Uber Stories will return next week, but I wanted to take this week's episode and open up about something that's been weighing heavily on me and has left me feeling pretty depressed these last couple weeks since coming back from Las Vegas. Returning from a vacation or a holiday or PTO and jumping right back into your normal schedule is difficult enough, but add in a time difference, a lack of a plan, and having to say goodbye for 7 months to the person you love the most? That, my friends, is a recipe for a rough couple of weeks. And that's exactly what these last two weeks have been since getting back from our trip to Vegas. I've been burying the reality of this looming goodbye and my emotions about it with work and food. Literally stuffing down my sadness with Chick-fil-A and fruit gushers. Not great, Bob. But I finally reached the point where I realized what I was doing to myself, why I was emotionally eating, why I was feeling depressed, and so I wanted to use this week's episode to open up about these things and own the last couple weeks because doing that is like therapy for me. Speaking about these things on this episode was cathartic for me. And I gotta say, I feel much better now ☺️ Life is full of moments that we might not post on social media, we might not want our friends or family to know about, and we certainly wouldn't open up about with strangers, but there are gonna be grey days in life. There's gonna be some times you get down and depressed and things are rough and even though those moments might not be super popular to talk about, they happen, they exist, and it's important to remember that you're not alone, even when it's dark out. So I hope you enjoy this episode, I hope you enjoy the new segment I'm doing called The Doctor is In (1:20:42), and I hope you'll be back next week for Uber Stories Pt. 27

We're on a mission to help one million people RISE by 2030 - join the movement at www.myrise.co.uk I mentioned the other day that, by the time we're next back doing sessions in the club, we will have been ‘solely online' for two thirds of the previous year. We've managed to keep the business going through the continued support of the existing members who carried on with “the next best thing”. And an amount of new members who've come in since. After the initial ‘adjustment' last March to April, our number of leavers has actually been lower than a normal year. The issue has been the increased difficulty in bringing new people in compared to normal. Now I do get that that most might not choose to start the full programme when they've never even been in the club. But, we have other options for support that anyone can use. The ‘RISE @ Home' programme. And we ran a free ‘7 Day, 5 Minute Feel less shit challenge' last week that was open to anyone. And there have been periods where we were back in the club when people could've got cracking. And whilst some have, a common response to people we speak to is “I'll wait till this all blows over”. Or “until things are back to normal”. And we get that. We do. It's a tempting thought. But………….. From our experience………… It's tempting to think versions of that for years on end. We've had people that have been getting our blogs for years and occasionally respond with “I'll get started with you when………….”. When work is better. When the holidays are finished. When the kids are back at school. Or existing members who've stopped doing sessions or making changes to their eating and will “get back to it when……….”. Again, we get it. There's always something happening. But, that's the key. If we wait for the stars to align……….. For things to be ‘perfect'……….. Or even ‘better'…………. Then we'll probably wait forever. It's often that ‘all or nothing thinking'. Where we tell ourselves that we need to do five lengthy workouts a week and eat like a monk. And, when we don't feel we can do that, we do the equivalent of nothing. We often say “it does what it says on the tin”. We help people RISE. Doesn't need to be as fast as possible to personal bests at all times. It's just better decisions than we could or would have made. It's average forward progress when it used to be the opposite. Two steps forward and one back, rather than one forward and two back. Or three and two. Or even two and two. Standing still when we could've gone massively backwards. “Waiting till this all blows over” or “things are back to normal” essentially means we're planning on sliding backwards until then. And, probably, for longer. This doesn't mean someone needs to join one of our programme (although they are more than welcome, of course). It's just to question whether looking after our health, fitness, energy levels and mood should ever be something we defer? Something we plan to look after in the future? Or, maybe, it's something we just slow down and speed up on a little as circumstance dictates. Much love, Jon ‘Me down with a feather' Hall

What Language Do you Speak? In this Entry, we discuss the power of the tongue, and how we can use our tongue to bring blessings & life or curses & death. Be careful to guard your mouth and not say anything that contradicts God's will for you. Our mouths set us back when we speak from our emotions and feelings, or our mouths propel us forward when we speak God's promises in faithful expectation. I would like for you to ask yourself these questions below: 1.) What Language do you speak daily? 2.) If today was Judgement day, based on the language you currently are speaking, how do you feel God should judge you? 3.) What can I thank God for today? Song: Tina Campbell - "I'll Wait" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s0gywXOdGHE Scriptures: Psalm 139:4 New International Version (NIV) Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely. Proverbs 20:19 New International Version (NIV) A gossip betrays a confidence; so avoid anyone who talks too much. Ephesians 4:29 New International Version (NIV) Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. Proverbs 18:21 New Living Translation (NLT) The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences. James 3:6-8 New International Version (NIV) The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and sea creatures are being tamed and have been tamed by mankind, but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. Matthew 12:36 New Living Translation (NLT) And I tell you this, you must give an account on judgment day for every idle word you speak. Please do not forget to Rate the Entry Below!!

"I'll Wait...For The Salvation Of The Lord"How good are you at waiting? When it comes to the good things in life, we can’t wait to get to it – like the day of our retirement or the birth of a child or grandchild and we’re like a kid on the 4thof July waiting for the fireworks. But then there are the things in life that we do not look forward to – like our gospel lesson, where there is a sickness in the family. We’re like Jairus and pleading with Jesus, “Please, don’t let my little daughter die.”We all face difficulty, trouble and sorrow in life. What are we to do about it? At times we find ourselves complaining – about the taxes we have to pay, the economy, our health, in a relationship or in a marriage. Whatever the case is, may we all say with the prophet Jeremiah in Lamentations 3 – “I’ll Wait…For The Salvation of the Lord.”

Paperback Rocker: Where Words and Music Collide

My website is www.PaperbackRocker.com. You can find the podcast archives there. Find my books of rock and roll fiction on Amazon by searching my name, Matt Syverson. Follow me on Twitter @PaperbackRocker. Email me at bowiefan1970@live.com. Thanks for listening! The show notes are as follows: I have released the Kindle version of "Blue Whiskey". I thought it was going to take all of my three day weekend to format, but I did it in one hour, and it looks great. I can't believe I remembered how. It's weird that in person I always sell "Black Dog", but online "Band On The Run" sells much more. My last two episodes on Stitcher had some weird distortion thing in the intros, which I did not cause. That reminds me of how excruciating it was trying to make my CD sound the same across all playing platforms, and I talk about that a little. I talk about recording my album and all the four track recording I did over the years. I had some troubles with my album's producer, who may or may not have had a severe cocaine addiction. I tell how The Cars chose their band name. I talk about some things I heard author Hugh Howey say some things I agree with on another podcast. I talk about the legend of Ozzy Osbourne pissing on the Alamo and whether that is true. I also discuss the world's most prominent scholar of the Alamo, who happens to be a classic rock superstar. I observe the anniversary of Bon Scott's death and do a poor imitation of his replacement, Brian Johnson, which hurts my throat. The anniversary of "Spinal Tap" happened, too, and I talk a little about that movie. One rocker thought it was like a horror movie because it was so real. Next, I talk about Michael McDonald of the Doobie Bros. co-writing "I'll Wait" with David Lee Roth! Ted Templeton got them together. I also talk about Slash's regrets about his image, along with the Glimmer Twins, the Toxic Twins, and Guns n Roses. I tell a story about a Slash show my buddy went to. Finally, I talk about how to enjoy podcasts even if you have a sketchy 3G or 4G connection. You can download your favorites on Stitcher using Wi-Fi and play them back without using a live connection. Thanks for listening, and I hope you enjoy the episode.
