The Calvary Chapel Church has been formed as a fellowship of believers in the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Our supreme desire is to know Christ and be conformed into His image by the power of the Holy Spirit. We are not a denominational church, nor are we opposed to denominations as such, only their over-emphasis of doctrinal differences that have led to the division of the body of Christ. Calvary Chapel Natomas is an affiliate of Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa and has been established through Calvary Chapel Amador. We believe the Bible to be the inspired, infallible, authoritative Word of God. Therefore, our ministry emphasizes the exposition of God's Word from Genesis to Revelation. We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe in the Deity of Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His promised return in power and glory. We believe that repentance from sin and acceptance of Jesus as Lord and Savior is the only way to come into a relationship with God. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by Whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life; we further believe His power and gifts are available to believers today.

Sermon Audio
Jude's letter provides a model for Godly worship in the form of confession, song, prayer, and proclamation in his final words. Verse 24-25 of his epistle contain one of the most beloved doxologies of the church. Though brief in its expression, this salutation of praise draws deeply from the wells of scriptural revelation for its inspiration. Jude is moved to magnify the Lord on account of 1.) The fullness of salvation (Last sermon from this text) 2.) The nature of God (our message today) and 3.) Attributions worthy of God (our final message and epistle overview to come). Today we seek to appreciate the rich implications of God's self disclosure especially as they relate to the work of redemption. Certainly Jude would be greatly encouraged to hear that the recipients of his letter found this doxology struck a chord in their own hearts. A church who appreciates the fullness of salvation and the holiness of God will be well equipped to discern and oppose anything or anyone who would seek to diminish or deny the glory, majesty, dominion, and authority of the only true God condescending to us in Jesus Christ and His gospel.

Discussion of the Love of God - Jude 20,21
The judgment of God is a hard topic to think about. It can often be used in manipulative ways and weaponized against people. It can also seem contradictory to God's message of love and welcome. For these reasons, we can often want to avoid Scriptures that speak about God's judgment. But what if correctly understanding the truth about God's judgment was a path toward experiencing even more profound levels of His love? What if part of why we can live in guilt and shame is because we don't understand God's judgment and how that connects to His love? Join us as we explore these things in Jude 5-7 and see The Love of God in the Judgment of God.
Listen along as we look at Jude's letter on Christmas Eve. Jude:1-3 - Jeff Orsburn Jude 1:1-3 In the church, this is the season of Advent. It's superficially understood as a time to get ready for Christmas, but in truth it's the season for contemplating the judgment of God. Advent is the season that, when properly understood, does not flinch from the darkness that stalks us all in this world. Advent begins in the dark and moves toward the light—but the season should not move too quickly or too glibly, lest we fail to acknowledge the depth of the darkness. Advent bids us take a fearless inventory of the darkness: the darkness without and the darkness within. - Fleming Rutledge “Every time you feel hurt, offended, or rejected, you have to dare to say to yourself: “These feelings, strong as they may be, are not telling me the truth about myself. The truth, even though I cannot feel it right now, is that I am the chosen child of God, precious in God's eyes, called the Beloved from all eternity, and held safe in an everlasting embrace.” Henri Nouwen Jude 1:17-23 We think of him as safe beneath the steeple, Or cosy in a crib beside the font, But he is with a million displaced people On the long road of weariness and want. For even as we sing our final carol His family is up and on that road, Fleeing the wrath of someone else's quarrel, Glancing behind and shouldering their load. Whilst Herod rages still from his dark tower Christ clings to Mary, fingers tightly curled, The lambs are slaughtered by the men of power, And death squads spread their curse across the world. But every Herod dies, and comes alone To stand before the Lamb upon the throne. Malcom Guite Jude 1:24-25 The entire thrust of this season at the end of the church year is designed to bring us face-to-face with reality—reality about sin and death, reality about the human race, reality about God. Something ultimate has entered our world, something or Someone that calls us to attention, calls us out of our daily preoccupations and our routine points of view. That is what this season with its special biblical readings is designed to reveal - Fleming Rutledge

"Wrapped Up in the Love of God" Jude 1-2 by Dr. Gary L. Shultz, Senior Pastor, on January 16, 2022, at FBCTLH
Jude really throws down the gauntlet to those individuals who were teaching a message that actually turned the grace of God into lasciviousness, or a license for an immoral lifestyle that defies and denies the truth of God's Word and God's ways (Jude v4). Under the inspiration of The Holy Spirit, Jude likens these grace-abusers to the apostates in Egypt, the fallen angels, and Sodom and Gomorrah (vv 5-7). He then pronounces a woe unto them because they have “gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Korah.” (v11) It is hard to imagine that they were actually teaching these ungodly and sick things in “The Name” of a Holy God. But sadly, their ear-ticking, flesh-feeding message was far more popular than the deny yourself, pick up your cross and mortify the deeds of the flesh that was the practical application of the true message of the grace of God. “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” (Titus 2:11-14)After giving these strong and sobering rebukes to those false teachers and their followers who were seeking to undermine the flock of God with this doctrine of devils, The Holy Spirit proclaims comforting words to those saints who were fighting the good fight of faith. He twice addresses them as God's beloved, or those who are loved of God (Jude vv17, 20). These are those who are accepted in The Beloved (Ephesians 1:6). Listen to The Spirit's words with me, dear church family: “But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ; How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts. These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit. But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.” (Jude vv17-21) Precious admonitions! One, remember that the apostles warned us about those who would seek to infiltrate the church with their lewd teaching in “The Name of Jesus”. Two, build yourselves up in your most holy faith. The saving faith of Jesus Christ is a holy faith. It is a faith that knows and believes that God loves us and is merciful towards us.Lest we think that we will never be able to measure up to the task of contending for the faith, let me leave with some of the most comforting promises of God for His people that need no further comment. “Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Savior, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.” (vv24-25) Selah

