It's a big big episode for a big big game, Real Madrid vs Barcelona with a trophy at stake, what's better than that? Mark and Payton deliver a packed pod, rolling through the history to be made in the hundred-plus year old matchup (29:58), including how the teams match up this season, what critical decision the managers have to make, the key battles on the pitch, and finally, their predictions for the game. Plus, your hosts dig into the most fun segment of the season as they hold their annual clasico fantasy draft, but this time with an added twist, now including Real Madrid and Barcelona legends in their squads (1:02:03). Also, the reviews for the midweek la liga games are in, starting with Barcelona-Mallorca (4:50), and Real Madrid-Getafe (19:04).Â
Welcome in for another edition of the Morning Espresso from the SDH Network, brought to you by Oglethorpe University, Atlanta's premier undergraduate learning experience and soccer powerhouse.Atlanta United traded Xande Silva to St. Louis last night for a guaranteed $100K in General Allocation Money, and St. Louis will take his full salary onto their salary cap. The fee could rise to $250K in GAM if certain incentives are met.Other moves around the league yesterday, the final day of the Primary Transfer Window, included Willy Agada going to RSL and Robert Taylor moving from Miami to Austin. More moves could be announced today, the deals had to be completed on paper by last night to be official. The window is now closed until the Secondary Transfer Window for MLS opens in late July. Vancouver hosts Miami tonight in the first leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup semifinals in what should be a sold out BC Place. People are comparing it to Pele's visit with the Cosmos in 1977. Don't discount the Whitecaps in this one, they're currently leading the Supporters' Shield race in MLS and navigated tricky matches with Monterrey and Pumas to get here. Our old friend Juanjo Purata leveled the other semifinal late for Tigres against Cruz Azul. They head to Mexico City for next week's second leg tied at 1-1. Milan hasn't had a great season this year, but they've owned their rivals Inter. Yesterday, they advanced to the Coppa Italia final with a 3-0 win, ruining Inter's treble hopes. Real Madrid defeated Getafe 1-0 yesterday to keep pace with Barcelona at the top of La Liga. However, they lost Eduardo Camavinga due to a torn adductor tendon, he will miss the rest of the season with the injury. They play Barca on Saturday in the Copa del Rey final in Sevilla. Reading have gotten another extension in their deadline to sell the club, they are in the final stages of the transaction and have until May 5 to complete it. The new buyer, who is still confidential at this stage, will take over the current financial obligations of the club right now as they try to earn a promotion playoff spot in League One. Everton announced a new investor, Rangers confirmed the previously reported negotiations with the San Francisco 49ers, and Spezia was sold with Charlie Stillitano becoming the Serie B club's new President. The drama with Vinicius Jr. and Real Madrid was covered a great piece by Mario Cortegana in The Athletic. Basically, don't believe the Spanish tabloids that a contract extension with the club is imminent and don't discount the possibility of Vini ending up in Saudi Arabia for an insane amount of money both to him and Real Madrid. And then, don't be surprised if Madrid go shopping in England to replace him. Check out the podcast for more money talk in the game around the world.More Espresso on Friday on the SDH Network, presented by Oglethorpe University.
Mark and Payton break down an awful duo of champions league games for the el clasico sides, as Barcelona make it interesting with an indifferent performance at Dortmund almost erasing their 4-0 first leg lead (4:40), and Real Madrid capitulate at home to Arsenal in embarrassing fashion (26:58). Your hosts also fire up the old Sack-o-meter for Ancelotti (47:41). Then, the boys preview the weekend la liga games, as Barcelona make their bid to keep their 4 point lead at the top of the table against Vigo (55:20), and Real Madrid hope for a good result against a tough Athletic Club side (1:02:09).Â
The after hours chaos continues in Part Two — and this time, it gets even better. We kick things off with Chris Cerce of Cerce Customs, Chris Stafford of Stafford's Garage, and a return visit from Vini of Vini's Hot Rods. Then, things take a turn…For the first time ever, the one and only Cousin Mikey takes over the host chair. He's been name-dropped on the show for years, and now he's running the mic with a new wave of guests including Jesse Greening, Dave Delancey of The Lobster Trap, and a special On the Gas segment featuring Blake Shaw breaking down his 1969 Chevelle. This episode is equal parts hangout, hot rod talk, and late-night mayhem. You've been warned.
