What Romney's Mormon Relative Says

This is a special Real Science Radio program. * Bill Keller, Gregg Jackson & Bob Enyart: These three Christian activists present some of the uglier aspects of Mitt Romney's Mormonism including the cult's longtime claim, as reiterated by Marion Romney at the LDS General Conference, that Mormonism uniquely teaches that God the Father was once a man who grew up on a planet similar to Earth. Weird and heretical. * God the Father was Once a Man said Brigham Young: "The idea that the Lord our God is not a personage of tabernacle [body] is entirely a mistaken notion. He was once a man. Brother Kimball quoted a saying of Joseph [Smith] the Prophet, that he would not worship a God who had not a Father... He [God] once possessed a body, as we now do..." -President & Prophet Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 9 see exmormon.org * More Brigham Young: "...the Father of Heights... Yes, he was once a man like you and I are and was once on an earth like this, passed through the ordeal you and I pass through. He had his father and his mother and he has been exalted through his faithfulness, and he is become Lord of all. He is the God pertaining to this earth. He is our Father." -President & Prophet Brigham Young, 14 July 1861 see exmormon.org * Mormon Prophet and President Lorenzo Snow: "I had a direct revelation of this. ... If there ever was a thing revealed to man perfectly, clearly, so that there could be no doubt or dubiety, this was revealed to me, and it came in these words: "As man now is, God once was; as God now is, man may be." - President & Prophet Lorenzo R. Snow, Unchangeable Love of God see exmormon.org * Mitt Romney's Second Cousin Once Removed: "...like begets like [i.e., reproduction after its kind; an organism begets similar organisms] and that for the offspring to grow to the stature of his parent is a process infinitely repeated in nature. We can therefore understand that for a son of God to grow to the likeness of his Father in heaven is in harmony with natural law... This is the way it will be with spirit sons of God. They will grow up to be like their Father in heaven. Joseph [Smith] taught this obvious truth. As a matter of fact, he taught that through this process God himself attained perfection. From President Snow's understanding of the teachings of the Prophet on this doctrinal point, he coined the familiar couplet: "As man is, God once was; as God is, man may become." This teaching is peculiar to the [LDS] restored gospel of Jesus Christ." -Elder Marion G. Romney, General Conference, October 1964 see exmormon.org * Mormonism Falsely Claims that Indians are Jews: One of the central claims of the Book of Mormon is that American Indians, including Aztecs, Incas, Mayans, Navajos, etc., are Jews. This stunningly false teaching states that some Jews left Jerusalem on ship in 600 B.C. and built a great civilization in the Americas. Also wrongly, "The whole face of the land had become covered with buildings" (Mormon 1:7) including with “fine workmanship… in machinery, and also in iron and copper, and brass and steel, making all manner of tools” (Jarom 1:8; 2 Nephi 5:15) with “silks… oxen… cows… sheep… horses… donkeys… elephants…” (Ether 9:17-19) and "shipping and their building of ships, and of synagogues" and “swords… shields… head-plates… armor…” (Alma 43:18-19; Ether 15:15). None of this is true. * BEL Mormon Prediction: Regardless of their intensive ancestry effort (to identify and baptize the dead), and despite the extraordinary power of DNA to help identify ancestry, Bob Enyart predicts that the LDS Church will never fund a research project to prove the Jewish ancestry of American Indians. An African tribe, the Lembas, have long been believed to be descendants of the Jews, for they circumcise, keep the Sabbath and the dietary law, and in their DNA they possess the Jewish genetic marker, being perhaps the descendants of King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba. DNA research has begun to show and will continue to show that American Indians are not related to the Jews, nor closely related to any Semitic peoples or the descendants of Shem, but rather, that they are primarily of Hamitic stock, from Asian people, having migrated to the Americas not by saiiling the Atlantic but by crossing the Bering Straight. * No Cities, No Money: While the historical existence of hundreds of cities mentioned in the Bible has been confirmed (97% of them so far), not one of the 38 cities mentioned by Joseph Smith in the Book of Mormon have been found by any notable secular historian or archaeologist. And while every coin in the Bible has been found and documented, none of the monetary units described in the Book of Mormon have ever been found. * If You Fear Obama, You'll Vote for Romney; If You Fear God, You Won't: Don't fear Obama. Fear God, for that is the beginning of wisdom! Besides, Obama is Romney-lite. And because Romney has already implemented policies that are so destructive that Obama only dreams of accomplishing such things, therefore, a vote for Romney is a vote for Obama. Today's Resource: Meet the Apostle John. He was the youngest of the Twelve. And at the time of this writing, he's now one of the last remaining. If you were an eyewitness to Christ's earthly ministry, what would concern you decades after the resurrection? From the battles that John fought we can learn lessons that will help us as we ourselves fight for the truth and battle false teaching within the church. By looking at "the things that differ," we can know what details in John's three epistles applied to the circumcision believers of his day and which of his teachings apply directly to us. In this teaching offered by Gregg Jackson at BLF's 10-year anniversary celebration service, we are encouraged to endure to the end of the journey that God has mapped out for each one of us, even if the journey doesn't always look like we thought it would.  The key word here is TRUST, letting go of the steering wheel and allowing God to drive.  At the end of his teaching, Gregg also offers some prophetic words to certain individuals, which is included here in this recording.

