The word "spirit" has so many connotations. Per the thesaurus: character, courage, energy, enthusiasm, essence, heart, humor, life, mood, morale, quality, resolve, temperament, vigor, vitality, warmth, and will. Hegel had a different interpretation: God.  And he said it as clear as day.  He defines God as the timeless Absolute Idea, the idea of ideas, self-thinking thought.  But is doesn't end there.  The Absolute Idea freely others itself in Nature, and enters this finite world as Spirit.  It does so to become actual, real, not just abstract truth.  This episode reviews the etymology of the word "spirit" across different cultures - Greek, Latin, Hebrew, even Proto-Indo-European, up to the present day.  And then explores how spirit relates to Hegel's tripartite system, and finds its fulfillment in what Hegel calls True Infinity.  Listen to The Bearded Mystic Podcast Creating a community to deepen our understanding of Non-Duality in Hinduism Listen on: Apple Podcasts Spotify

Pressure & Release Technique: What Does it Really Teach?

Hi Janine, This is such a huge topic in horse training. It's so big I am dedicating the entire month of my November Facebook daily posts to addressing this topic and why we use it in horse training. You've probably heard about pressure and release training at some point. It's commonly used in both natural horsemanship and other forms of positive training. It's akin to desensitizing, operant conditioning and flooding. This is why it's a very misunderstood method of training. Pressure and release training is in reality a form of negative reinforcement. Instead of teaching the horse a new thinking skill or level of confidence and trust in what it's learning, the horse responds through learned helplessness. That's because horses are passive by nature and hardwired to work together, and get along. The common understanding of pressure and release training puts the emphasis on applying pressure and rewarding with a release. In fact, the most effective application of pressure and release training is to use pressure to encourage the horse to seek release. Thus, the release becomes the reward for their effort or a teachable moment as many natural horsemanship trainers say.But in reality, they seek the path of least resistance eventually, with the release teaching them that when they submit to force, excessive pressure or pain, the negative experience goes away.Next time you use pressure to help communicate what you're teaching, think about what your horse is learning and if they are confident learners, learning to think, engage, and problem solve.I explain more about what I mean and how I develop horses into trusting, confident, and thinking partners in my podcast.“You have to grow from the inside out. None can teach you, none can make you spiritual. There is no other teacher but your own soul.” - Swami VivekanandaMay you always be one with your horse,CarolineListen to The Bearded Mystic Podcast Creating a community to deepen our understanding of Non-Duality in Hinduism Listen on: Apple Podcasts Spotify

We found that freedom from fear was more important than freedom from want.TWELVE STEPS AND TWELVE TRADITIONS, p. 122Material values ruled my life for many years during my active alcoholism. I believed that all of my possessions would make me happy, yet I still felt bankrupt after I obtained them. When I first came into A.A., I found out about a new way of living. As a result of learning to trust others, I began to believe in a power greater than myself. Having faith freed me from the bondage of self. As material gains were replaced by the gifts of the spirit, my life became manageable. I then chose to share my experiences with other alcoholics. From the book Daily ReflectionsCopyright © 1990 by Alcoholics Anonymous World Services, Inc.Listen to The Bearded Mystic Podcast Creating a community to deepen our understanding of Non-Duality in Hinduism Listen on: Apple Podcasts SpotifySupport the show

A.A. and the presence of a Higher Power keeps me sober, but the grace of God does even better; it brings service into my life. Contact with the A.A. program teaches me a new and greater understanding of what Alcoholics Anonymous is and what it does, but most importantly, it helps to show me who I am: an alcoholic who needs the constant experience of the Alcoholics Anonymous program so that I may live a life given to me by my Higher Power.

Hawkins came into my awareness. His research into consciousness and my understanding of the Map of Consciousness helped me put into context the quantum nature of the spiritual awakening I experienced.Listen in as I share my story of a quantum spiritual awakening and what some signs and symptoms of a spiritual awakening could be for you. I also hint at the Drak Night of the Soul and what is known as a spiritual emergency.Based on consciousness research, I think it's safe to say that quantum spiritual awakenings are highly rare, so you don't necessarily have to"worry" about having one.But understanding the nature of a simpler spiritual awakening could help navigate. If you have questions, comments, or other topics you'd like me to address, please do so in the comments below. Here are Links to Purchase Dr. David R. Tune in as Suzanne shares from the heart about her experience around today's Daily Reflection, Repairing the Damage,  and struggles she's facing in her life.  REPAIRING THE DAMAGEGood judgment, a careful sense of timing, courage and prudence – these are the qualities we shall need when we take Step Nine.— TWELVE STEPS AND TWELVE TRADITIONS, p. 83To make amends can be viewed two ways: first, that of repairing damage, for if I have damaged my neighbor's fence, I "make a mend," and that is a direct amend; the second way is by modifying my behavior, for if my actions have harmed someone, I make a daily effort to cause no further harm. I "mend my ways," and that is an indirect amend. Which is the best approach? The only right approach, provided that I am causing no further harm in so doing, is to do both. If harm is done, then I simply "mend my ways." To take action in this manner assures me of making honest amends.

