Tell us what you think of this episodeIn this episode we bring together two Andrews. One is Andrew Hignell, curator of the museum of welsh cricket and Andrew Renton who is ex-curator at Amgueddfa Cymru, The National Museum of Wales.Together, they tell the story of a small china cup that was made at the Nantgarw China works at some time between 1820 and 1822. The dates here are important because the artefact may be the earliest known sporting artefact in Wales. It depicts a cricketing scene and was decorated by a well known artist who had made a living painting china and porcelain. His name was Thomas Pardoe.Andrew Renton makes mention of several places in South Wales where you can see examples of and learn about the porcelain industry in south wales. Hello and welcome to a new solo RPG series, switching up tone completely and exploring the wonderfully cozy journaling game Koriko: A Magical Year by Jack Harrison & Mousehole Press, creators of other incredible solo games like Artefact, Orbital, and Bucket of Bolts (Jack also did layout for Notorious & Outsiders, so clearly he knows what he's doing)! Koriko is a game about a teenage witch leaving their home village to spend one year in a new city where they will work their craft, expand their horizons, and learn to be the witch they are destined to become. Very obviously paying homage to its inspirations, Koriko is a beautiful book in both art and writing, and I'm very excited to break away from my usual method of solo journaling strictly through audio to actually write in a journal to create the incredible artifact that sticking to this ritual will become. Volume 1: Departure introduces Eugenia "Genie" Finch, our young witch with excellent style, wild ginger hair, and a three-eyed mink familiar named Mog who is leaving her northern forests village of Bonetto to find somewhere new. Hello dear listeners and welcome back to the One Guy One Roll podcast where I have a new One Shot for y'all today. Unlike the first One Shot, where I played the wonderful game Artefact by Mousehole Press, I have decided to split this ‘One Shot' into different sessions so the episodes stay within the standard time constraints of the main show. My intention was to limit the amount of editing required while making this kind of content so just be aware that this content is likely to not be as carefully manicured as the main show. During this first episode of Ronin I have nothing but positive opinions about the system and I hope everyone enjoys listening to it as much as I have enjoyed recording it. Anyways, please sit back, relax and enjoy the story of Ginjiro as we explore the exciting world of Sengoku era Japan. Thank you so very much for taking the time to listen to the One Guy One Roll podcast! Your continued interest keeps me motivated to continue to produce content. In this episode, hosts Katherine Troyer and Toni Tresca grab their camping gear and head to the woods (metaphorically of course...Katherine is very allergic to nature) as they discuss the 1988 horror slasher film Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood. Episode Highlights: We celebrate the arrival of Kane Hodder as Jason even as we question why the film is called "THE New Blood." We explore the film's premise of Jason vs. Carrie and the ways that this storyline creates an interesting final girl for a franchise lacking its own Laurie or Nancy. And we talk about the weirdness of the film's conclusion, particularly as the ghost of the once abusive father becomes the hero to save Tina, and how this narrative twist situates the film firmly in the affirmative camp. A Dose of Scholarship: We return to Horror Homeroom's special issue on Friday the 13th. In particular, we discuss Todd K. Platts' article "'It's Worth Recognizing Only as an Artefact of Our Culture:' Critics and the Friday the 13th Franchise (1980-2001)." And we continue to rely on Wickham Clayton's invaluable scholarly contribution to this franchise with his 202 book SEE! HEAR! CUT! KILL! Experiencing Friday the 13th. This podcast episode first aired on March 30, 2023. Our outstanding editor Jackson O'Brien is amazing...thank you Jackson! Hello dear listeners and welcome back to the One Guy One Roll podcast where I have something quite different to present to y'all today. I felt like I needed to take a bit of a break from working on Ironsworn: Starforged (don't worry we will be back into the story of Nikora soon) and decided to start up a new project I am calling One Guy One Roll One Shots. These will all be called Season 0 and I really had a great time with this different kind of format. Just be aware that these One Shots don't have any time constraints and are also more rough cut than the main show. My intention was to limit the amount of editing required while making this kind of content so just be aware that this episode is not as carefully manicured as the main show. I have nothing but high praises for Artefact and I highly recommend the system for anyone that is even slightly interested in solo RPGs and want to experience something that honestly made me feel real emotion and connection to my artifact, a staff known as The Rainstick. I hope that everyone enjoys this considerably different content than usual! Thank you so very much for taking the time to listen to the One Guy One Roll podcast! Phoenix frontman Thomas Mars subscribes to Ed Ruscha's philosophy on art—that it should prompt bewilderment or even disgust before appreciation. And not the reverse. This can be applied to the French band's music. Consider their latest album Alpha Zulu, the title seems odd but dig a little and it reveals a salient truth for Thomas. Together with his friends and bandmates Deck D'Arcy, Christian Mazzalai and Laurent Brancowitz the foursome started the songwriting for this, their seventh album, after the death of their dearest friend, producer Philippe Zdar—who was crucial in helming their breakthrough 2009 album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. Less than a year later, they would find themselves in the midst of a pandemic and then the California fires. Listen to find out how writing Alpha Zulu became a way for them to manifest the light at the end of the tunnel. Many thanks for making this possible — Thomas, for telling us that he's been cutting his own hair since he was 11! Thank you to Glassnote Records and Loyauté for permission to use songs.
