Shanel Evans doesn't just share her story — she lays bare the unspoken class dynamics and systemic barriers she faced climbing the corporate ladder. From her days as a finance director to building a six-figure business on her own terms, Shanel's journey is a powerful example of what happens when women challenge the norms of traditional workplaces. Her raw, honest take on navigating the intersections of gender, race, and leadership in male-dominated industries offers both a reality check and a call for change.Through Shanel's lens, we see how a startup environment became her proving ground, allowing her to lead with innovation, drive diversity initiatives, and build a nonprofit that thrived on strategies most people overlook. But the boldest move? Leaving a "safe" finance career to embrace her passion for marketing and entrepreneurship — right in the middle of a global pandemic. Shanel's leap wasn't just about changing careers; it was about claiming her time, energy, and purpose on her own terms. Her story reminds us that while entrepreneurship is far from easy, it can be the most liberating decision you'll ever make.In a business world addicted to hustle culture, Shanel is the antidote we didn't know we needed. Her anti-hustle philosophy flips the script on working harder by showing us how to work smarter. She calls out the toxic cycle of overworking, offering value-driven strategies that honor both your goals and your well-being. And when it comes to the pedestal mentality — whether you're the one putting people on it or stuck on one yourself — Shanel challenges us to dismantle those assumptions and open doors we didn't think were possible. This conversation is a bold reminder that women entrepreneurs aren't just changing their lives — they're reshaping the future of business itself.Guest Bio: Shanel Evans, founder of Socially Savvy and co-founder of FyreSavvy, is a seasoned Business Advisor and Marketing Consultant. In this episode of Happiness Happens, I sit down with Shanel and Ashley, the duo behind the transformative podcast "Soothing H.E.R." Our conversation sheds light on the internal healing journey necessary for finding joy and resilience in life's most tumultuous time.  The Power of Resilience Shanel and Ashley's stories are nothing short of inspiring. We uncover the raw and often painful process of healing from life's inevitable heartbreaks. Ashley shares her harrowing experience of dealing with betrayal just a week before her wedding, finding the courage to call off the marriage despite societal pressures and personal agony. Shanel, on the other hand, speaks about her divorce after a seven-year marriage, describing the isolation and struggle of starting anew in a foreign land. Their stories, though unique, converge on a powerful theme - the incredible strength and resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity. The Catalyst for Change The conversation takes a deeper dive into the catalyst moments that propelled Shanel and Ashley to start their podcast. Ashley's traumatic heartbreak served as a profound wake-up call, pushing her towards intense therapy and self-reflection. Shanel, having gone through a similar journey of a painful divorce, became an unwavering source of support for Ashley, eventually leading them both to create "Soothing H.E.R" as an outlet for their healing and as a platform to support others going through similar challenges. Life on the Other Side They emphasize the beauty and liberation found in choosing oneself and walking away from toxic situations. Despite the fear and uncertainty that accompany such decisions, they assure listeners that liberation, strength, and happiness await on the other side. It's a message of hope for anyone feeling trapped or uncertain - that courage and self-love can lead to a richer, more fulfilling life. The episode closes with a poignant reminder about the importance of giving oneself grace and setting positive intentions for each day. For anyone navigating their own healing journey, their stories serve as a reminder that, despite the pain and challenges, happiness is attainable and often found in the most unexpected places.   