Full Text of ReadingsMemorial of Saint Pius X, Pope Lectionary: 422The Saint of the day is Saint Pius XSaint Pius X's Story Pope Pius X is perhaps best remembered for his encouragement of the frequent reception of Holy Communion, especially by children. The second of 10 children in a poor Italian family, Joseph Sarto became Pius X at age 68. He was one of the 20th century's greatest popes. Ever mindful of his humble origin, Pope Pius stated, “I was born poor, I lived poor, I will die poor.” He was embarrassed by some of the pomp of the papal court. “Look how they have dressed me up,” he said in tears to an old friend. To another, “It is a penance to be forced to accept all these practices. They lead me around surrounded by soldiers like Jesus when he was seized in Gethsemani.” Interested in politics, Pope Pius encouraged Italian Catholics to become more politically involved. One of his first papal acts was to end the supposed right of governments to interfere by veto in papal elections—a practice that reduced the freedom of the 1903 conclave which had elected him. In 1905, when France renounced its agreement with the Holy See and threatened confiscation of Church property if governmental control of Church affairs were not granted, Pius X courageously rejected the demand. While he did not author a famous social encyclical as his predecessor had done, he denounced the ill treatment of indigenous peoples on the plantations of Peru, sent a relief commission to Messina after an earthquake, and sheltered refugees at his own expense. On the 11th anniversary of his election as pope, Europe was plunged into World War I. Pius had foreseen it, but it killed him. “This is the last affliction the Lord will visit on me. I would gladly give my life to save my poor children from this ghastly scourge.” He died a few weeks after the war began, and was canonized in 1954. Reflection His humble background was no obstacle in relating to a personal God and to people whom he loved genuinely. Pius X gained his strength, his gentleness and warmth for people from the source of all gifts, the Spirit of Jesus. In contrast, we often feel embarrassed by our backgrounds. Shame makes us prefer to remain aloof from people whom we perceive as superior. If we are in a superior position, on the other hand, we often ignore simpler people. Yet we, too, have to help “restore all things in Christ,” especially the wounded people of God. Saint of the Day, Copyright Franciscan Media
St. Pius X, Pope (Memorial)
O holy Pope Pius, you were a humble shepherd who longed to bring Christ closer to His people. You opened wide the doors of the Eucharist, calling even the youngest to the table of the Lord. You rekindled reverence for sacred worshipand defended the truth with courage and clarity.Intercede for us, that we may grow in lovefor the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar.Teach us to hunger for holiness,to seek what is eternal above what is passing, and to follow Christ with joyful and faithful hearts.May we, like you,“restore all things in Christ” in our homes, parishes, and world.St. Pius X, gentle reformer and faithful pastor, pray for us. Amen.

La Porta | Renungan Harian Katolik - Daily Meditation according to Catholic Church liturgy

In the inaugural episode of the 'We are Pius' Podcast, new CAO Jeremy Ekeler talks about his faith and it's relation to his mission in life: Catholic education.
Today in the Catholic Mass Series, we explore what it means to participate in the liturgy. Does active participation mean singing aloud and following the Missal, or does it mean something deeper? Father unpacks the original meaning of the phrase, “Active Participation,” by tracing its roots to Pope St. Pius X. He also explains how participation has developed—and sometimes been misunderstood—in recent decades. From the beauty of congregational chant to the quiet devotion of the Rosary, how are the faithful meant to engage in the Church's public worship? True participation, we shall see, is interior first—expressed in reverent, unified worship. Love to hear from you; “Send us a Text Message”Author Jim Valois takes us on a journey through the dangerous waters of modernism – not the technological or cultural kind, but the theological heresy that threatens to undermine Catholic teaching at its core. For young people seeking solid ground in a world of shifting values, this confusion can be particularly devastating. The conversation opens with Jim's personal story of reverting to Catholicism after years in evangelicalism. His experience illuminates how poor teaching and modernist influences can drive faithful Catholics away from the Church, only to have them return when they encounter the fullness of truth preserved in authentic Catholic tradition.Pope St. Pius X recognized this danger over a century ago, calling modernism "the synthesis of all heresies" and implementing reforms to combat its spread."Truth is not a something, truth is a somebody – Jesus Christ." By returning to Scripture, the Catechism, and the Church's living tradition, believers can find their way through the fog of modernism to the clarity and peace that only unchanging truth can provide.Jim's Article "Defeating Modernism" @ the Catholic ExchangeOur Ladies Prophecies By Jim ValiosDownload the Claymore Battle Plan for Men! “Take the next step, whatever that might be.” Fr. Mario Amore joins Men of the Hearts hosts Fr. Craig Giera and Fr. Drew Mabee to talk about his journey to the priesthood. His path was full of twists and turns, with stops in altar service and music ministry. After applying to Sacred Heart Major Seminary and subsequently delaying enrollment for two years, Fr. Mario finally took “the next step” to answer God's call. (0:26) Hosts Fr. Craig Giera and Fr. Drew Mabee introduce their guest this month, Father Mario Amore, Director of Evangelization and Missionary Discipleship for the Archdiocese of Detroit who also serves as a priest in solidum for the Resurget Cineribus Family of Parishes, which includes St. Aloysius, Old St. Mary's, and the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament. Fr. Amore reflects on his last few months, including Christmas and the annual SEEK conference. (6:55) Fr. Mario is no stranger to podcasts, having previously hosted the Archdiocese of Detroit's I AM HERE podcast in support of the National Eucharistic Revival. Our hosts join Fr. Mario in a discussion about some of the beautiful stories shared through that effort. Fr. Mario also shares his experience hosting the Certifiably Catholic podcast alongside Mary Wilkerson and Mike Chamberland, current hosts of Archbishop Vigneron's Eyes on Jesus podcast.(12:25) Fr. Drew and Fr. Craig reflect on their last few months. Fr. Drew has been “learning the lay of the land” at his assignment in Novi and recently had dinner with his brother and a longtime friend. Meanwhile, Fr. Craig has been encouraged by increasing attendance at Sacred Heart Major Seminary's recent Discernment Weekends. The group also talks about the significance of altar serving to encourage vocations to the priesthood.(20:12) Fr. Mario shares his vocation story. He attended Catholic school as a child and attended Mass every Saturday evening with his family, “doing whatever I had to do to embarrass [my parents].” Still, he remembers his maternal grandfather predicting that he would become a priest one day. He started serving the parish as an altar server before taking a detour into music ministry as a teenager. Ultimately, his interest in theology led him to explore taking classes at Sacred Heart Major Seminary, which he calls his “first foot in the door” of discerning the priesthood. (33:11) Fr. Mario recalls attending a discernment weekend at Sacred Heart. He was already familiar with the academic experience of the seminary, having taken classes since high school, but his discernment weekend affirmed for him that he could find joy in the brotherhood and community of Sacred Heart. After working in a parish for two more years, Fr. Mario finally decided to apply to become a seminarian—but waited and discerned another two years before officially entering the seminary.(44:53) Fr. Mario talks about his time as a seminarian at Sacred Heart, his ordination in 2015, and celebrating his first Mass at St. Pius X in Southgate on the anniversary of his baptism at the same church. He also touches on what it's like to serve both as a parish priest and Detroit as Director of Evangelization and Missionary Discipleship for the Archdiocese of Detroit. He then offers his advice to men considering the priesthood: “Take the next step, whatever that might be.” The episode concludes with a prayer and blessing.