The boys preview a season-shifting session of Champions League football, as Real Madrid capitulate to an organized and extravagant Arsenal side (6:14), and Mark details the failings that led to this disastrous date for Real (31:43). Plus, Barcelona put on an artistic exhibition with the pitch as their canvas in a dominant win over Dortmund (44:29). And, the boys preview la liga weekend action, as Real Madrid look for revenge against Alaves (1:16:09), and Barcelona search for a solid result against struggling Leganes (1:11:09).Â
Hello Rank Squad! It's time for Champions League Takeaway, your late night delivery following the action - looking back at Tuesday's Quarter Finals, where Arsenal blew away Real Madrid in a stunning second half at the Emirates, whilst Inter dispatched Bayern with ruthless efficiency on German soil. We start with the man of the hour - Declan Rice - whose two unbelievable free-kicks handed Arsenal the lead in their tie against Real, putting the Gunners on their way to a 3-0 win that even the most ardent Gooner wouldn't have seen coming. Looking at the game as a whole, we discuss where Arsenal got things right, where Real Madrid got things wrong, the second leg at the Bernabeu, and loads more. Then in Part Two it's time to head to Bavaria to discuss Inter beating Bayern 2-1 at the Allianz, thanks to some clinical finishing from them, some profligate moments from their opponents, and a chaotic ending that saw a goal at each end in the closing two minutes of normal time. It's Ranks! And remember, if you'd like more from the Rank Squad, including extra podcasts every Monday and Friday (including our weekly Postbox taking a look at the whole weekend of football) and access to our brilliant Discord community, then why not join us here on Patreon?
The boys dive into a couple of meaty affairs that set up a delicious el clasico conclusion to the Copa Del Rey this year, as Real Madrid squeak out an important extra-time win over a resilient Real Sociedad side via a late, late winner (9:35), and Barcelona endured the slings and arrows of Atletico Madrid in a violent but victorious affair for the blaugrana (33:54). Plus, your hosts prepare for important title-defining clashes, as 2nd place Real Madrid host Valencia needing maximum points (55:05), and Barcelona face in-form Real Betis (59:20).Â

Hello Rank Squad! Dean's back in London, so it's less of a Transatlantic Job this week, but that doesn't mean there's not still plenty to discuss. Today, we're looking at the Champions League Quarter Finalists, but in a slightly different way - examining who the most important player is for each of the eight teams remaining in the competition, from the perspectives of how they've played so far, as well as who is most likely to step up going forward. We take the eight teams in turn ahead of their QF matchups, thinking about star performers across the course of the competition, but also about which player their opposition would remove from these games if they were given a choice to do so - giving us some interesting names and discussions around how we rank players in systems. We finish by trying to pick a top three each, but we found that was a harder task than either of us envisaged to begin with! It's Ranks! And remember, if you'd like more from the Rank Squad, including extra podcasts every Monday and Friday (including our weekly Postbox taking a look at the whole weekend of football) and access to our brilliant Discord community, then why not join us here on Patreon?
Vinicius a brillé hier.
The boys open up with talk of Carlo quitting Real for Brazil and Xabi Alonso taking over (4:30), Payton celebrates an important win over a disappointing Osasuna side in what could be a massive 3 points for Barcelona (6:40), before Mark previews a massive game for Real Madrid as they must secure maximum points in their first game back from the international break against Leganes to stay in the title race (30:18), and Barcelona face local rival Girona (36:05).Â
Welcome in for another edition of the Morning Espresso from the SDH Network, brought to you by Oglethorpe University, Atlanta's premier undergraduate learning experience and soccer powerhouse.Disappointing night for the USMNT who lost 1-0 to Panama on a stoppage time goal from Cecilio Waterman. Panama's 5-4-1 gave the US fits, and there wasn't enough urgency to find answers or take risks. Mauricio Pochettino said afterwards that the US shirt wasn't enough in games like this, he said you could feel the difference in the hunger shown by the two sets of players, and he said the US needed to take more risks going forward. That's not easy to change overnight, and I'm really curious to see the response in the third place game against Canada on Sunday. Mexico will face Panama in the Nations League championship match on Sunday after a 2-0 win over Canada on two goals from Raul Jimenez. The top six teams in South American World Cup qualifying should be fine to qualify. Paraguay is unbeaten in 7 after their 1-0 over Chile. Brazil needed a stoppage time winning deflected goal from Vinicius Junior to beat Colombia. Then, Raphinha needed to prevent Vini from getting a time-wasting yellow card as he was subbed out which would have had him suspended from the Argentina match on Tuesday. Was he trying to get suspended? It looked bizarre.South Korea, Iran, and Australia should be the next teams from Asia to earn qualification to the World Cup after their results yesterday. New Zealand will face New Caledonia for the Oceania qualifying spot after both won their semifinals. Denis Bouanga scored twice for Gabon in their win in African World Cup qualifying. The door has cracked open for Nigeria who has struggled mightily so far after Benin could only manage a draw, Nigeria faces Rwanda and can pull to within two points of qualifying with a win. Mozambique moved into a qualification spot with a win, but Algeria could jump them with a win today. The New York Pancyprian Freedoms became the 6th team to pull off a cupset in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, winning a penalty shootout with FC Cincinnati 2. England starts their World Cup qualifying journey today, hosting Albania. England are unbeaten in their last 31 World Cup qualifiers and have never dropped points to Albania. The highlight of the qualifiers is tonight as Uruguay hosts Argentina in one of the world's oldest rivalries. More Espresso on Monday on the SDH Network, presented by Oglethorpe University.
