Season 6 continues with a special double-episode week as Breifne Earley, Aaron Clarke and Peamount United's Avril Brierley look back on the opening silverware of the season and continue our coverage of the Women's Development League. The episode begins with the key moments from the President's Cup Final (2:00), with match highlights provided by kind arrangement with the League of Ireland and the Football Association of Ireland. We then break down the contest in detail as Breifne, Aaron and Avril analyse how the season curtain-raiser unfolded and what it might mean for both sides heading into the Women's Premier Division campaign (6:54).Attention then turns to the international stage as Aaron reviews the Republic of Ireland Women's National Team's recent outings against two European heavyweights. Ireland suffered narrow 2-1 defeats to both France and the Netherlands during the international window, performances that raised plenty of talking points about the squad's development and where the team stands ahead of future competitive fixtures (23:13).The spotlight then moves back to the domestic pathway as CK United captain Fia Murphy (38:32) joins the show. She discusses the club's exciting start in the Women's Development League, the environment being built within CK United, and the importance of providing opportunities for young players in emerging senior programmes. With the new season gathering momentum across every level of the game, this is the first of two episodes this week as the podcast continues to track the early storylines shaping the 2026 campaign.
That's a wrap on International Break of 2025! We're joined by Amy O'Connor and we're talking all things USWNT and England Lioness matches including their opponents of course! The US took on Italy twice and we're asking the questions that everyone wants to hear: the GK situation? Is this the starting back line? Does Sara miss the 'glory days' or are they still here? Next, onto the England squad that is seeing so much youth. A sell out at Wembley vs. China but how much did we really learn about the Lioness squad? Sara sings Georgia Stanway's praises and a debate about attendance arises. Episode edited by Mike Adams @monkeyhillmedia. Follow us on socials @thewososhow Learn more about your ad choices. Spain are going to the World Cup! It has always seemed like a formality, but Luis de la Fuente's side officially secured their spot with a draw in their final qualifier against Turkey. Before focusing on Tuesday's game, Ben Sully (@SullyBen) and Paco Polit (@pacopolitENG) kick off the podcast by focusing on Spain's commanding 4-0 away win over Georgia on Saturday. After winning their first five qualifiers by a combined 19-0 scoreline, Spain would have been hoping to secure qualification with a win in their home game against Turkey. We delve into the 2-2 draw before rounding off part one by focusing on Spain's striker situation and Dani Olmo's status in the squad. In part two, we reflect on a positive 2025 for La Roja and look ahead to next year's tournament in the USA, Mexico and Canada, discussing whether Spain have what it takes to add another star to their jersey. Away from international matters, Barcelona are finally set to return to their redeveloped Camp Nou home while Levante and Valencia are preparing to lock horns in a highly anticipated derby fixture.Remember, you can access all of our written and audio content over at lllonline.substack.com. Kevin, Grayson, and The Chief discuss the impact of the international break on player momentum, particularly with USMNT and Miles Robinson. Then there's the coaching change expected to happen with the Columbus Crew. Throw in a little talk on the differences in reverence for stadiums between the NFL and soccer, the financial value of soccer teams compared to NFL franchises, and the future of players like Max Arfsten in European leagues. Then in Part Two it's Patreon Questions about strategies against Messi, the significance of upcoming matches, and somehow talk about a hypothetical And1 Mixtape tour for MLS. Josh and Dan discuss expansion in the USL W League, the USL League One playoff picture, and then take a quick tour of European leagues returning to soccer after the International break.
For our sanity, we opted not to really talk much about the Orlando Pride's 1-1 Concacaf W Champions Cup draw against Pachuca last week, aside from discussing our opinion of the way squad rotation made things more difficult for both matches rather than more difficult for one and less difficult for the other. However, we were happy to discuss the Pride's wild 3-2 win at Washington on Saturday afternoon. Kerry Abello was hell bent on putting the ball in every net she could find, both teams scored for the other side, and Marta scored the game winner on a slickly approached penalty. It was the third win in four games and perhaps a sign that Orlando is getting better at the right time. Goals are still difficult to come by without help, but wins are wins and we don't care much how they go in.We looked back at our pessimistic score predictions, discussed all the big moments and players (good and bad), and made our selections for Player of the match. This week's mailbagbox asked us to be more specific with our messaging to Abello, wondered which kind of goal contribution Haley Carter wants from Jacquie Ovalle, and more. Remember, you can ask us anything by hitting us up on Twitter at either @TheManeLand or @SkoPurpSoccer and using the hashtag #AskSkoPurp. You can use that same hashtag and hit @TheManeLand.bsky.social up on Bluesky. Or you can visit our show page, scroll down, and fill out the handy form. We'd also appreciate any ratings or reviews you can leave wherever you get your podcasts, and if you do that on Apple Podcasts, we'll find them easily and read them on the show.Orlando is off this week. Several Pride players won't be, as they return to their national teams for the international break. Hopefully everyone comes back fully fit and ready to finish the regular season strong as the club heads toward the playoffs. If you'd like to support our independent writing and podcasting efforts, we'd love to have you as a subscriber or donor over at our Buy Me a Coffee site. Here's how Episode 106 went down:0:15 – The Pride got a much-needed road win in Washington to keep some positive momentum going in the league, despite crashing out of continental competition with a disappointing home draw.20:11 - The mailbagbox is seriously invested in fully weaponizing Kerry Abello, and the international break is here to wreck Orlando's momentum. We hate that last bit.
