A very different episode today! Much shorter and chattier - it's been slightly more chaotic than usual the last 2 weeks and because of the increase in workload I've struggled to sit down and record this weeks episode properly. I thought instead of missing a week I'd quickly hop on and update you all on what's been happening BTP. I'll be back with a normal episode Tuesday chatting about Christmas fairs and what to do to prep for them! Thank you for listening and hope you're having a great start to the week, Molly Jay
In episode 12 I'm chatting about taking my three original wildlife artworks to a new location to be hung, my thoughts of them not selling / finding a forever home so far and what I can do to change that going forward with my marketing strategies. I also briefly chat about us Artists feeling disheartened if our work doesn't sell straight away. I hope you can relate to this episode in some small way, thank you for listening, Molly Jay
For episode 11 I'm taking a deep dive into all the other art tools I use as a coloured pencil and graphite Artist. In part one (episode 10) I discussed my favourite papers, coloured pencil brands I use and my favourite white and black pencils. Part two will cover graphite pencils, and all the other tools I use like erasers, sharpeners, the slice tool, fixative, my scanner and any other bits and bobs I use daily to create Art. Hope you enjoy this one, I have popped all the links to the materials I mention on my website blog - link in bio!
For episode 10 I'm taking a deep deep dive into everything I use as a full time Artist, working mostly in coloured pencil and graphite pencil. This episode was so long I have split it into two parts, oops - (love a bit of art waffle

After missing a week off work due to being unwell, I was very out of my usual routine and mindset this week. I thought I'd just chat about the realities of being a self employed Artist and bouncing back into routine when you've had some time away from your desk. *Disclaimer* it's absolutely ok to take some time off when you're self employed! Especially when your body needs that rest. I chat about getting back into routine, trying to bounce back and battling that pesky self employed guilt we all have when we're not working. Hope this episode helps you in some small way if you're feeling the same
Episode 8 marks two months of recording this podcast, and I felt very reflective, as you can tell! I just wanted to discuss some of the positives I have experienced over the last 8 weeks, as well as feeling a bit cringe and like a total newbie. However, feeling this way is the entry price on the road to success, growth and self development and I am ok with that. It's a chatty debrief episode from me, and I hope you can take away something positive from this week's ramblings

Going after what you want is something I very quickly became aware of when I first went self employed. I chat about preparing for opportunities, getting out of your comfort zone, being proactive and facing rejection. It also turns into a little bit of a pep talk at times so if you're after a little boost this episode is for you

For episode 5 I felt inspired to chat about creating original Art and how we can produce art that is truly authentic to ourselves. This is the direction I'm heading in currently and having an Arty meet up with fellow Coloured Pencil Artist Hannah Lipsey definitely sparked some inspiration to talk about it. It's a very chatty one from me, and I'm hoping it'll all make sense!
We've all heard successful creators complain that younger hopefuls "just don't want to do the hard work." They disregard the complicated nature of achieving their status and dismiss aspiring novices on the basis of one single factor. Survivorship bias is undoubtedly a result of flawed reasoning. ...But is it bad advice?Brad and Dave discuss survivorship bias in the creative community and its impact on success. They acknowledge that survivorship bias exists but argue that it is not the sole determinant of success. They emphasize the importance of hard work, honing skills, and making adjustments based on feedback. They also discuss external factors that can impact a creative career, such as personal circumstances and societal biases. The hosts share their own experiences and offer advice for aspiring creators. In this part of the conversation, the hosts discuss the importance of perseverance and being consistent in order to achieve success in comics. Also, they also address the question of working below one's artistic skill level and offer advice on finding a style that balances speed and quality. The hosts then share their thoughts on the transition from traditional to digital art, including the benefits and drawbacks of each. Discover Who You REALLY Are - From The Inside Out Emily and Meg invite Hannah, a Quantum Human Design Specialist (birthingmybeing.com) to help us all on our quest for self-discovery. Human Design is a synthesis of ancient wisdom and modern science to help you understand the power and beauty of who you truly are. It provides particular insight into your gifts, vulnerabilities, personality, life themes, psychology, and health. Human Design teaches us to live authentically according to the energetic blueprint we were given at birth. “This is an INSIDE OUT modality. It is not just another self-help tool, it's more deep. It makes us go within. These characteristics are already in you, so how do we enhance them?” “Human Design is different than all the oversaturated self-help out there because self-help still requires you to go outside yourself for the answers. With Human Design, you go inward.” “For more flow and less frustration, the big key is getting people attuned to their own inner awareness and then using that information to work with the outer reality.” Original Art by Meg Miller For further exploration, we loved the book: Introduction to Quantum Human Design 3rd Edition by Karen Curry Parker #podcastersofinstagram #podcastinglife #applepodcasts #spotifypodcasts #personalgrowth #selfdevelopment #selfhelp #positivevibes #infinitepossibilities #denverpodcast #self #selfdiscovery #whoareyou #insideout #relatable #podcast #funnypodcast #bingeworthy #bingeworthypodcast #you #humandesign #authenticity #selflove #speakyourtruth #authenticself #humandesignpodcast #grlpwrden #birthingmybeing #humandesignreading

