In the national conversation about abortion rights, the voices of actual abortion providers are often unheard. Dr. Curtis Boyd was involved in establishing the National Abortion Federation (NAF) and is a founding member of the Federation's board of directors; and Glenna Boyd, RN, is a counselor, trainer and consultant. They join host Krys Boyd to discuss their life's work providing abortions for women in need, why they say a healthy democracy needs compromise on complex issues, and how the Dobbs decision felt like a death. Their book is “We Choose To: A Memoir of Providing Abortion Care Before, During, and After Roe.”

Joe McGee has been around golf most of his life. He's seen and done almost everything and we discuss that in today's show. Originally from Clinton, SC Joe came to Hilton Head island at the rigging of a fraternity brother, to become an assistant golf pro at Harbour Town GL. Not long after he was recruited to help get the famous Secession GC started and spent more then two decades at the iconic club doing everything from answering phones, to cutting grass, to running one of the most successful caddie programs in the nation. After moving on from Secession, Joe found himself at another Lowcountry gem, Old Tabby Links on Spring Island. Joe always seems to find himself at very fine clubs, each distinctly different but all contributing to his skill development that has led him to be one of the most gracious and finest people in golf. Joe is scheduled to retire in the spring of 2025 where he plans to embark on learning fly fishing, hanging out in Key West, Florida and enjoying life to the fullest. In 1975, after Manson Family member Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme's attempt to kill President Gerald Ford, the FBI found a cache of letters in the would-be assassin's Sacramento apartment. The return address belonged to future forensic psychologist Jeffrey Smalldon, then a young undergraduate.A decade later, after the shocking murders of two co-workers, Smalldon's quest to understand the twisted minds and motivations of killers became personal in a way it never had been before.THAT BEAST WAS NOT ME documents five decades of conversations with murderers like John Wayne Gacy, Charles Manson, Ted Bundy, serial sniper Thomas Lee Dillon, and Donald Harvey—then thought to be the most prolific serial killer in American history. Through letters, prison visits, and interviews, Smalldon gives readers a terrifying look into the darkest recesses of the human psyche. The events of April 25, 1974 have left an indelible mark on the history of Portugal and Europe. That evening, a group of 200 left-leaning young Portuguese military captains walked out of their barracks and occupied strategic locations. Tired of the ravages of the dictatorship and colonisation, they won the active support of the people. The uprising was nicknamed the Carnation Revolution after the flowers that protesters placed in the soldiers' guns and tanks, in a rare example of a military coup being staged to install democracy. The dictatorship collapsed in a single day. But 50 years on, Portugal's old demons are surfacing. Chega, a populist xenophobic party, quadrupled its number of MPs in March's elections. In less than five years, it has become the country's third-largest political force. FRANCE 24's Céline Schmitt and Clara Le Nagard report, with Sarah Morris.

Regina LaFrance returns with a candid reflection on her path to healing, a beacon of hope for those grappling with their own shadows. Our latest episode takes an intimate look at Regina's story of transformation, beginning with her courageous act of writing a book that not only narrates her personal journey but also serves as a cathartic release from her traumatic past. Through the eyes of her fictional character, Shayla, Regina exposes a history marred by abuse and the crushing burden of silence that so often accompanies it. Her experience, heartbreakingly common yet uniquely her own, unveils the dark consequences of molestation and the incredible resilience and faith required to overcome them. Listen as Regina shares the tumultuous chapters of her life that she bravely lended to her fictional character, Shayla, from the painful reality of aborting a foetus conceived during molestation at age 10, to her bold move to the United States at 18, where she pursued a life of purpose and passion. As Regina recounts her educational triumphs and professional milestones, the conversation illuminates the profound effects of trauma on self-esteem and the relentless pursuit of belonging. Her journey is punctuated by the discovery of self-love and the significant role of mentorship in her life, shedding light on the necessity of supportive networks and positive influences for those in the throes of healing. Concluding this powerful exchange, Regina's story bends toward the hopeful horizon of protection and advocacy for children. Her commitment to spreading a message of self-empowerment and her emphasis on the role of forgiveness in the healing process resonate deeply. As we