Tiger Talk Podcast by Northeast Mississippi Community College

Northeast Mississippi Community College president Dr. Ricky G. Ford sits with Marketing and Public Relations Specialist Liz Roark to talk about the Northeast chorus/choir and how it joined with Itawamba Community College and the North Mississippi Symphony Orchestra's children's choir to help bring Christmas joy to the region on Saturday, December 10 and how the president wants to see more cooperation between the college and the community to bring more culture to the area. The duo also discusses how events such as the chorus/choir concert help to foster Northeast's relationship with the community. In the second half of the interview, Roark and Ford talk about the college's designation as an Apple Distinguished School, how that designation plays into the teaching philosophy and what Northeast can do in the future to keep the high standard of using technology in the classroom. For those who may have missed an episode, all Northeast TigerTalk episodes are archived at https://nemcctigertalk.simplecast.com.

Miami Dolphins Tales From The Deep Tim Bowens made an immediate impact with the Miami Dolphins, who selected the massive defensive tackle in the first round of the 1994 draft despite the Okolona, Mississippi native having played just nine games of NCAA football. Bowens would be named NFL Rookie of the Year that season and would go on to anchor the Dolphins defensive front from 1994-2004 with a mythlike strength and toughness that is still marveled at to this day. In a rare interview for the Pro Bowl defender, “Timbo” reflects upon life in Okolona (2:40), details his journey from Itawamba Community College to Ole Miss (5:05), and recalls a hometown, pre-draft visit he received from Pro Football Hall of Famer and then-Miami Dolphins defensive line coach, “Mean” Joe Greene (9:05). Tim also reveals the hilarious details of his first-ever conversation with Don Shula after the coaching icon selected him in the first round of the 1994 NFL Draft and explains why hazing attempts by veteran players got really ugly, really fast (11:20). The big man in the middle also discusses the mindset necessary to play defensive tackle in the NFL (19:05), opens up about the transition from Coach Shula to Jimmy Johnson (27:08), reveals his role in Jack Del Rio's short-lived Dolphins tenure (29:13), and provides more insight as to what made Zach Thomas a special player (34:50). Finally, Timbo dominates The Fish Tank Two-Minute Drill like only he can (46:45). Contributors to this episode include Sean “DJ Prec” Todd, Alex Bitchatchi, and Dolphins Productions. Tiger Talk Podcast by Northeast Mississippi Community College

In episode 174 of the TigerTalk podcast presented by Northeast Mississippi Community College, host Will Kollmeyer welcomes Northeast president, Dr. Ricky G. Ford, to the podcast as Kollmeyer and Ford sit down to discuss a variety of topics that are happening at the college. This week's episode marks 71 straight weeks for Ford as the president steps to the forefront to talk about everything Northeast Mississippi Community College. Ford's focus this week is on a busy Northeast campus. Northeast has wrapped up a run between September 28 and October 28 that held many events including the final home football game on Thursday, October 28. Not only was that Sophomore night for the Tiger football team, that ended in a win, but it was also Pink Out, Legislative Appreciation Night, and the Tent-or-Treat along with the community-wide tailgate. While the weather wasn't to everyone's liking, the Tigers came out on top just like Northeast does with many of its events as everything pre-game was moved inside and the Tigers took the victory over the Holmes Bulldogs on a sloppy Tiger Stadium playing surface. Northeast continues with its busy schedule with the Workforce Summit in the Claude Wright Room of the Haney Union on Wednesday, November 3 with some high-ranking state dignitaries attending the one-day affair. More events are planned for the rest of the semester including Brenda Mayes' Lady Tigers hosting Itawamba Community College on Thursday, November 4, a Christmas Social and many more events throughout the remaining month or so of the fall semester.

In this week's update, Dr. Ford welcomes all listeners and talks about a variety of different topics including a recap of the Fall 2020 semester and a preview of the Spring 2021 semester as the college puts a focus back on face-to-face classes. Allen Drive/Veterans Boulevard and then back along Church Street to make sure that all of our students are safe. This will also include new crosswalks for those making the trek across Church Street from Hines Hall to the Baptist Student Union, Mississippi Hall, or the Band Practice Field down SMU Drive. In addition to the second round of the MDOT funding, Ford talks about the college's application for GEARS grants through the Mississippi governor's office and how they will benefit the college.