Jared used to run an online business selling digital products, but now he's writing for Time and Business Insider. In the course of those stories, he discovered the Fire movement. Loyal listeners ... you'll want to revisit this episode over and over.  Why? It's all about reincarnation. Dr. David Bettenhausen and Carla Bogni-Kidd share one of the most unbelievable and unique cases of reincarnation. And its their story. Meditation opened the door to a series of life-changing - and life affirming - past life experiences that inspired them to co-author a series of books to help others discover what we can learn from the past and how to prepare for our next life.Visit their website and buy their books at www.thegiftofpastlives.com.David BettenhausenDr. Dave serves as the vice president of medical affairs at a small Midwestern hospital. Whether he is at the hospital or his private practice, he daily coaches his patients about their well-being mentally, physically and spiritually. He believes in a holistic approach to life and regularly lectures and conducts discussions with groups of patients and physicians on healthcare. He has a personal interest in the stages of grief with death, dying and spirituality.  Before he entered medical school, Dave practiced as a registered nurse for ten years. After years in private practice as a physician in Ohio, Dr. Dave was approaching personal burnout. He had always valued being a positive example to his patients, and as his life became less joyful, he felt he was no longer doing that. He had weight issues, and his life was spiraling downward. Carla, as his office manager and friend was the vessel that carried Dave to meditation and the ultimate healing of himself. Meditation led both of them to an encounter with a set of wise spiritual beings known as Mother, Isabella, God and Elizabeth, which revealed many past lives to Dave and Carla. Through the insights Dave received during meditation, he underwent a personal transformation and regained his sense of self, which led to a weight loss of 116 pounds. He again found his joy in practicing medicine and with his patients.Carla Bogni-KiddCarla Bogni-Kidd has been on a lifelong journey of spirituality, always seeking her purpose and very often serving as a vessel for others' journeys. The theme running through her life has been to help others—that is where she feels the happiest.Carla is quite comfortable speaking with people about their innermost feelings and challenges. In this week show we have a special presentation of the new audiobook by yours truly. Narrated by Joseph Balog. This book explores the concept of prophecy in Judaism as defined by two great figures of Jewish history. Moses Maimonides and Abraham Joshua Heschel are two influential scholars who have impacted the many streams of Judaism. A simplistic dichotomy could be made between their two perspectives labeling Maimonides as a rational philosopher and Heschel as a mystical one. Both the study of Jewish prophecy and the approaches of both of the scholars are complex topics, but not impossible to decipher. The nature of revelation is also part of this discussion. To some scholars Maimonides' and Heschel's perspectives of God seem to be in conflict, one being Aristotelian while the other being a more traditional one in line with the Bible and the Talmud. With these factors in mind and based on the available data my book will support the following contention: Maimonides' and Heschel's different philosophical approaches about the biblical prophets are within the bounds of classical Judaism. In the film "2001, A Space Odyssey," H.A.L., an artificial intelligence character, loses its mind and begins killing people.  Did H.A.L. act on his own accord?  Interesting question.Everyday we hear more and more how artificial intelligence programs will soon be the equivalent of human beings and perhaps even smarter.   Is this true? Some theorists believe Hegel's dialectical approach, when added to a computer's binary operation, can provide a degree of self awareness to the machine.  But is this true self-awareness or just simulated self-awareness?This episode explores these questions and more. Listen to The Bearded Mystic Podcast Creating a community to deepen our understanding of Non-Duality in Hinduism Listen on: Apple Podcasts Spotify

During a rough week personally, tonight's guest was a gift wrapped as a "two for one". Michelle Freed is a radio program producer, publicist for paranormal talent, controlled remote viewing coach, licensed hypnotherapist and more.Originally Michelle contacted me to help book guests for the show. When I learned about her background, I begged to get her on as a guest. She was the last producer for Art Bell's iconic Midnight in the Desert  program and afterwards co-founded the Midnight.FM radio network - literally over a weekend after leaving a job! Michelle also runs LITM Media ("Leave it to Michelle!") where she connects a  fat rolodex of past guests for bookings on podcasts, radio shows and author promotions. You can learn all about Michelle and reach out to her for classes and services at butterflyeffectcenter.com.