Dec. 22, 2021 - Keep Yourselves in the Love of God Pastor Ed Taylor Study #6505 - Jude 1:20-25 JUDE
Today, Wednesday December 01 Focus on Jesus Christ Jude 1:24-25 “Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, And to present you faultless Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, To God our Savior, Who alone is wise, Be glory and majesty, Dominion and power, Both now and forever. Amen.” Jude has been describing the apostates and false teacher in order for us to identify them and know what their true motives are. It is not a pretty picture! They are hypocrites, liars, mockers, murmurers, complainers, deceivers, sensual, and use innocent young immature believers to their own benefit and laugh and brag about it as they do it. Then Jude gave us four instructions on what we should do in response: We should remember the Word of God (vs. 17-19), we need to build up our Christian life (vs. 20-21), we must exercise spiritual discernment (22-23), and lastly, we should commit and yield ourselves to the Lord Jesus Christ (vs. 24-25). When we come to these last two verses that close this little epistle, it is if Jude is saying, “I've focused enough on these false teachers, now I want you focus on the Lord Jesus Christ, Who He is and what He is doing for you! The writer to Hebrews put it this way, ”But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone.” (Hebrews 2:9) And, “Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:2) It is so easy to get distracted with the garbage and evil of the world around us and forget who we are in Christ and what He is doing for presently and what His great plan for us in the future is! Jude here gives us one of most famous benedictions in the Bible to help us “refocus”! This well-known benediction contains a wealth of spiritual truth for the believer to receive. If we want to keep our feet on the ground spiritually, walk straight, and not stumble, then we must yield ourselves fully to the Savior. He alone is able to guard us, but we must "keep ourselves in the love of God" (Jude 21). He is able if we are willing! Jude was not writing about the possibility of the believer sinning and falling from God's family. We have noted before that he made it clear in Jude 1 that true believers are "preserved" and cannot be lost. He was writing about the believer's daily walk with the Lord and the danger of going astray and stumbling. If we do disobey God, we may confess our sins and receive His forgiveness (1 John 1:9). If we persist in disobedience, He will chasten us in love (Heb. 12:5-11). But He will never permit one of His own to be lost. The Father has covenanted with the Son that all of His people will one day see and share His glory (John 17:22-24). Jesus Christ will have the special joy of presenting His bride, the church, before the Father's throne! The purpose of salvation is not simply to rescue sinners from hell, as wonderful as that is. The grand purpose is that God may be glorified for all eternity (Eph. 1:6, 12, 14). Today, take heart and look up! And be encouraged with this great promise from Jude! God bless!
Today, Friday November 26 “Keep Yourselves in the Love of God” Jude 1:20-21 “But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.” Jude is exhorting his readers to stand and not to be stumbling over the lies and deceitfulness of the apostates, and the false teachers. He gives us several things to think about and to do if we are to continue to be faithful and steadfast in our “faith”. We are to remember the Word that was given to us from the Lord! We are also to be growing and building up our lives on that Word, the Holy Spirit. And it is also very important that we pray! The power for building the Christian life comes from prayer. This "building process" in the Christian life involves the Word of God, the Spirit of God, and prayer. But these things, as precious as they are, can become somewhat routine; so Jude added another factor: abiding in God's love (Jude 21). He did not write, "Keep yourselves saved!" because he had already assured them that they were "preserved in Jesus Christ" (Jude 1). Jude wrote, "Keep yourselves in the love of God." Our Lord made a similar statement recounted in John 15:9, "Continue you in My love." To love God and keep yourself in His love means much more than to enjoy a special kind of feeling. Of course, as we grow in grace, we do experience deeper fellowship with the Father (John 14:21-24), and we do have times when He seems very near. The Bible compares this to the love of a husband and wife (Eph. 5:22). Any happily married couple can tell you that love deepens over the years. But it takes more than ecstatic feelings to make a successful marriage—or a successful Christian life! There must also be obedience and mutual concern. "But whoso keeps His Word, in him truly is the love of God perfected" (1 John 2:5). "If ye keep My commandments, you shall abide in My love" (John 15:10). We grow in our love for God as we listen to His Word, obey it, and delight in doing what pleases Him. That is how we keep ourselves in God's love. God's love is a holy love; it is not shallow sentiment. "Ye that love the Lord, hate evil" (Ps. 97:10). To love God is to love what He loves and hate what He hates! We please Him by doing those things that He commands. It is the dedicated, separated Christian who enjoys the deepest fellowship with the Father in the family (2 Cor. 6:14-18). To “keep yourself in the love of God” also means that you reject the lies of the devil when he whispers in your ear that God doesn't really love you. Satan will tell you if God really loved you, these bad things would not have happened to you! Satan wants you to believe that if God loved you He would not have so much restraint upon your life. He would not be withholding you from having a good time or having whatever you think you want! Your response and answer to this lie of the devil is to constantly remind yourself, that God, once and for all, proved His love to you by sending His Son to die on the cross in your place. (John 3:16) My friend, “keeping yourself in the love of God” means that you keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, remembering how He suffered and died for you on an old rugged cross two-thousand years ago! (Hebrews 12:1-4) God's love is eternal and never fails and you won't be stumbling, failing or falling when you “keep yourself in the love of God!” God Bless!