The boys dig into a heaping helping of La Liga action, as both el clasico sides complete thrilling comebacks to stay top 2 in the table. Mark covers a magical Mbappe performance that fires Real to maximum points vs Villarreal (5:23), and Payton marvels at his favorite Barcelona game of the season in the blaugrana's late, late remontada vs title rivals Atletico Madrid (16:50).Â

Hello Rank Squad! It's the second of two Champions League Takeaway episodes on the feed this week, with four more games to dissect - headlined by another 120 minutes of madness, this time from Madrid, where Real needed penalties to get the better of Atleti in a game the hosts will feel aggrieved not to have won (we've heard that one before...)We break down the chaos of the penalty shootout, including Julian Alvarez's disallowed spot kick for a double-touch, examining the rules and what exactly happened; before looking back at the game as a whole and examining some of the individual performances that caught our eye, for good and for bad. Then in Part Two, we take a look at a heavily rotated Arsenal's 2-2 draw with PSV - it didn't matter, progression was all but guaranteed; Aston Villa's 3-0 win over Club Brugge where Marco Asensio in particular shone once again - what a signing he has been for Unai Emery's men; and a vastly improved display from Borussia Dortmund as they came from a goal behind to beat Lille in France and progress to another quarter final. It's Ranks! And remember, if you'd like more from the Rank Squad, including extra podcasts every Monday and Friday (including our weekly Postbox taking a look at the whole weekend of football) and access to our brilliant Discord community, then why not join us here on Patreon?
Mark laments a weak but ultimately useful performance for Real Madrid over a decimated Rayo Vallecano side that lifts them above Atletico in La Liga (8:27), Payton shares some sad news for Barcelona, as well as some transfer rumors (2:57), before the boys dig into the most important games of the season so far, with Barcelona hosting Benfica in the 2nd leg of their Round of 16 matchup (21:45), and Real Madrid look ahead to another intense Derbi clash as they take their single-goal advantage from the first leg into the hostile confines of the Metropolitano (29:01).Â
The boys dig in for another set of juicy matchups in the Champions league, but first have some la Liga business to delve into, as Mark marvels at the pathetic performance by Real as they embarrass themselves at Betis in their worst game of the season (6:32), and Barcelona saunter past Sociedad albeit with a bit of luck (20:40). Then, the main course as Real Madrid prepare to take on their bitter hometown rivals in a titanic Champions League clash, and Mark wonders if this particular version of Madrid can repeat the feat of their forebears (39:40), and Barcelona take on their newly-minted Champions League rivals Benfica, who they seem to play every few months (50:54).Â

Hello Rank Squad! It's time for Champions League Takeaway, your late night delivery following the action - following the second legs of the new 'Playoff Round' in the competition, pitting the teams who finished 9th to 24th in the league stage against each other to earn places in the Round of 16.Wednesday night saw the headline tie of the round - Real Madrid vs Manchester City - settled by a Kylian Mbappe masterclass, with the Frenchman scoring a brilliant hat-trick to put the game far beyond the reach of Pep Guardiola's men and eliminate a Pep side before the Round of 16 for the first time in his managerial career. We talk how far off it City were, and how with the No 9 firing, Real Madrid might well just be favourites once again. There's also a discussion of the most entertaining game of the evening - PSV's extra-time triumph over Juventus which made the Old Lady the third (of three) Italian sides knocked out in this playoff round - two to Dutch opponents, and the other from Belgium - it's a good time to be from the Low Countries! And we talk briefly about PSG's absolute demolition job of Stade Brestois, and Borussia Dortmund's very uneventful seeing off of Sporting CP. Then in Part Two we chat through Bayern's late Davies dagger that broke Celtic hearts (it's a cruel game, sometimes), as well as Milan and Atalanta's respective headlosses as they crashed out to Feyenoord and Club Brugge respectively, as well as an incredibly fun encounter which saw Benfica emerge victorious against AS Monaco. It's Ranks! And remember, if you'd like more from the Rank Squad, including extra podcasts every Monday and Friday (including our weekly Postbox taking a look at the whole weekend of football) and access to our brilliant Discord community, then why not join us here on Patreon?
