The Man of Action experienced something unexplainable in Daniel Warren Johnson's Transformers #2, which rewired his purpose. Duke #1 lands in shops on December 27th from Image Comics and Skybound Entertainment. It's an exhilarating action-fueled outburst, showcasing two creative talents operating in top form. Joshua Williamson and Tom Reilly trickly navigate the needs of the Hasbro license while challenging nostalgic notions and delivering a compelling, spikey narrative. This is not the beige-colored toy you remember from childhood. Williamson and Reilly's Duke engages a transformative (pun totally intended) decision and there is no stepping back from it. We chat with the creators about their mission statement, how they reduced Duke to his raw essence, and how a childhood fascination with Cobra compelled them toward this comic's execution. While the Transformers and Void Rivals universes are quickly filling up with recognizable characters, the GI Joe comics realm may take more time to shape into your favorite military-based collectible toy line. General Herbert “Hawk” Carlisle became president and chief executive officer of the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) on June 15, 2017. Carlisle came to NDIA after a 39-year career in the Air Force, from which he retired as a four-star general in March 2017. His last assignment was as commander, Air Combat Command (ACC) at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia. Prior to serving as the ACC commander, Carlisle was the Commander of Pacific Air Forces, the Air Component Commander for U.S. Pacific Command, and Executive Director of the Pacific Air Combat Operations Staff at the Joint Base Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. Carlisle has served in various operational and staff assignments throughout the Air Force and commanded a fighter squadron, an operations group, two wings, and a numbered air force. He was a joint service officer and served as chief of air operations, U.S. Central Command Forward in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. During that time, he participated in Operation Restore Hope in Somalia. He also participated in Operation Provide Comfort in Turkey and Operation Noble Eagle, which continues. Carlisle served as director of operational planning, policy, and strategy, deputy chief of staff for air, space and information operations, plans, and requirements, and twice in the plans and programs directorate. He also served as deputy director and later director of legislative liaison at the Office of the Secretary of the Air Force. Carlisle is a command pilot with more than 3,600 flying hours in the AT-38, YF-110, YF-113, T-38, F-15A/B/C/D, and C-17A. And since we can’t always be right, it seems a couple of our predictions on this episode fell short. But at the very least you can hear the (what we think are) reasonable-reason-ings behind our theories in regards to a few of the Retaliation figures that were released into the wild unexpectedly. That being said, clocking in at over two hours and armed with a mighty 100-plus images… I’m sure we’ve got something besides rabbits and felled predictions in our hats as we conjure up: - an unproduced ARBCO play set! - an unproduced version of General Hawk! - confirm the answer to the mostly-unanswered 25 year old mystery of Low-Light's leg! - - and we use our crystal ball to peer into where the past meets the future as we bring you in-hand images of the unreleased 30th Anniversary Night-Viper and Crimson Guard who are slated for resurrection in Wave 5 of Retaliation! Speaking of crystal balls...we take in a stray as renowned GI JOE customizer and Crystal Ball hoarder, Brian "nova" Kauffman, not only joins us as a guest host, but agrees to come on full-time as a regular, resident host on the podcast!
