He emphasizes the importance of painting from life, particularly through plein air work, which helped him develop his observational skills and capture the nuances of light and landscape. Scott's journey involved building his art business gradually, selling directly to collectors, and maintaining a professional approach that includes goal-setting, consistent communication, and nurturing relationships with art enthusiasts. He advises aspiring artists to paint frequently, start small, avoid overwhelming themselves, and focus on creating authentic work that resonates with their personal vision. He also tells us about the power of the "one thing" that artists can be doing daily to get closer to meeting their goals. A Signature Member of the Oil Painters of America, Anna's work has been featured in Fine Art Connoisseur and American Art Collector and exhibited in some of the most esteemed galleries and competitions in the country. Among hundreds of honors, Buddy won two Grammys for Album cover art and design. Born and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee, Buddy attended Young and Doyle High schools and attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, pursuing a major in Oil Painting and minor in Sculpture. “A representation of the human form is the oldest man-made object ever found, and in the millennia that have ensued, the impulse to recreate ourselves has never waned. Much like a classic blues song or a fingerprint, as similar as they may seem to be, no two manifestations of these things can ever be the same. For as long as I have memory, I have always been attracted solely to rendering people as a vehicle to express the joy, heartache, idiocy, courage, insecurities, quirks and countless other emotions and attractions that we all share.”https://www.instagram.com/buddymadeit/Host - Trey MitchellIG - treymitchellphotographyIG - feeding_the_senses_unsensoredFB - facebook.com/profile.php?id=100074368084848Sponsorship Information  -  ftsunashville@gmail.comTheme Song - The Wanshttps://www.thewansmusic.com/

(Connor - Oil Painting)   In this episode, I had the honour of having Connor as my guest. He shared with me his interest in oil painting as his hobby.   Definition: Oil painting is a painting method involving the procedure of painting with pigments with a medium of drying oil as the binder. It has been the most common technique for artistic painting on canvas, wood panel or copper for several centuries, spreading from Europe to the rest of the world. The advantages of oil for painting images include "greater flexibility, richer and denser colour, the use of layers, and a wider range from light to dark". But the process is slower, especially when one layer of paint needs to be allowed to dry before another is applied. Wikipedia contributors. (2024, February 13). Oil painting. I  ad Scott Burdick on today. What an interesting man. We had a very long talk and the reason it was so long was we went over a lot of subjects. It wasn't just a podcast about a painter talking about painting. I would say painting was something we discussed the least. We went deep into his belief system, how he sees the world, and how his creativity flows through different fields, not just traditional art, which is what most people know him for. He's also a writer and he works in film, making documentaries. He's so much more than just an artist so it was great to explore that side of him. Scott Burdick is just a really deep, profound person. It's a fun interview. I highly recommend taking the time to listen to both episodes. You can see what life can be like if you let creativity take over.  So I had a great time and the two and a half hours flew just like that. So this is part two of Scott Burdick on episode 281 of the Art Dealer Diaries Podcast.

In this episode, I speak with Ernesto Gonzalez. Ernesto shares with me his incredible life trajectory, from modest beginnings in Chile to the inner workings of the UN's Security Council. Ernesto grew up in poverty, where one pair of shoes had to last for an entire year. His story is one that combines focus and grit with openness to chance encounters - such as the offer to help pay for his stay in the US to learn English, a step that changed his life. I was fascinated by how Ernesto found his way from there into a diplomatic career, then making himself useful to a series of countries in their engagements with the Security Council. Ernesto's outlook on leadership and life is refreshingly optimistic, and I hope you'll enjoy his inspiring words as much as I did.Recorded on 18 December 2023.Instagram: @at.the.coalfaceConnect with Ernesto on LinkedIn at linkedin.com/in/ernesto-gonzalez-77a53833.And don't forget to subscribe to At the Coalface for new episodes every two weeks.Help us produce more episodes by becoming a supporter. So many of the podcasts that I do deal with Western art, but rarely do I have an artist that epitomizes what it means to be a "Western artist" the way that Teal Blake does.  Teal was raised in Montana and he's been in the West his whole life and currently lives in Texas. Not only does he have the credentials of being a Western individual, but he was a professional cowboy for seven years as part of the rodeo circuit. To take that life experience and translate it into how he paints and sees the world, provides an authenticity that you rarely see in the average Western artist. Teal has said authenticity in spades. He also has a father who is a very interesting guy, Buckeye Blake,  a well-known artist who does, not only illustrative type art but sculptural works that live in front of some major museums. His mother is very artistic in her own right and was friends with Richard Avedon, who was such an important photographer. So a unique story, no doubt, and one that I think you'll find very, very compelling. I know I did. Art Dealer Diaries Podcast number 261 with Teal Blake.

I had a Russell Case on the podcast today. I'm such a fan of his artwork. He captures the Southwest in a way that few others do. In this podcast, we delve into what it means to paint and how he tries to paint like how a musician makes music, which is a very interesting concept to me. We cover the struggles that he had to go through to get where is today and how all of these experiences, while difficult, made him a better artist.Russell will be the first to tell you that it doesn't happen overnight. We had a long discussion about what it takes to become a professional artist. I think Russell's words in this podcast are valuable to painters of all skill levels and I enjoyed it a lot.
