Before she can consider the question much longer, the Hound puts an ax through the skull of the knight chasing her, having already dispatched the other two knights. The Hound bluntly tells Arya her family is dead and they must flee. Arya isn't convinced. She wants to enter the castle and at least look for her mother. The camps are now a butcher's field, and the Hound gives her an ultimatum. They're first challenged by a contingent of knights who ask their business. Stranger is explained as a wedding gift from Lady Whent. They're waved through and the Hound laughs that Ser Donnel Haigh ought to have recognized him (although Clegane kept his face hooded) as Haigh had repeatedly lost to the Hound in tourneys. In the encampment of soldiers on the east bank, Arya looks for familiar sigils and friendly faces, but doesn't see anyone she knows or trusts. She hears a toast to a Queen Jeyne, a name she's never heard before. She suggests turning themselves in to the nearest northmen, but Clegane ditches the disguise and leads her towards the castle.Characters/Places/Names/Events:Arya Stark - Younger daughter of Ned and Catelyn Stark. Eventually she discovers that their goals are more aligned than she thought. The Kingsroad awaits ahead, and beyond that, the Twins and Arya's family. Mackelly and Simon buckle-up their life jackets.Chapter Review:Arya Stark and Sandor Clegane (AKA the Hound) are quoted an exorbitant rate to be ferried across the swollen Trident. Arya thinks it's the Blackwater Rush, assuming the Hound is taking her back to King's Landing. When the pair reach the far side of the river, after a wild ride, the Hound pays the rate with the IOU provided to him by the Brotherhood Without Banners when they took his gold. The ferryman isn't happy, and the Hound figures that'll prevent him from taking paper promises from any future patrons. The Hound learns that Arya met his brother Gregor, when Gregor had taken her captive and marched her to Harrenhal. The Hound gets a kick out of the idea that Gregor had such a prized possession and didn't realize it. The Hound tells Arya of how he saved Sansa from danger during the riot of King's Landing and tells Arya that if she behaves they'll make much better time. When the Hound asks Arya where she thinks they're going, she realizes it's not King's Landing like she thought. It turns out he's taking her to the Twins. He plans to ransom her to her family and hopes to be handsomely rewarded for his efforts. If they hussle, they might even make it in time for her uncle's wedding.Characters/Places/Names/Events:Arya Stark - Younger daughter of Ned and Catelyn Stark. Robb returns to Riverrun, where he exchanges forgiveness of transgressions with his mother. Cat for freeing Jamie. Robb for marrying a non-Frey. Robb also scolds his uncle Edmure for preventing Tywin and his army from reaching the Westerlands, where Robb's force laid in wait. All consider ways to appease House Frey's wounded ego. Simon and Mackelly peruse belated wedding gifts.Chapter Review:Catelyn Stark is alerted that her son King Robb has commanded that she join him in the great hall. There, she is quickly forgiven by her son for freeing Jamie Lannister. Lord Rickard Karstark is not so forgiving. He calls her actions treason. After the hall has been cleared, Robb introduces Cat to a group of strangers who surround him. Ser Rolph Spicer, his sister Sybell Westerling, and her children. The last of those children he introduces as Jeyne, his new bride and queen. Cat realizes immediately that this means they've lost the support of the Freys, as Robb agreed to marry a Frey to cement the house's allegiance to him.King Robb and Brynden Blackfish Tully then lay into Cat's brother Ser Edmure Tully for harassing Tywin's army, as it tried to ford the Red Fork on it's way back to the Westerlands. It turns out that Robb and his force were waiting on Tywin's army and planned to pin them in the west or destroy them. That would've allowed Stannis Baratheon to destroy the Lannisters in King's Landing. Instead, Edmure's victory over Tywin allowed him to get word of Stannis' attack on King's Landing and swoop in and save the city.Cat says none of that matters, at the moment. More important is winning back the north from the Iron Born. Robb thinks the only chance they have of success is to earn back the Frey's fealty. There must be something he can offer to Lord Walder Frey. Cat doesn't think it is something, as much as it is someone.Characters/Places/Names/Events:Catelyn "Cat" Stark - Eldest child of Hoster Tully, widow of Ned Stark, father of King Robb.King Robb Stark: Eldest son of Eddard "Ned" and Cat Stark. The northern army reaches the Twins. They need to cross the Green Fork, but only Walder Frey can make that happen. Cat shows off all her negotiation skills in brokering a deal that gets them