We'll touch on: 00:00 Intro 02:07 What does happiness mean to Shanel and Ashley 04:32 Is inner peace always accessible to everyone 07:09 Catalyst moment that made them realize they needed to make their podcast to bring women together 14:55 How to separate the action of the other person in your relationship and your own self worth 19:49 The catch of finding yourself disappearing further into a relationship and feeling muted 23:43 Life on the other side of choosing you 25:48 Advice for women who are hearing from others that they're making the wrong decision even though they know it is the right one for themselves 30:19 How to create more happiness in your day, every day, starting today Resources: Podcast Resources: https://www.simonacostantini.com/resources  Apply to be a podcast guest: https://forms.gle/ Happiness Guide: https://simonacostantini.ck.page/happinesshub    Connect with Shanel and Ashley www.instagram.com/soothingh.e.r www.twitter.com/soothingher  Podcast: https://open.spotify.com/show/0sl1qOgvDZ6W0QiKs1o3Tr?si=4oCe3I6yQqimdnpMlqB3sw    Connect with Simona www.instagram.com/simona__costantini  www.instagram.com/costantiniproductions  www.instagram.com/happinesshappenspodcast  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCXtOxOAuXxW7c5cYKdAEfWg  https://www.facebook.com/costantiniproductions  https://www.facebook.com/happinesshappenspodcast/  www.simonacostantini.com

She thought she could save him, he knew she couldn't, in the meantime they find love. Patrese and Shequana share their thoughts on the beautiful but troubling love story...take a listen. It's been said that you only get three loves in your life. But who has ever been lucky enough to find three loves? It's a miracle if a person runs into one person that they can share the emotion with. Love at first sight is a matter of perception, and for Ashland, he never really believed in the authenticity of it. Not until Kenya walked in and stole his breath away. He wasn't looking for love, never even wanted to feel love, and yet...here she was. Kenya's attraction to Ashland was immediate and couldn't be denied, but he was by far the most complicated man she had ever come across. How do you break down the barriers of someone who won't open up? How do you begin to explain what you don't understand yourself? Between the two of them, the idea of love seems more and more difficult to wrap their minds around, but the feelings won't go away, and their connection only gets stronger. Will Ashland and Kenya be able to maneuver through this complicated journey, or will their fears be enough to stop them from pursuing what could be the greatest moment of their lives? I recently sat down with the owners of BN Locations, Prism Lens FX and Tropic Color - YOUNG BOSSES Jakob & Shanel Owens to learn a bit more about turning Jakob's passions into seven-figure businesses. I'm excited to share with you my three main takeaways from this incredible conversation. #1 - You Can Learn Anything OnlineOnce a film student at ASU, Jakob had a hard time showing up to class but it wasn't due to normal circumstances.. Jakob was getting paid to shoot and direct music videos years before his projected graduation date. So, he skipped class to work with the likes of Futuristic and other regional musical artists at the time. That being said, Jakob is a HUGE advocate of YouTube University, if you don't know how to do something - it's simple. Look it up.I think this goes back to being resourceful. Successful people are resourceful, they tap into their mentors, friends, colleagues, and of course, the internet - they do whatever it takes.#2 - You Are Destined to FailWoah, woah, woah!! I'm not saying (and neither is Jake) that you'll never find success chasing your dreams. What we're saying is, there will be setbacks and L's along the way, that's just the way it is (things will never be the saaaame IYKYK).As Shanel so perfectly put it, “If every entrepreneur was winning 100% of the time, EVERYBODY would be an entrepreneur.”#3 - Pursue What You LoveOoof - easier said than done.. (Or is it?). A recent survey of 33,000 American adults said they would prefer to work a job they love for lower pay than work a job they hate for higher pay.“Whatever you're doing or wanting to pursue, make sure that you love it. If you love what you're doing, it will ultimately make it easier for you to find success in that pursuit,” said Jakob. At the end of the day it comes down to spending your time pursuing the things you love with other equally motivated and determined individuals. Remember, youth is your power.

