Hi friends! I have a new podcast episode live and I'm so excited for you to hear this one. Joel Greene is today's guest, and I felt like I could have talked to him for hours. Here's what we talk about in today's episode: - Nutritionl for metabolism and reducing inflammation - How to navigate conflicting health info - Whey and dairy and how they can actually be superfoods - How GMOs and industrial seed oils affect gut health and inflammatory fat cells and so.much.more. 169: The Immunity Code Diet and why dairy isn't the enemy with Joel Greene Joel Greene is the author of The Way: Immunity Code Diet and The Immunity Code, the very first gut-health protocol teacher, and the original biohacker that utilizes the family of insulin hormones and the immune system to create lasting health. In 2007, Joel published the very first article to the public on the microbiome and the relationship to weight loss, creating a name for himself in the wellness space. By 2009, he had created the first nutrition system based on gut health to help people lose weight and feel better, called the VEEP Nutrition System, and it was used by large cities, like Phoenix and Houston, as well as large corporations, like Technicolor and a major hospital chain. This proprietary system was also featured on Dr. Phil. By 2013, before any present day gut health gurus existed, he had over 16,000 research outcomes targeting the microbiome for health and weight. Joel's work has also been featured in several well known media outlets like Muscle and Fitness, CBS online, 24 Hour Fitness Digital Magazine, among others. In late 2019, he published The Immunity Code, widely regarded as one of the most influential health books of this decade. The book launched several biohacking practices trending in the mainstream health and biohacking narrative today, like mouth taping, targeting Akkermansia for gut health, HMO's, no warm up sprints, microdosing exercise, the use of supplements like berberine and apigenin, and many other biohacks. Joel has been featured on top podcasts like Ben Greenfield, Mark Bell Power Project, the Minimalists and others, for his deep inquiries and unique discoveries known for optimizing health. Joel's new book, The Way: The Immunity Code Diet, introduces an entirely new framework diet to achieve real and lasting health, and finally puts an end to the dietary confusion of this age. About The Way: The Immunity Code Book: The Way is the sequel to the influential biohacking book, The Immunity Code, highlighting a framework for a simple diet that optimizes the immune system and insulin family of hormones to achieve lasting health. The Way creates clarity around what, when, and how to eat, resulting in reduced inflammation, weight loss, and a longer life span. The diet comprises 48-hour cycles of eating that mimic natural eating plans—the first 24 hours are for foraging, and the second 24 hours are for fasting, and high protein/fats, as well as taking into account seasons, scarcity, social interaction, sleep, and balance. Joel's mission with The Way—to put an end to dietary confusion and restrictive food-exclusionist approaches, and instead re-introduce simplicity and dietary diversity. # 59 - How GMOs and Glyphosate are Linked to Your Gut Problems, Inflammation, and Even Cancer About 30 years ago, Genetically Modified Foods (GMOs) came with the promise that they would solve world hunger and use fewer pesticides and herbicides. Did they live up to their promise? Nope. Not only have GMOs not increased crop yields or decreased pesticides and herbicide use, but they've been shown to have created super-weeds and super-pests, which actually has led to higher amounts of herbicides like Roundup on our foods. The increased use of herbicides and pesticides has been linked to increased digestive disorders, neurological problems, inflammation, and cancer. Not to mention serious problems to farming communities, wildlife, and our food quality as these toxins leach into the fields, ground water and food. If 64 other countries label GMOs for consumers to make the choice, why hasn't the U.S.? Bottom line: Money. Why should you care? Listen today to find out why you want to avoid these poisons at all costs and what alternatives you can choose at the grocery store. The primary purpose of The Pretty Well Podcast being to educate. Other countries' regulations against food additives are generally stricter than the United States. Much of the food on the shelves or in restaurants can be processed and filled with GMOs or seed oils. Anyone who has traveled abroad has probably noticed reduced inflammation after going out to eat. Is it possible to enjoy authentic Italian food, sourced from real ingredients, without having to travel all the way to Italy? David Seggiano, Co-Founder of Seggiano with his wife Peri, wanted to build a brand based on holistic well-being, sustainable agriculture, and authentic Italian food. Thirty years later, they source their ingredients from all over Italy with handpicked, handmade, simple ingredients. Seggiano is committed to ingredients of provenance and quality. In this episode, David talks to Jen about how David and his wife got Seggiano started, what inspired the duo to source real ingredients, and how Seggiano compares to other Italian foods. Few technologies are viewed with as much suspicion as genetic modification. Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are banned in several parts of the world; an entire protocol under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) is dedicated to controlling their effects on biodiversity; and national and international agreements and regulations tightly legislate their use across a broad range of applications. Why, then, do GMOs continue to grow in popularity? Why do farmers in the developing world consider them game-changing tools to deal with the demands of making a living, or even a livelihood, from agriculture? And what's all this subversive business about GMOs being good for biodiversity? Joseph Opoku Gakpo is an environmental journalist who writes about GMOs and other aspects of agriculture, the environment, and rural development. He is Ghana correspondent for "Alliance for Science", and was awarded the Ghana Journalists Association prize for Best Journalist in Poverty Alleviation Reporting in 2015. Joseph has a passion for sharing the struggle of farmers and other rural people, which is reflected in his refreshingly clear and level-headed style of reporting. In this illuminating discussion we talk about how GMOs got such a bad name; whether any of the allegations against them are reasonable; what they mean for poor people around the world; and what is the nature of their relationship with biodiversity.Links to resources:Ghana's GMO conversation turns to biodiversity - A 2018 article by Joseph for Alliance for Science Ghanaian scientist: ‘Africa needs GMOs more than the rest of the world' - A 2022 article by Joseph in which he talks about and quotes one of the academics he has worked withThe Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety - Website for the protocol discussed with JosephTime stamps:02:09: What are GMOs?04:17: Why GMOs are so controversial 08:20: The geographical chronology of GMO introduction09:27: Why GMOs shouldn't be shunned11:41: What about impacts on health; terminator genes; and contamination of other organisms?17:56: How GMOs can help biodiversity20:00: Savings to farmers25:00: The slow uptake of GMOs in some parts of the world and the targeted traits of GMOs30:53: Changing perspectives on GMOs, and local champions of GMOs40:25: Changing attitudes in Europe?43:08: Does political polarization play a role?45:57: The Cartagena Protocol on BiosafetyVisit www.case4conservation.com
A 2019 survey of over 3,000 participants noted considerable improvements in the following conditions by avoiding genetically modified organisms (GMOs)... Digestive issues (85.2%) Fatigue (60.4%) Overweight or obesity (54.6%) Brain fog (51.7%) Food allergies/sensitivities (50.2%) Mood issues (51.1%) Memory (48.1%) Joint pain (47.5%) Gluten sensitivities (42.2%) Insomnia (33.2%) Skin conditions 30.9% Hormonal problems (30.4%) Musculoskeletal pain (25.2%) Autoimmune disease (21.4%) Eczema (20.8%) Cardiovascular problems (high blood pressure) 19.8% And while this survey was conducted in a group that may be more sensitive to GMOs, I think it's important to acknowledge that GMOs do have health and environmental risks. According to Jeffrey Smith, GMO advocate and this week's podcast guest, novel developments in genetic engineering may possibly contribute to future pandemics. Listen in to learn why GMOs are dangerous, how to identify them, how to get involved in regulating their use and so much more! Here are some highlights from our important discussion… Why GMOs are dangerous The difference between organic and non-GMO 4 “healthy” foods that have high levels of glyphosate The children's cereals with high levels of glyphosate How GMO companies control research How GMOs affect digestive health and mental health Why Roundup is even more dangerous than people think How GMO research is rigged What is gene editing and why it's dangerous How and why GMOs could contribute to future pandemics How you can stop gene editing How to avoid GMOs How to detox from glyphosate What to know to avoid GMOs when you eat at restaurants New GMO foods to watch out for And so much more! In this episode Jeffrey is interviewed by Bryan Carroll from the Summit for Wellness Podcast: I'm sure you have heard of GMO crops, which have been around for a couple of decades. But now we are living in an interesting time where people are testing new waters and starting to mess with microbes. As we've seen over the last couple years, once a microscopic-sized organism is released, there is no way to stop it from spreading around the world. So if we are manipulating bacteria and other microbes, if there are harmful unintended consequences then it could be catastrophic to the planet. In this episode with Jeffrey Smith, we discuss what could happen if the wrong microbes get out of the lab. What to expect from this episode: What are GMOs and are we only genetically modifying plants or are we breaking out into other natural realms How GMOs impact the human body (at least up to this point) What are some potential issues with genetically modifying bacteria and other microbes Ways we can put regulations in place to reduce the chances of massive unintended consequences impacting the planet The Institute for Responsible Technology is working to protect you & the World from GMOs (and while we're at it, Roundup®...) 2 Docs Talk: The podcast about healthcare, the science of medicine and everything in between.
One of the latest technological advances in food production is the introduction of GMOs, or genetically modified organisms, to the food supply. They have the potential to offer many benefits including increased productivity, pest and herbicide resistance, longer shelf life, and the list goes on. But many are concerned that this relatively new technology isn’t safe – for health, the environment or the economy. We dig into the evidence surrounding GMOs in this episode. We might even share an opinion or two on whether the crops are just GMOs or Frankenfood.