across safely with only two of her kids married off to Freys. Simon and Mackelly divide and conquer. Chapter Review: The northern host arrives at the Twins, seat of House Frey. The only crossing of the Green Fork in the next 500 miles. Lord Walder will exact a toll. The Frey's send out a welcoming party, inviting Robb Stark to come and discuss. The various lords argue and disagree, but Catelyn Stark cuts through the nonsense by agreeing to go instead. She's banking on the Frey's fealty to House Tully to keep her safe. Inside she's not warmly welcomed, and Walder (surrounded by his prodigious progeny) fairly observes that he also has an oath to King Joffrey, so whichever way he chooses he's an oath-breaker. He bears a grudge for every slight, intended and imagined, ever thrown at the Freys. Cat tries to lend a sympathetic ear. Lord Frey clears the hall and they haggle. Cat returns to the host. Great news, the host can cross and the Frey's 4,000 soldiers will boost their ranks. Chris and Kyle try to repair the pact between House Stark and House Frey with this very Red episode. They crack open a National Lager packed with a ton of Strawberries, then dive into extra tart Georgia Sour Ale with Blackberries and Raspberries and then finish off with an Irish inspired Ale from the Panhandle.
"Leave one wolf alive and the sheep are never safe." Arya chillingly says as she gets revenge for the Red Wedding at long last. "When people ask you what happened here, tell them the North remembers. Tell them Winter came for House Frey." Season 7 comes out of the gate hot as House Frey meets its long awaited demise. Bran beyond The Wall sees the Night King and the army of the dead advancing. Meera and Bran arrive at the Night's Watch and tell Edd to send a raven of the looming peril. Jon Snow at Winterfell tells the northern houses about dragonglass and needing as many able bodied fighters as possible. The Wildlings become the Night's Watch at Eastwatch By The Sea, Sansa and Jon disagree about the future of two great houses and Cersei sends Jon a letter telling him to go to King's Landing and bend the knee or suffer the same fate of all traitors. In King's Landing, Cersei and Jaime argue over how to handle the threat to them on all sides. High Garden to the West, Dorne to the South, Dragonstone to the East and Winterfell to the North. Euron Greyjoy attempts to make an alliance with Cersei which she declines. Euron tells her that he will not return until he brings her a "priceless gift" to make her reconsider. Meanwhile, Sam is still at Oldtown working in the Citadel with the Archmaester, Brienne is training Podrick at Winterfell and we get an unexpected cameo from a certain Irish singer! Arya learns that the Great Sept of Baelor was destroyed and that the men she is sitting with were charged with keeping the peace because they heard there was trouble with the Freys at the Twins. They ask Arya why she's going to King's Landing to which she relies "I'm going to kill the queen." While this is going on, the Hound has to face a mistake from the past. Thoros of Myr has the Hound look into the flames and the Hound sees a vision. Back in Oldtown, We see the Cats Paw Dagger in the old archives of the citadel and learn its double use and Sam realizes where the living can find as much dragon glass as needed. A certain grayscaled hero makes his appearance right before we see the Dragon Queen arrive at Dragonstone in Westeros for first time. Daenerys asks "Shall we begin?" Daenerys and her advisers make plans for her next move and she is skeptical of Varys. "Swear this to me Varys, if you ever think I'm failing the people, you won't conspire behind make back. You'll look me in the eye as you have done today and you'll tell me how I'm failing them." Daenerys tells him. Varys responds "I swear it my queen." to which Daenerys replies "and I swear this, if you ever betray me, I'll burn you alive." Melisandre arrives and we learn a certain loophole to the prince that was promised from Missandei and Melisandre urges Daenerys to summon Jon Snow. Daenerys agrees, but adds a required addendum to the summons. In King's Landing Cersei is trying to manipulate and gain as many allies as possible while Jaime specifically attempts to gain Randyll Tarley's alliance from Olenna Tyrell. Sam meets the grayscaled man and realizes who it is, Qyburn has a plan for Daenerys' dragon's while Daenerys' war council has a plan of it's own. Grey Worm and Missandei share a passionate goodbye, we learn what the name for a Song of Ice and Fire was initially intended to be and Sam disobeys a direct order from the Archmaester. Arya sees an old friend at an inn which causes her to change her mind and go North to Winterfell instead of South to King's Landing. Jon receives letter from Sam detailing where Jon can find all the dragon glass he needs and