This book puts everything in perspective. Their love was timeless but their time was limited. We wouldn't even call this a best friend's to lovers, it's more like best friends to soulmates. Time seemed to stand still for Abigail, aka Abby, while growing up in Crescent City, Florida. She wanted out. She wanted to experience the world outside of her small hometown. As soon as Abby was able, she went on to live her life, experiencing college in Texas, then furthering her career in the always sunny Southern California. The one thing she missed while broadening her horizons was her best friend Kendrick. He was Abby's confidant…her rock. Kendrick always wanted the best for Abby. He wanted her to be happy. So, while his feelings for her ran deep, he knew he needed to let her fly. The best friend role would just have to be good enough for him. Staying in Crescent City, so far away from Abby, hurt, but it was his home. When tragedy strikes, Kendrick and Abby end up back in one another's presence. With emotions on high, and buried feelings coming to the surface, it seems as though their love for one another was placed in a time capsule. No amount of time or distance could break Kendrick and Abby's connection. It was as if it were being preserved for the right moment. However, the right moment may not be what either of them expects. The universe controls more than just time; it also dictates our fate, which is inevitable and unpredictable. Fate, can also sometimes, be heartbreaking. From oral tinctures to transdermal lotions to cocoa-butter suppositories, infusing cannabis medicine at home allows consumers to figure out their own perfect doses and avoid the high costs of constantly stocking up on pre-made products. Making usable DIY cannabis oil or salve takes some real scientific know-how. It's easy and expensive to mess it up. But if you can master it, you can make and store literally any marijuana product that's helpful for your ailments. So how do we properly extract the medicine from the cannabis flower? How do we infuse that medicine into a medium that's safe to ingest? And how do we store our new homemade salves and oils so we can continue to find relief in place of pharmaceuticals for issues like pain, inflammation, skin problems, gastrointestinal troubles, and much more? This week, host Brit Smith gets an At-Home Infusion 101 class from Shanel Lindsay, the CEO of Ardent (ardentcannabis.com) and Billow (whatisbillow.com); two biotech device companies that help consumers more easily and effectively extract and use cannabis medically at home. Shanel explains the essential steps to properly heating cannabis flower (decarboxylating) and getting the good stuff off the plant, how to infuse it into oils, milks, or alcohols, how to figure out your personal dosing, how to keep your homemade infusions fresh for longer, and how to do 'infusion boosting.'Follow us on social media @DifferentLeaf and follow host Brit Smith @BritTheBritish.Order the new winter medical issue of Different Leaf the magazine at DifferentLeaf.com or find your nearest in-person retailer at differentleaf.com/on-the-newsstandFind our new merch line at xDifferentLeaf.com

It's always exciting to discover software that can improve the quality of human lives, and in this case – save them.  Our guest, Shanel Fields, is a prime example of why it is important to support underrepresented founders, as she's set out to build a startup that reduces the number of dead on arrival cases.  This is a scenario that occurs all too often in underserved communities.   Founder Bio: Shanel Fields is the Founder and CEO of MD Ally -  a  911 telehealth company that enables virtual patient care for public safety systems. As the child of a volunteer EMT, Shanel's always had a deep appreciation for first responders and brings a unique perspective to public safety technology. She started the company while at Wharton Business School after learning that low-income communities experienced higher rates of “dead on arrivals,” because of their longer ambulance wait times. She decided to do something about it by launching a company that integrates telehealth into 911 and improves healthcare outcomes.   After successfully raising over $1M in seed funding this year, Shanel is one of the too few venture-backed, black, female CEOs with a seat at the table of what has traditionally been a male-dominated space. She continues to break barriers as a thought-leader that's been featured on the front page of The New York Times Business section, interviewed on Good Morning America and, most recently, appointed to Techstars Board of Directors.   Timestamps: 2:40 Shanel's background: New York, Atlanta, Philly 5:50 Early career at AT&T, Athena Health, and Wharton MBA 8:51 MD Ally Origins: A 911 telehealth company 11:33  How Shanel's background in sales impacts her perspective on entrepreneurship 17:11 Enterprise Sales at a startup vs. large company 20:13  Shanel's keys to generating customer conversations at an early phase 24:59  Prioritizing customers in the midst of an endless “to do” list 30:12  MD Ally and how it contributes life saving tech for low income and indigent communities? 33:11 Building tech products in the 911 market 39:56  MD Ally's funding journey + learning lessons
