. Sent to China, they loved even their enemies, faced captivity with peace, and confessed, “May God be glorified whether by life or by death.” Beheaded in 1934, they still bore witness that to die is gain (Phil. 1:21), and their sacrifice became a seed that stirred many to missions and reminded us that the Great Commission was never meant to be easy, only worth it in Christ.

Split Tooth Media has done extensive coverage of Michael Glover Smith's body of work over the years. Our own Bennett Glace has interviewed him three times — once when his film Mercury in Retrograde (2017) streamed as part of the Gene Siskel Film Center's “Film Center From Your Sofa” series, and again after the release of his feature film Relative (2022). A third interview was conducted to follow a Split Tooth Presents screening of Mercury in Retrograde at Portland's Movie Madness Miniplex. Since then, Smith has premiered two films here on our site — Paper Planes (2023), a melancholy Christmas story about agoraphobia, and a vulnerable account of a first date entitled Handle With Care (2024). It is easy to write so much about a creator whose output has been as consistent as Smith's. In 2026, he already has two artistic endeavors of note. The first is Bob Dylan as Filmmaker: No Time To Think, a book by Smith released on March 2. The second is his fifth official feature film, Hekla, which premiered at the 29th annual George Lindsey UNA Film Festival in Alabama on March 6. It was quite the busy week for Michael Glover Smith, but he still made time to chat with me about these two new projects and his career as a whole. With Hekla, Smith crafts his most intimate portrait of a Chicagoan to date. The film's titular character, a young actress played exuberantly by Elizabeth Stam, spends an entire day moving from one audition to another, rarely getting a moment to breathe. During all of this, she has to deal with relationship issues, headshot appointments, and a live bar performance of Macbeth that night. The character of Hekla first appeared in Smith's film Relative and Stam was an obvious standout amongst the cast. The decision to revisit this character also marks Smith's first time making a film without an ensemble cast at the forefront. Typically, a Michael Glover Smith venture features two couples, three couples, or an entire family to keep up with. Here, the filmmaker shows growth in his ability to focus on a sole protagonist, one that Stam herself helped him craft. The film has already garnered some rave reception from those who saw it in Alabama and will continue its festival run this week on March 28 at the Beloit International Film Festival in Wisconsin. Putni ir dabas procesu vēstneši, tie mūs pavada ikdienā arī gada tukšākajos un klusākajos mēnešos, un ne viens vien saikni ar dabu izjūt tieši vērojot zīlītes barotavā, vai izjūt īpašu saviļnojumu, redzam atgriežamies gājputnus.  Šoreiz ornitologs Latvijas Ornitoloģijas biedrības priekšsēdētājs Viesturs Ķerus stāsta par meža pūci. Meža pūce ir parastākā no Latvijas pūču sugām.  Tā labāk jūtas kārtīgos mežos, bet dzīvo arī parkos, pat pilsētās, kur ir visādi grauzēji, kas pūcei tīri labi garšo. Viņai svarīgi, lai būtu koki ar lieliem dobumiem. "Meža pūces balsi var dzirdēt jau ziemā, tāpēc ka meža pūce ir nometnieks, nekur daudz apkārt neblandās, dzīvo šeit visu gadu. Jau ziemā varam dzirdēt pūču balsis. Dziedāšanas jeb sasaukšanās maksimums parasti ir kādu pusstundu pēc saullēkta, un ir jāieklausās uzmanīgi, lai dzirdētu visu dziesmu, jo meža pūce ir kā lielie mākslinieki ar lielajām pauzēm, starp dziesmas daļām ir pauzītes, tāpēc reizēm pat nedzirdam visu. Ir vērts piestāt un paklausīties," skaidro Viesturs Ķerus. Reizēm gadās dzirdēt meža pūci arī dienā, bet ir jāuzmanās, jo tas var būt sīlis, kas ākstās, reizēm cilvēki sajauc arī lauka baloža ūjināšanu ar meža pūces dziesmu. Ligzdot meža pūces sāk stipri agri. Īpaša pilsētās ir zināmi gadījumi, kad jau marta vidū pūču mazuļi atstāj ligzdas.  Tā kā pūce ir nakts dzīvnieks, visbiežāk mēs viņu neredzam, tikai dzirdam viņas balsi. Pūce arī medī klausoties, tad pati, ja neskaita to sasaukšanos, cenšas uzvesties pēc iespējas klusāk. Tāpēc pūcēm spārnu švīkstoņas vispār nav. Viņām spalvas ir tādas, kas ļauj lidot ļoti klusu.  "Ja nu gadās redzēt dienā pūci, kas sēž kaut kur uz kāda egles zara un izliekas par kādu koka stumbenīti, tad respektējiet viņas izlikšanos un ejiet klusām prom, lai viņa tur sēž. Ja jūs viņu iztraucēsiet, nav tā, ka pūce būtu dienā akla un nevarētu palidot. Bet pūce ļoti nepatīk vārnām. Ja viņai nāksies no savas slēptuves izlidot pa dienu, ir liela iespēja, ka viņai drīz vien klups virsū vesels bars vārnu. Tāpēc ļaujiet pūcei mierīgi pasēdēt tur, kur viņa sēž, un neiztramdiet viņu," mudina Viesturs Ķerus.

What Is The Issue?

With Rep. Cecil Brockman's recent resignation amid questions of possible expulsion, attention has turned to what that process actually looks like in the NC House, and how rare it is for legislators to remove one of their own. In 2008, the NC House took an extraordinary and historic step — voting 109-5 to expel Rep. Thomas Wright of New Hanover County for ethical misconduct. It was the first time in more than a century that lawmakers had removed one of their own. In this episode, former Reps.