Jon makes an executive decision. Ellaria and Yara have a steamy interaction right before their ship is attacked. Euron shows his true prowess as a warrior and naval commander, killing two Snakes and taking a Greyjoy captive. Keep it rolling with us here at the Riddikulus Crew as we are winding down on this epic Game of Thrones arc. We are in the deep waters now as we have gotten to the point of no return with the only seasons left being the most hotly debated ones that Benioff and Weiss wrote without any books to lean on. Andrew and Manu have finally made it "Baelor," one of the most transcendent episodes of TV from this decade (and maybe ever). Appropriately, they start off with Varys' second visit to Ned Stark in the black cells of King's Landing, as the Master of Whisperers tries to convince him to support Joffrey to save Sansa. Then, it's off to the Riverlands, where through his mother Catelyn, Robb enters into negotiations with the nefarious Walder Frey. We're introduced to the creepy environment of the Twins, and Manu provides some of House Frey's history and Walder's background with Cat's father, Hoster Tully. Robb is presented with ominous terms, as he must agree to marry one of Walder's daughter to cross. He does so, but yeah, that doesn't work out well for him once he goes back on his promise. In the second half of our Best of 2017 episode, Luke Annand, John Johnstone V and Jordan Ferguson count down their combined list for the Best TV of 2017. Along the way, they discuss the dominoes of powerful men falling due to sexual harrassment and impropriety, Luke apologizes to John for trying to get him to watch prestige TV thanks to The Crown and John is asked if he's happy now that Arya has gotten more revenge on House Frey. 1. We discuss the events of the premiere of Game of Thrones. At the Twins, the remaining lords of House Frey are poisoned by Arya, disguised as Walder Frey. The White Walkers march toward the Wall, where Tollett allows Bran and Meera inside. At Winterfell, despite Sansa's disapproval, Jon secures the loyalties of Houses Umber and Karstark, who fought alongside Ramsay in the Battle of the Bastards. At the Citadel, Samwell steals books that reveal a large reservoir of dragonglass in Dragonstone, and sends word to Jon. He later finds Jorah in a cell. In the Riverlands, Arya meets a group of friendly Lannister soldiers, who take her intention to kill Cersei as a joke. Thoros shows Sandor a vision in the fire. The revelation leads him to believe in the Lord of Light. In King's Landing, Jaime tells Cersei of the crucial need for allies. She welcomes Euron, who proposes marriage to her in exchange for his Iron Fleet and a chance to kill Theon and Yara. Cersei declines, citing trust as a concern, so Euron promises to return with a "gift" to prove his loyalty. Daenerys arrives at Dragonstone, the home of House Targaryen once occupied by Stannis, with her army and dragons.
Welcome Renegade Nation it’s me Naughty Nicole and it’s time for another Renegade Review. And today, we have one of my favorites and I hope one of yours, Game of Thrones Season 7 premiere. Ah yes, the wait is mercifully over and this was the longest downtime between seasons in history, but the wait is over and we can finally find out what happens to all our favorites. Now if you remember we left on the line Winter is Here….. You have to hand it to Game of Thrones. If we were taking Super Bowl-style prop bets Walder Frey wouldn’t have had snowball-in-hell odds of being the first character seen in the first shot. The former Lord of Riverrun is, after all, quite dead. Yet, there he was. In a prologue sequence, Walder Frey appears in a Red Wedding-style setting and cheers his family on. As Walder stands at the head of his family it becomes increasingly clear he's not Walder Frey at all. He says he's gathered "every Frey who means a damn thing" so he can reveal his plans for the coming winter. He gives everyone "proper wine, for proper heroes" and they toast together and cheer. But then old Walder starts talking about the Red Wedding. He calls everyone "brave men" for, now get this... "butchering a woman pregnant with a baby" and for cutting the throat of a "mother of five." The room goes deathly silent. Then, people start dropping. "You didn't slaughter every one of the Starks. That was your mistake." Frey continues. "Leave one wolf alive, and the sheep are never safe." One by one, every Frey who means a damn thing drops dead right there — poisoned by that proper wine. Bodies lie motionless everywhere. Arya Stark peels off her Walder mask and tells Frey's child bride, "When people ask you what happened here, tell them: 'The North remembers.' Tell them: 'Winter came for House Frey.'" And Winter has come… all over house Frey’s pinched little faces. Now, THAT is how you start a friggin' season off!