After 374 Sunday’s, this was our final show on WRKO. It has been a great experience. I had many people to thank, starting with Gregg Jackson who pushed me into this crazy idea in the summer of 2004. There are lots of folks at WRKO to thank, from Todd Feinburg to Howie Carr to the great roster of producers, Sandy, Bernie, Producer Rob, Dan the Man, Ed, Horseshack. I don’t have a bad thing to say about WRKO. They gave me a great platform to do what I wanted for 374 weekends, so you won’t hear me complaining or saying they owe me week 375. In fact, I owe them. I very much appreciated what Cooksie did for me, giving me a final show to say goodbye to a loyal group of listeners. That doesn’t always happen in radio, as I’ve seen firsthand, so I very much apprecated that. Thank you to everyone who listened to, supported and contributed to the show. Producer Rob is just one of many people I’ve met from doing the show who will remain friends long into the future. Boston Maggie, Stephanie Davis, Garret Quinn and so many more. Same goes for my last in-studio guest, Chris Selland. I really appreciate his coming in for what was, honestly, a strange show. I want to thank Senator Brown for calling in. He’s been a great friend of the show, calling since his days as a State Rep. It was really touching that he would take time out of his busy schedule to do that. Finally, how can one thank Bruce McQuain for all he has done for Pundit Review Radio? If I’m proud of anything about this experience, it is bringing the Someone You Should Know segment to the radio every Sunday night. Bruce did such an amazing job telling us these inspirational stories because he knows of what he speaks, 28 years in the Army, Vietnam vet. He’s been there and done that. Listening tio these stories every week has been a real education, and an honor. Bruce and I will always remain friends…and who knows….. Book Review: We Won’t Get Fooled Again: Where the Christian Right Went Wrong Gregg Jackson, old friend and co-founder of this show, returned to WRKO and Pundit Review Radio recently to discuss his new book, We Won’t Get Fooled Again. The book, co-authored with nationally syndicated radio host Steve Deace, does the following, “We Won’t Get Fooled Again is an in-depth expose of the so-called Religious Right, the most reviled and feared voting bloc in the past 30 years of American politics. However, despite all of the attacks and the acclaim, there is little evidence the movement actually has accomplished any of its objectives, which is why Gregg and Steve sought out leaders in the movement to get their take on where the fight for righteousness in America went wrong. Readers will be agonized, traumatized, but also galvanized by what these Christian leaders have to say.” Reading the book, I couldn’t help but remember back a few years ago, sitting in a hotel room in Florida with my family, watching Gregg emcee CPAC and introduce people like John McCain and George Will. What an accomplishment I thought. His first book was self-published and ended up in the Top 10 on Amazon political books and was praised by the likes of Thomas Sowell and Walter Williams. Big time right there. Sure, we had the radio show, but his book, the success and all the work that went into it, is what got him up there. In this new book, I learned a few things I hadn’t known about that CPAC experience. I never realized how disappointed he was by the willingness of party leaders to compromise on core issues. Instead of the wonderful experience I had imagined it to be, it was something of an awakening. Gregg does not spare himself from criticism. He, and Steve as well, include themselves among those Christian conservatives who made too many compromises on core issues where there should have been bedrock conviction. I really liked this aspect of the book. The honesty, the confession almost. By seeing in themselves what they are criticizing in others, it gives the argument they are making real credibility. As do the numerous interviews with Christian conservative activists from across the country. Here’s a quote from JC Watts Jr., former (R) congressman from Oklahoma. “In ‘We Won’t Get Fooled Again’, Steve and Gregg expose what I discovered long go, that there has been a conservative industry created. Consultants, pundits, media types and even some in the faith community use push button issues to drive us to the polls to vote for certain candidates to protect their deal. Conservative voters have to ask the tough question: ‘Are we moving the dial?’ This is a must read for every conservative voter and if you start reading it, you won’t want to put it down.” Make no mistake about it, Gregg and Steve are looking for some absolutes in a world of compromise. They are asking Christian conservatives to follow their teachings and stand firm on Life issues, especially. They make no case for rigidity on tax policy or anything of the political realm. To me, it’s no different than a conservative Catholic like Rick Santorum believing that all Catholics should adhere to, and vote according to, the church’s teachings. I respect people who do that. I may not agree with it, but I respect it. What I have a problem with is when you start imposing your beliefs on others. This book does not do that. It is simply asking politically active Christian conservatives to take a fresh look at the movement, their beliefs and their politics. Are they in alignment? For an outsider to the movement, to any movement really (RINO is not a movement as far as I know.:) I found the book fascinating. It is politics within politics. A similar argument or assessment is going on about the GOP in general, and the social con approach and the RINO, independent voter friendly approach. Sometimes, internal political battles are the most interesting. The Pundit Review Radio Podcast RSS feed can be found here and you can find us on iTunes at Pundit Review Radio.
