More than 20 years ago Umberto Eco singled out “the quest for ancient timbres and classical echoes” that contributed, alongside “original inventions” to the special character of Gianluigi Trovesi's art. The clarinets and saxophone of the reedman from Italy's Lombardy region have spoken a sort of polyglot tongue almost from the outset, and each of his ECM albums has differently combined, contrasted and blended ingredients of diverse idioms.Track Listing:1 Dido and Aeneas - The Witches Dance2 Dissolvenze convergenti3 Consonanze stravaganti4 For A While5 Missa 'L'homme arme' - Kyrie I6 L'ometto disarmato7 Dido and Aeneas - Dido's Lament 'When I Am laid in Earth'8 The Gordian Knot Unty'd - Ouverture9 Sonata decima sopra 'Cavalletto zoppo'10 Suave Melodia11 Karaib's Berger12 Dido and Aeneas - The Triumphing Dance13 De vous abandoner14 Mille Regretz15 BergheimHelp support our show by purchasing this album at:Downloads (classicalmusicdiscoveries.store) Classical Music Discoveries is sponsored by Uber. @CMDHedgecock#ClassicalMusicDiscoveries #KeepClassicalMusicAlive#LaMusicaFestival #CMDGrandOperaCompanyofVenice #CMDParisPhilharmonicinOrléans#CMDGermanOperaCompanyofBerlin#CMDGrandOperaCompanyofBarcelonaSpain#ClassicalMusicLivesOn#Uber Please consider supporting our show, thank you!Donate (classicalmusicdiscoveries.store) staff@classicalmusicdiscoveries.com This album is broadcasted with the permission of Crossover Media Music Promotion (Zachary Swanson and Amanda Bloom). Welcome to the second half of the England-Italy jazz rematch. England and Italy have both championed jazz very early on, and they have been among the first European jazz scenes to develop a recognizable accent in how they speak the jazz language, light-heartedness and sense of humour being integral aspects of that accent. Even though Italian and English sound quite different as languages, their two jazz accents are surprisingly similar in how they both seem to be characterized by a certain attention to melody. Once more a playlist matching one British musician, band or project, with one from Italy The playlist features Stefano Bollani; Django Bates; First House; 3Quietmen (feat. Stefano Battaglia); Julian Arguelles & Frankfurt Radio Big Band; Pino Minafra; Guy Barker; Fabrizio Bosso, Julian Oliver Mazzariello; Gianluigi Trovesi; John Surman; Colin Towns' Mask Symphonic; Loose Tubes; Italian Instabile Orchestra. Hooray - we've made it alive through 2020 and through eight seasons of this podcast, too. To celebrate the big "eighth" (the internet claims it's bronze and pottery for that anniversary, should you want to send gifts) we talk about half that many jazz octets, and throw in an album named after a funky sea-creature as a bonus. In pop matters, Harry Nilsson's alternate takes and Italian prog get brief look-ins. Gianluigi Trovesi Octet- FROM G TO G; Alan Wakeman – THE OCTET BROADCASTS 1969 AND 1979; Paul Jackson – BLACK OCTOPUS; Rod Levitt –DYNAMIC SOUND PATTERNS; Paul Dunmall Octet – BEBOP STARBURST.