Are You Behaving in Ways that Are Getting You the Opposite of What You Are Seeking? Emily defines assertive communication as self-advocacy. Meg defines her communication style as the clarity and honesty that begins internally so she can be more steady in stating her needs. They offer how they work with each of their styles and explore “mean girl” culture, how to get attuned to ourselves first, and how not to get triggered in our responses. “If you don't talk about it, your behavior will show it.” “How do we emotionally manipulate to get what we want in passive-aggressive ways?” “There are energetics and tensions people can feel behind your communication.” “How much is my responsibility in this conversation?” “What is the difference between choosing versus feeling compelled as an obligation?” “Am I doing this from a place of worth instead of having to prove, defend, or beg instead of connection, attunement, or mutuality?” “With increased clarity and simplicity comes confident authenticity.” “The simplicity comes when you stop focusing on analyzing their behavior and putt it back on aligning with your values.” “Keeping the peace doesn't work because we suppress our needs to play nice.” “Are these MY facts or THE facts? What am I making this mean?” “Our minds can easily make up a victim/villain story and then offer up ‘fake conviction' with blame.” “Good communication asks a question instead of assuming. It comes from a space of curiosity instead of blame.” Original Art by Meg Miller References from the episode: @MarkManson For further exploration, we loved this book: Crucial Conversations by Joseph Grenny, Ron McMillan, Al Switzler, Kerry Patterson, & Laura Roppe #vulnerability #gratitude #empowered #sweetrevenge #surrender #youareworthy #surrender #crucialconversations #podcastersofinstagram #podcastinglife #applepodcasts #spotifypodcasts #personalgrowth #selfdevelopment #selfhelp #positivevibes #infinitepossibilities #meangirl #emotionallabor #mindsetpodcast #personaldevelopmentpodcast #denver #podcastaddict #femalepodcasters #spiritualwarrior #useyourgifts #youaremorethanyouthink #thinkingofyou #trust #spreadinglove #motivationeveryday #startyourevolutionbaby
What happens when four vintage art fans decide to pool their resources to bid for 29 pieces of original Star Wars artwork in a high profile auction? Craig and Kimberley are joined by Will and Robin Arnold – not only to discuss Propstore, art collector William Plumb and artist Ken Barr – but to sit and review each piece ‘in person' for the first time. These hand drawn originals, including characters, vehicles and scenarios from the first three movies, were created to illustrate Random House's 1984 'Star Wars Word Puzzles' book, and make for a quirky, yet stunning spread of images. If you think some of these big auction lots are out of your reach, this story might make you think again. (This podcast is also available as an image-rich video here.)
This Friday, people will start lining up at the High Desert Museum for an annual art show that can feel more like a Black Friday sale. But instead of a mad dash to score a new 4K TV, the customers here will be jostling past each other to grab canvases of original artwork off the wall, each one priced at just $20. Now in its tenth year, the 20-Dollar Art Show features more than 4,000 handmade pieces of art submitted by 165 artists this year. If a work sells, 100% of the money goes to the artist, according to Stuart Breidenstein, an artist and the co-founder of the 20-Dollar Art Show and Bright Place Gallery in Bend. Oregon ArtsWatch profiled the show before tickets for the opening night event, which are now sold out, went on sale. Breidenstein and Kait Kenobi, an artist and branding consultant in Bend, join us to talk about this unique event and its enduring appeal for artists and the community in Central Oregon.

What the networks deem "newsworthy" barely scratches the surface of what it means to be a nation at war, a community at war, a civilian at war. Cultural anthropologist Dr. Greta Uehling joins us to provide a window into life for noncombatant civilians in Ukraine looks like during the current conflict, and the humor and humanity that gets them through the day. More on Greta Greta Uehling began her career by working directly with refugees, helping them find work in the United States. Her experiences in refugee resettlement motivated her to pursue a PhD in cultural anthropology, and have informed her career ever since. After earning her PhD, she became a consultant with the UN refugee agency (UNHCR) in Geneva, Switzerland, working in the Evaluation and Policy Analysis Unit. Her work on irregular migration there led to another migration-related position as a Family Reunification Coordinator for minors smuggled across United States borders from Latin America and China, in Washington, DC. Named after the globe-trotting Swedish actress Greta Garbo, she has traveled and worked in many regions. Her interviewees have often remarked about the rapport they feel during conversations. Her colleagues in anthropology note how this rapport, and Uehling's writing, centers previously unheard voices. With her current project, Uehling sought to tell the story of internal displacement in Ukraine in a way that is multivocal. She uses the language of lived experience to take readers on a journey through Ukraine that deepens understanding and solidarity. Uehling dedicated Everyday War to her students because they inspire her to write with their many and insightful questions. Her most recent book, Everyday War: The Conflict over Donbas, Ukraine is now available via Cornell Press or wherever books are sold Follow Greta @uehlingumiched1 on Twitter, and @greta.uehling on IG or learn more about her and her work at www.gretauehling.com Complete citations on our website.
