Call it “brain fog,” call it “attention economy burnout,” call it the dregs of late capitalism: however you label it, Tamara Lindeman has been feeling it. With “Neon Signs,” our favorite song from her 2025 album as The Weather Station, Humanhood—out now on Fat Possum Records—she gives names and shapes to the sense of dread so many of us feel permeating our daily existence.  “I've gotten used to feeling like I'm crazy—or just lazy,” she sings in her signature flinty voice at the start of the song, articulating the ennui of being stuck in a cosmic rut. Unending conflict, climate anxiety, and the always-on buzz of the internet—all of it has rendered so many of us inert. But the pulsing piano, swirling flutes and strings, and insistent beat do powerful work here, adding forward motion to Lindeman's existential angst. A protest song of a stripe, “Neon Signs” feels like a spiritual update of The Who's “We Don't Get Fooled Again”—a cautionary tale wrapped up in defiance. Untangling the politics of want and need, of trust and fear, of lust and genuine connection, Lindeman wanders a glittering landscape in which every flashing light demands notice and every notification could single doom. Is cutting through all that noise possible? “Neon Signs” doesn't make it clear, but Lindeman tips her hand in favor of the possibility of human flourishing in spite of it all—if only we can get honest with ourselves: “I swear to god I saw real love once/But nothing needs you so badly as a lie, so lonely, drifting, unmoored from real life/if nobody believes it all it can do is die.” This week on Transmissions, she joins host Jason Woodbury to discuss Humanhood—the album, sure, but also the concept of what makes us human. We're so pleased to share this talk with you.

We dive deep into the tumultuous history behind one of the most ambitious projects in rock history, The Who's Lifehouse, and how it gave rise to an album that, despite its fraught genesis, stands as a masterpiece of the genre. From Pete Townsend's futuristic visions to the band's quest for a universal musical connection, we unravel the tapestry of a song that has been both celebrated and misunderstood. With a careful ear, we dissect the iconic keyboard riff, Keith Moon's explosive drumming, John Entwistle's virtuosic bass lines, and Roger Daltrey's soul-stirring vocals. Today we have onboard with us our resident theme maker, our classic composer and musical genius! He does all the DD comic inspired themes that regularly appear on the Quackcast and has done so for the last 10 years! In that time he's done almost 600 musical themes. At the moment Gunwallace is the games-master of a Star Trek roleplay thing that Tantz, Banes, and I all do after the cast. He's based an illustrated story on it called “On the Edge” with art by Banes and Genejoke, and some by Tantz and me, Ozoneocean. Gunwallace is a multi-talented creator, artist, writer, musician, composer, author, cook, and mixologist! This hale and hearty, towering example of a New Zealander has been posting comics here forever, notably the author of the very popular Playmobile art comic “Character Development” and the popular one panel strip “All Unicorns to Battle Stations”, among many others. He was a zine writer from way back in the day and he's STILL in the Zine-Scene now, having met many popular creators in that field as well and being one himself, he was even in talks to work with the world famous Lord of The Rings Director Peter Jackson at one point! In his free time he has written cookbooks based on bizarre old recipes, and books of cocktail recipes based on drinks he's devised himself and with friends. In this cast we have a long meandering chat with him about a whole bunch of things and by the by we also include many of the themes he's composed over the years. In order of appearance they are: Bruno harm, Life and death, Clint, Joe pop, Pinky TA, Typical Strange, Without Moonlight, Ginger and shadow, God's Revelation, and Super Temps. If you would like a copy of a theme Gunwallace has done he's more than happy to send it to you! Just contact him and ask! Our Patreon members ($5 and up) get to see us talking to Gunwallace on video. Follow us on - https://bsky.app/profile/theduckwebcomics.bsky.social (@theduckwebcomics.bsky.social) where the Quackchat continues every Sunday! This week Gunwallace has given us a theme inspired by A SuperActionGirl - This starts off with a weird stuttering electronica synth sound that echoes and vibrates as it stammers its repeating yet evolving chorus of notes in way evocative of fractal patterns or blooming flowers, finally ending with a phrase that seems to reference a similar sound from the start of Won't Get Fooled Again by The Who Topics and shownotes Links Gunwallce's latest project, On The Edge - https://www.theduckwebcomics.com/On_The_Edge/ Featured comic: Echo And Boltz Halloween Special - https://www.theduckwebcomics.com/news/2024/nov/04/featured-comic-echo-and-boltz-halloween-special/ Featured music: A SuperActionGirl - https://www.theduckwebcomics.com/A_SuperActionGirl/ - by Loststartraveler0, rated T. Featuring songs that were initially intended for Lifehouse, an unreleased rock opera and follow-up to the band's 1969 album, Tommy, the LP included such hits as “Behind Blue Eyes,” and “Won't Get Fooled Again.” In addition to appearing on countless “Best Of” lists over the decades, the album was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2007.   1978 - The Police released their third single 'Can't Stand Losing You' as the follow-up single to 'Roxanne' which when released the following year peaked at No.2 on the UK chart. Written by singer and bassist Sting as a song about suicide, the song gained minor controversy for its single cover art, featuring Stewart Copeland hanging himself.  In 1985, Michael Jackson won a bid over Paul McCartney and Yoko Ono to own ATV Music's publishing catalog, which boasted the rights to more than 4000 songs – roughly 250 of which were Beatles compositions, penned by Lennon and McCartney.  In 1993, less than two years after his death, Freddie Mercury scored his first solo No.1 hit with a remix of his 1985 single, “Living on My Own.” Jeremiah Tittle, Co-Host of “The 500 with Josh Adam Myers” podcast and CEO/Founder of Next Chapter Podcasts Learn more about your ad choices. Welcome to The Singers Talk Podcast based on my book of the same name. My guest this week is too insane to believe. Because his name is Roger Daltrey. Who???? That's right. The iconic singer of one of the most legendary, influential bands of the 20th century. In this episode you're gonna hear us talk about the unforgiving nature of being a front man, how he and Pete Townsend work out their songs, singing with your real voice, singing from your guts, the stutter stylings of ‘My Generation,' why ‘Won't Get Fooled Again” is his least favorite song to sing, you'll hear me fan out about some deep cuts that I love, and learn how Tommy made him become a Rock God.     All my writer's royalties from sales of the book benefit the kids and families at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital through our Music Gives to St. Jude Kids campaign. So I'd love for you to grab yourself a copy. And be sure to check out every episode of the podcast, our livestreams, and more at Volume.com/thesingers talk. And if you dig the show, rate, review and subscribe on your favorite streaming platforms to make sure you hear every new episode.    Volume.com is the destination for live music fans, where you can watch live and on-demand performances, see exclusive artist content, listen to music podcasts, and check out live music streams from your favorite artists, venues, and hosts.    Get The Singers Talk book at: Thesingerstalk.com   Donate to St. Jude at: Musicgives.org   You can find JTG @Kingsizetheband Kingsizetheband.com Jason Thomas Gordon is the lead singer/drummer of the Los Angeles rock band Kingsize, a screenwriter, author, and creator of Music Gives to St. Jude Kids, a campaign that raises money and awareness for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital through music-based initiatives. St. Jude was founded by Jason's grandfather, entertainer, Danny Thomas, in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1962. Jason also serves as a National Committee member of the hospital's board.

