A summer 2023 signing from Wolfsburg, the 26-year-old Netherlands international has already made a sizeable impact on Gareth Taylor's side at the start of the new Barclays Women's Super League season. The Great Coaches: Leadership & Life

Our Great Coach on this episode is Gareth Taylor. Gareth played as a professional football player for 18 seasons, playing for Bristol Rovers, Crystal Palace, Manchester City, Burnley and Nottingham Forest among others teams. He retired in 2011 and started coaching youth teams at Manchester City. After 8 years in the City Academy, he was appointed Head Coach of the Women's team and led them to a FA Cup title in 2020 and the League Cup title in 2022. Some of the key highlights of the interview for me were: How he defines his purpose on this planet as helping people; and how understanding this has helped him focus his energies and life. The importance of their review process, which they complete using a multi-disciplinary team, in order to drive improved performance on the pitch. And the importance of risk taking in the culture at Man City and how he goes about empowering people to do this. Brought in to help Manchester City's promotion push from the third tier in November 1998, Gareth Taylor found himself in the midst of a third play-off final of his career at Wembley. Having lost twice already, Taylor came off the bench with the Blues 1-0 down in the closing stages - and he must have felt it was going to be three on run when Gillingham scored their second moments later. However, Taylor and the rest of the team fought back to win on penalties. He's given his memories of that era to the Blue Moon Podcast's David Mooney. For Manchester City their season campaign begins with a trip to Goodison Park which will play host for our game against Willie Kirk's Everton on Saturday afternoon. Kick- off is 1.30pm, the game available to watch live on the BBC.  A tough opposition for the City who have strengthened well over the summer. Both teams will be looking to get off to perfect start.  City head into this game off of the back of a midweek trip to Spain where they met Real Madrid in the UWCL & despite key players missing from the squad due to injury. Gareth Taylor will be hoping to have more options at his disposal.  Last week, we spoke to Dan Pentland, Chief Editor from FAWSL Full Time Magazine and this week we're getting the thoughts of the fans. We're joined by, Dave, Jayne & Jude from the Official Manchester City Women's Supporters Club to get their thoughts ahead of the start of the season.

It's that time of year again, where we reflect on our season campaign, I'm joined this week by special guests, Dave, Jayne, Jude & Caz from the Official Manchester City Women Supporters Club (@MCWFC_OSC).  We discuss the highs, the lows & everything in-between.  It was a relatively slow start to the season for Man City Women, it took us some time to pick up the momentum that almost came too late for us & essentially costing us the league title but it was a strong finish under Gareth Taylor and the fight to keep the pressure on Chelsea that should be celebrated which we will carried forward into next season. A new manager, with new ideas & philosophy.   This is our 100th episode! We'd like to thank our listeners and everyone who has contributed to the podcast across the last few seasons.  We'll be back in September! Have a great Summer. Episode 62  Then importance of positive influences.   Alan Mahon moved to Birkenhead as a teenager, turning down offers from Chelsea and Middlesborough amongst others. Heavily influenced by his Father, Alan wanted to move somewhere where his first team opportunities would be plentiful. At the time, Tranmere were a high flying Division 1 (championship) side, and had players in their ranks such as Pat Nevin, John Aldridge, and Liam O'Brien. During his five years with Tranmere, Alan played over 100 times, and was a crucial part of the 1999/2000 team that reacher a Worthington Cup Final, and Fa Cup 1/4 final.  Mahon moved to Lisbon, playing in the champions league, before returning to England and appearing for Blackburn, Wigan, Burnley, Ipswich, Cardiff and Blackpool, before returning to Prenton Park in 2009. What felt like a fairytale return to the club, quickly turned sour as the clubs performances on the pitch under manager John Barnes saw the club floundering at the bottom of the table.  By 2011, Alan Mahon had hung up his boots, and terminated his contract with Tranmere 12 months early. The loss of his father, combined with the difficulty he was having competing physically, Alan decided he didn't want to be blocking the path for young players like Aaron Cresswell if he had nothing to contribute. Alan spent some years out of the game before returning as a coach at Manchester City women's team, stepping is as interim manager last year before resuming his current role as assistant to former Tranmere man Gareth Taylor.  If you enjoy this episode, or any of our other episodes, please pop over to apple podcasts, and give us a rating and a review.  https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/man-marking/id1506661828 You can find us on Twitter @marking_man and don't forget to use the hashtag #WheresTheTalkingLads  If you have been affected by any of the themes discussed in today's episode, we have listed some organisations below who are there if you need to talk: Samaritans  Call 116 132 for free https://www.samaritans.org/ Papyrus UK Call 0800 068 41 41 Papyrus Website CALM ZONE 0800 58 58 58 https://www.thecalmzone.net/help/helpline/ MIND 0300 123 3393 https://www.mind.org.uk/ The Kaleidoscope Plus Group 0800 059 0123 https://www.kaleidoscopeplus.org.uk/

This past weekend saw both Man City & Chelsea in action, City played host to visitors Aston Villa & Chelsea with their top-of the table clash against Manchester United. Both teams picking up the 3 points, respectively. For Chelsea, a 2-1 win against United saw Emma Hayes' side top the table on goal difference with a game in hand. Goals from Harder & in-form Fran Kirby contributing the goals. Manchester City ran out 7-0 winners at home against Aston Villa. It was a much-changed team for City, who were without several key players, while Alan Mahon took charge with Gareth Taylor isolating at home. We saw Millie Davies and Alicia Window making their senior debuts from the bench in the second half. It was a controlled & professional performance. We're back again, what a week. City making big moves.  It is a real sign of intent from the club for this upcoming season. Rose Lavelle has now been confirmed as our latest signing, similar deal to that of her international team-mate, Sam Mewis.  It was move that seemed a bit more complicated, to that of Mewis and some of those complexities have now come to light – with OL reign acquiring the rights of the player from former club Washington Spirit.  With that a conditional agreement was signed which will see Levelle play outside the NWSL.  Hannah (@hannmaring) joins me on this week's episode from The Woso Show (@TheWosoShow). As we discuss the move and how the squad is shaping up with the final preparations now underway for the upcoming FA Women's Community Shield against Chelsea.  Also hear from newly appointed Head Coach, Gareth Taylor and Head of Women's Football at Manchester City, Gavin Makel.  Enjoy this week's show!  Follow us on Twitter, Instagram & Facebook @mcwfancast.  Host - @emma_shone