Today, Thursday September 23 Jesus, Our Great Protector 1 John 5:16-18 If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask, and God will give him life—to those who commit sins that do not lead to death. There is sin that leads to death; I do not say that one should pray for that. All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin that does not lead to death. We know that everyone who has been born of God does not keep on sinning, but he who was born of God protects him, and the evil one does not touch him. Yesterday we discussed that we as Christians face three enemies, all of which want to lead us into sin: the world, the flesh, and the devil. From this passage we know that believers should not habitually live in sin. So, how do we as believers keep from sinning? First John 5:18 gives the answer: Jesus Christ keeps the believer so that the enemy cannot get his hands on him. "He [Christ] who was born of God keeps him [the believer] and the evil one does not touch him". The Authorized Version here gives the impression that a believer keeps himself from sin, but this is not what the verse says. Of course, it is true that a Christian must keep himself in the love of God (Jude 21); but it is not true that a Christian must depend on himself to overcome Satan. Jesus is the only One who faced Satan and his temptations and successfully overcame them. The Scriptures teach us that on the cross, Jesus defeated the devil and fulfilled the first promise in the Bible given to Adam and Eve concerning the coming Messiah who would defeat Satan. Genesis 3:15, “I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.” When Jesus was crucified, as He crushed the head of Satan, only His heel was bruised. Jesus had told His disciples, “In this world you will face trials and temptations, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” Our victory in always found in Christ and His finish work on the Cross!!!!! Peter's experience with Satan helps us to understand this truth. "Simon, Simon," said Jesus, "behold, Satan has demanded permission to sift you like wheat; but I have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail; and you, when once you have turned again, strengthen your brothers" (Luke 22:31-32). To begin with, Satan cannot touch any believer without God's permission. Satan wanted to sift all the disciples, and Jesus gave him permission. But Jesus prayed especially for Peter, and His prayer was answered. Peter's faith did not ultimately fail, even though his courage failed. Peter was restored and became a mighty and effective soul-winner. Whenever Satan attacks us, we can be sure that God gave him permission. And if God gave him permission, He will also give us power to overcome, because God will never permit us to be tested above our strength (1 Cor. 10:13). One of the characteristics of "spiritual young men" is their ability to overcome the evil one (1 John 2:13-14). Their secret? "The word of God abides in you" (1 John 2:14). Part of the armor of God is the sword of the Spirit (Eph. 6:17), and this sword overcomes Satan. When a believer sins, he can confess his sin and be forgiven (1 John 1:9). But a believer dare not play with sin, because sin is lawlessness (1 John 3:4). A person who practices sin proves that he belongs to Satan (1 John 3:7-10). Furthermore, God warns that sin can lead to physical death! That's what we will discuss tomorrow! Today, put your faith and trust in our Great Protector, Jesus Christ! God bless!
Jude v. 24 & 25 is the doxology of the book, our last verses. Jude is letting us exhale and worship God for all that He has done for us. Now it is our turn to write a doxology- Host Cass shows us how praising God defeats all our demons. (Doxology format: Addressee, Honor, Duration and Response)
“Keep yourself in the love of God” (Jude 1:21). How? By knowing and being obedient to His Word. The basis of faith is your love for God. It's you standing on the virtue of God's love, believing in God's Word, and living in God's Word. Faith without virtue love for God is nothing (1 Cor 13:1-13). Reciprocal love motivation is mandated in the Bible. “We love God because He first loved us” (1 John 4:19). Our virtue love for God is personal and based on His character and essence. God did not send you to handle His affairs. We were sent to lift up Christ, to re-present Christ. When you fail to focus on the divine solutions then you fail to remember the unfailing love and justice of God. Jude, the brother of James, is warning the church about those who are constantly trying to destroy the work of Jesus Christ. He said they had crept in unnoticed. They had already been called out in times past. Jude reminds the church, God's people, of their history and how God did not spare them when they turned to false gods. He reminded them of Sodom and Gomorrah, because of their behavior, going after strange flesh. He said many of these men where like, Clouds without water, autumn trees without fruit, casting up their own shame like foam. We are told to keep ourselves in the love of God. To have mercy on those who have fallen away and are struggling. As Christians, we can be such an instrument of change for many people, who otherwise are heading toward destruction and hell.