On the 50th Episode of the Album Review Crew of Shout It Out Loudcast, Tom, Zeus & special guest Murph review the 1971 legendary album from the classic rock band The Who "Who's Next." The Who was already one the greatest rock bands of all time in 1971 when they began working on a new project from guitarist Pete Townshend, called "Lifehouse." The band scrapped the plan (with the help from their producer Glyn Johns) and decided to use their best songs for a new rock album. The result was their greatest album and one for the greatest rock albums of all time. The band was in their prime, led by main songwriter, guitarist and music genius Pete Townshend. Roger Daltrey was the prototype lead singer of the time, a good looking, charismatic frontman with incredible vocals. Bassist John Entwistle is considered by many as the greatest bass player of all time. Rounding out the lineup is one of rock music's most iconic character, the insane Keith Moon, who was just as good a drummer as he was a madman. The album was produced by the talented Glyn Johns and The Who. Who's Next boasts some of classic rock's greatest songs, including, Baba O'Riley, Bargain, Behind Blue Eyes and Won't Get Fooled Again. These songs and more are staples on classic rock stations. The album has gone triple platinum in the United States and is constantly on the greatest albums lists. As usual the boys breakdown and dissect the tracks and rank the songs. They then rank the album and the album cover against the previous 48 albums reviewed on the Album Review Crew. This was the Zeus' pick. So get in tune and make sure you don't get fooled again by listening to anything other than SIOL! I will not be fooled into thinking, That this is somehow the end. Give up my power and follow in fear, When I'd rather gather with friends. Speaking of gathering with friends, come to Costa Rica! https://bit.ly/kaypacha-cr-2022 (Early bird promo ends October 15, save $200!) Here is the link to Gigi Young's video discussing the 8th sphere. Please note that it may be disturbing: https://youtu.be/vak9sv9XyBU I'm not sure if Gigi discusses it in this video or another, but this is a time of initiation. Initiation naturally and fundamentally includes some hardship, challenge, and test of spiritual knowledge, will, and grit prior to dispensing and experiencing higher worlds. Many these days, and especially in virtual technological realities, think they can access higher realms of knowledge and understanding simply, quickly, and without preparation. Unfortunately, this is not the case. While these are indeed challenging times full of tricks and trials, let's remember that we are constantly being supported, held, and nourished by spiritual beings of the light! Let's not despair but rather know that we will be building (and can start now) a new paradigm of expanded heart forces, consciousness, joy, and light on the other side of this initiation. We are torchbearers leading the way for future generations to follow, so let's shine brightly! See if you can dance and jump as high as Peter Townshend in "We Won't Get Fooled Again!" https://youtu.be/UDfAdHBtK_Q And I love the ever-expanding Pele Playlist on Spotify! Check it out if you haven't. We add a song every week, and it's getting big and better! http://bit.ly/pele-soundtrack So Much Love, Kaypacha https://newparadigmastrology.com/ ☄️ PS: Sign up for my weekly newsletter to receive my Astro reports and uncensored insights: http://bit.ly/npanewsletter ⚡️Join THE NEW PARADIGM SCHOOL OF ASTROLOGY: https://bit.ly/newparadigmschool

This time we review two really amazing episodes. Granted, in the grand scheme of things, they didn’t really happen but they’re still amazing. First up, “Won’t Get Fooled Again”, where Crichton is back on Earth again. Or is he? This time it’s completely different… and just keeps getting crazier and crazier. And we also prove conclusively that the 2000’s line-up of the Guardians of the Galaxy is a complete rip-off (homage?) of Farscape. We wrap up with “The Locket” where the crew gets all timey-wimey inside a misty space bubble. Aeryn and Crichton are stranded on nearby planet that seems to only appear every 55 years while Moya and the rest of the crew never age. How can they all get reunited and back to their normal ages before it’s too late? And our old buddy Stark is back with some dire news for D’Argo. Host Eric Scott and Jason Johnson.