wrap up, we're left with a lasting impression of Regina's strength and a reminder of the indomitable human spirit. Her experience is a roadmap for survivors and a call to action for all of us to foster love and forgiveness in our world, as well as active listening of our children. When our children are pleading to not go to a certain person or a certain environment, they may be fending for themselves without telling you the truth of what they experienced, and they may not even have the words to express such traumatic experiences when this is what it is about. Regina invites all parents to actively listen and open their heart to receiving these cues that something may be off with our children, when that's the case. Regina's bio Regina LaFrance is the author of SHAYLA, the new semi-autobiographical novel inspired by real events that deals with child abuse and finding emotional freedom. An incredible journey that reads like a movie! Regina's book is a calling and a movement dedicated to survivors of abuse. To learn more, also visit her website: https://www.lafrancemedia.com With sensitivity to the alarming rate of more children being abused each year, a light needs to be shed on this tragic abuse epidemic. Regina's timely story is one of the “too many” who have suffered. And when one suffers, we all suffer. Her story is their story—where the truth is stranger than fiction that sometimes follows our precious young home, all too often. She then welcomes the amazing Michael Ingram of Bedford Heights Daycare, founded by his mom five decades ago. Michael discusses the impact that he and his mom have had on thousands of families in and around Cleveland, his drive to serve and give back to his community, and the things that set his program apart. Michael talks about the power of manifestation and mentorship, the beauty of stillness, and how he grew the confidence to take his business to the next level with the support of the Academy as a foundational piece. Michael is delighted that one summer job turned into a 22-year profession, and in this interview, you will learn why. Key Takeaways: [8:35] Michael joins the show from Ohio and discusses more about Bedford Heights Daycare Center, or BHDC. They are going into their 50th year and have 125 students, ranging from 18 months through 13 years old. [11:13] One summer for Michael turned into 22 years. He talks about how his mom's legacy in the school shaped his experience, and that she now still does what she loves while making a giant impact. [12:06] The turning point for Michael was when he started to look at it as a business and see how he helped his community. [14:31] Fun Fact: Michael is a yoga teacher and has traveled to India on an Ayurvedic retreat. [19:49] Michael manifested finding a therapy partner and providing additional support to children including ABA therapy, speech, OT, and social-emotional health services. [41:17] Michael shares a beautiful Sanskrit Mantra. Quotes: “My mom was an original girl boss when it maybe wasn't as cool to be a girl boss.” — Michael [9:35] “It's seeing the direct impacts that we could have on the community and how knowing our numbers and knowing how to fill the seats would not only make a beautiful life for us but also support all of the employees that we have in our building and support our families. So, that was probably the turning point in my journey in the childcare space.” — Michael [12:35] “I came in just thinking it was going to be a layover on a journey elsewhere. It's afforded me an amazing life and has allowed me to give back to the community.” — Michael [13:19] “I just think that when you give back, things come back twofold.” — Michael [13:48] “It's knowing that I don't have to do everything and that I can hand things off and empower others to make those amazing things happen.” — Michael [27:14] “If you're on that hot mess express and you're not sure if you should join the Academy, you need to run and find the nearest coach. It will not only grow you as a person, but it will allow your business to just bloom.” — Michael [36:30] “The biggest strength of the academy is the positivity. We're celebrating the winning culture and instead of complaining, we are celebrating.” — Kris [39:10] “When setting out on a journey, never seek advice from those who have never left home.” — Rumi [40:06] Sponsored By: ChildCare Education Institute (CCEI) Use the code CCSC5 to claim a free course! It has been 50 years since Chile's military junta came to power. On September 11, 1973, the army headed by General Augusto Pinochet launched a coup with the US' covert backing. Soldiers took over the presidential palace, ousting leftist President Salvador Allende, who committed suicide. Pinochet then stayed in power for 17 years, a period of dictatorship that saw more than 3,000 people killed or missing and around 200,000 fleeing into exile. Even today, the constitution that was tailor-made for him in 1980 is still in force, although there are lively debates about amending it. FRANCE 24's Juliette Chaignon and Guillaume Gosalbes report.