HBO's Game of Thrones is back!!! Bubba (@FittenTrim) and Catfish (@cjgman67) from Double P Podcasts (http://facebook.com/doubleppodcasts) breakdown the season premiere based on George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire saga. The Fall of House Frey.
Show Rundown: In this week’s episode, we talk about the return of Game Of Thrones, which kicked off its penultimate season on Sunday night. Peter Brown from Assignment X joins us. In our second segment, we review the final installment of the “Planet of the Apes” movies, “War For The Planet Of The Apes.” Smith super loves this series. Was he happy with how it all ended? Well, you’ll have to listen and find out. And finally, we end our show with what we’re dorking out about this week, which is basically just the Emmy nominations. Topic 1: Game of Thrones Season 7 Opener Unless you’ve attending dinner parties at House Frey, you know that Game Of Thrones kicked off its 7th season on Sunday, the first of seven new episodes. Next year, its season 8 and final season will have six episodes. Every episode since the show first aired in 2011 has been leading up to these final two seasons. Creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have masterfully set up the game board for what is sure to be an epic conclusion. Joining us to talk about Sunday night’s Game Of Thrones is Peter Brown from Assignment X. Topic 2: War for the Planet of the Apes and What Makes Great Trilogies That brings us to our review of War for the Planet of the Apes, and a larger discussion of just what is so great about a movie trilogy. There’s nothing quite like a great movie trilogy. Why is that? And does this recent Planet of the Apes trilogy rank among them? War for the Planet of the Apes is the final movie in the prequelish trilogy of Apes movies which began with 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes and 2014’s great Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Starring Andy Serkis as Caesar, the lab ape-come-Moses-figure to a tribe of intelligent apes living in California after a plague has wiped out 499 of every 500 people, and Woody Harrelson as a human soldier trying to clutch onto the human control of Earth as a second wave of plague might be finishing off humans for good, War has been widely praised and renewed talk of how the Oscars might honor work like Serkis’ here… performances which are not all CGI and not all human. What makes a great trilogy? Why do we care about trilogies? Star Wars Trilogy Lord of the Rings Trilogy Toy Story Trilogy Mad Max Trilogy Alien Trilogy Spider-Man Trilogy Dark Knight Trilogy Back to the Future Trilogy Bourne Trilogy Dollars Movies Trilogy Godfather Trilogy Matrix Trilogy Indiana Jones What We're Dorking Out About The Emmy nominations …. We keeping hearing that we’re in the Platinum Age of Television, but when it comes to the Emmy nominations it’s just business as usual. The Emmys seem to take a giant leap forward last year, nominating criminally overlooked shows like “The Americans,” and giving Emmys to the leads of Orphan Black and Mr. Robot, neither of which are nominated this year, just like “The Americans.” Instead the Emmys took two steps back with nods for shows that are kinda played out like House Of Cards and Modern Family and honoring “movie stars” like Anthony Hopkins, Kevin Spacey, and Liev Schrieber for their TV work even if the performances are not the best TV has to offer. I’m not sure “Westworld” really deserves to be in the Best Drama category. I feel like that nomination is more the result of HBO’s big Emmy marketing budget. And I don’t want to even get into how much I hate that “Sherlock” is nominated for anything, because it was terrible. There are some bright spots. I was happy to see all the Emmy nominations for A Handmaid’s Tale, Atlanta, Stranger Things and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. I’m glad to see so many SNL actresses nominated for supporting actress.
