You're spending time together. Dinners, dog walks, evenings on the couch. Nobody's fighting, nothing is obviously broken. Something feels completely off and you can't quite point to it. In this episode I walk through seven signs your partner might be emotionally checked out, even when everything looks fine from the outside. What this episode coversSign 1: Questions that became routine rather than curious, and why knowing what's happening in your partner's life makes you better at asking the follow-upSign 2: Physical affection quietly dropping, not just sex but the small everyday moments of touch, and why this can happen so slowly that hugging each other starts to feel slightly foreignSign 3: Managing each other instead of talking, when the relationship starts to run like a workplace, and why that efficiency is a warning sign rather than a sign of maturitySign 4: The phone as a barrier and an escape, what it signals when someone reaches for their device in uncomfortable moments, and the case for tech-free time togetherSign 5: They stop mentioning the things that bother them, why silence in a relationship isn't always peace, and what it actually means when someone stops trying to bring things upSign 6: They stop showing up for the moments that matter, from milestones and anniversaries to tough days, and how what counts as showing up changes over timeSign 7: No more future talk, why planning together is one of the clearest signals of investment, and what it means when those conversations fall off the radarWhy this usually develops: missed bids for connection, fights that end in stonewalling without repair, and a slow accumulation of unresolved thingsHow to start the conversation without putting your partner on the defensiveWhen to get outside support and what that might look likeTimestamps0:00 Introduction1:30 Sign 1: Questions that became routine5:30 Sign 2: Physical affection drops8:00 Sign 3: Managing each other not talking9:30 Sign 4: The phone13:30 Sign 5: They stop sharing what bothers them16:00 Sign 6: They stop showing up for big moments19:00 Sign 7: No more future talk20:30 Why it develops and how to start the conversationResources and LinksRelationship Reset course: marievakakis.com.auFree Conflict Workbook: marievakakis.com.auConnected Teens parenting courseMarathon sessions at The Therapy Hub: thetherapyhub.com.auConnected Teen: marievakakis.com.auKeep the Conversation GoingGot a question or something this episode stirred up? If you've ever looked at your child's behavior and thought, “What is going on right now?”—you're not alone. In this episode, we go beyond surface-level parenting advice and get into something deeper: what your child's behavior is actually trying to communicate. Wendy Snyder introduces a powerful framework that helps you “translate” your child's actions in real time. Instead of reacting with frustration, you'll start to see patterns, unmet needs, and opportunities to teach life skills. It's a shift that can completely change how you experience everyday parenting moments.Along the way, you may find yourself rethinking what it really means to be a “strict” parent, and whether the strategies you've been using are actually helping in the long run.In this episode, you'll learn:The four hidden reasons behind most misbehaviorHow to tell if your child is seeking attention, power, revenge, or supportWhy punishment often makes behavior worse instead of betterWhat to do when your child says hurtful or dramatic thingsHow to stay calm when your child is upset with your rulesThe difference between firm boundaries and “strict” parentingHow to stop power struggles before they escalateWhy your mindset matters just as much as your parenting strategyIf you've been feeling stuck in cycles of frustration or wondering why nothing seems to “work,” this conversation will give you a new lens to look through ... and a few moments that might just change how you respond the next time your child pushes back.Did you miss part 1 of this episode? If yes, this conversation is for you. This month I'm joined by my friend and non-profit communications consultant Erin Straza, and together we get refreshingly honest about something so many of us quietly wrestle with: procrastination. Not the lazy kind, the kind that comes from caring deeply about getting it right. We talk about why hesitation is often just protection in disguise, and how perfectionism can keep your dream simmering on the back burner indefinitely. If you struggle with procrastination too, here's what I want you to hear: that stalling isn't a character flaw. It's a sign of how much this dream matters to you.IN THIS EPISODE, WE EXPLORE:Why trusting God and acting on that trust can feel like two very different thingsHow dreaming about the future can quietly replace doing the work of todayWhat your personal wiring has to do with choosing your next right stepWhy imperfect progress beats perfect stillness — every single timeI also share something I believe wholeheartedly: everything we do is just practice. Matthew and Riki welcome special guest Mandy Kaplan, comedian and host of the Make Me a Nerd podcast. They explore the journey of discovering nerd culture later in life, breaking down stereotypes about who gets to be a "nerd," and examining how mainstream and geek culture continue to merge in surprising ways. What defines someone as a "nerd" in today's culture?Mandy describes herself as a "mainstream mom" who loves Taylor Swift and Housewives but had always shied away from Star Wars, Star Trek, and other traditional nerd culture. Approaching 50, she decided to explore this world through her podcast, where guests introduce her to their favorite nerdy media. Matthew and Riki discuss how the definition of "nerd" has evolved, suggesting it's less about what you're interested in and more about how deeply you engage with it—whether that's creating charts about Star Trek planets or Top Chef recipes. How accessible should nerd media be to newcomers? The hosts discuss the balance between creating media for longtime fans versus welcoming newcomers. Mandy shares how she's learned to forgive herself for not understanding all the lore and background in some properties, instead focusing on the elements she can enjoy. They agree the best media works on multiple levels—like Sesame Street appealing to both children and adults—allowing both newcomers and devoted fans to find something meaningful. How has the perception of nerd culture changed over generations?Matthew reflects on growing up when nerds were socially ostracized, contrasting with today when Marvel movies dominate the box office. They discuss how the internet and streaming services have transformed nerd culture from niche to mainstream, creating communities for people who might not excel in traditional social settings. Riki points out how fantasy sports have bridged the traditional gap between "jocks" and "nerds."What unexpected connections do people find in nerd culture? The conversation highlights surprising moments of connection, like Mandy's encounter with a "Kardashian-looking" stranger who enthusiastically discussed the same fantasy novel she was reading. They explore how media that might seem designed for specific demographics often resonates across unexpected audiences when given a chance.Other topics discussed:The stigma attached to certain media and how it affects people's willingness to try new thingsHow streaming services have revolutionized access to niche contentThe philosophical and ethical questions embedded in science fiction and fantasyThe blurring lines between traditional "nerdy" activities and mainstream interestsThe gatekeeping sometimes found in fan communities and why it's problematicHow fantasy sports represent a form of nerdy engagement that's become widely acceptedShows like Severance and The Orville that surprised Mandy with their emotional depthThe Power of Curiosity Over JudgmentThe episode concludes with a reflection on approaching media with curiosity rather than judgment. Matthew quotes Ted Lasso's speech about being curious instead of judgmental, applying it to how we engage with different forms of entertainment. Mandy emphasizes how her podcast isn't about criticizing beloved franchises but finding what resonates personally, even in unexpected places. The hosts celebrate how nerd culture continues to expand and welcome new fans, creating connections across different interests and generations.Check out Mandy's podcast Make Me a Nerd, also on the TruStory FM podcast network. **************************************************************************This episode is a production of Superhero Ethics, a The Ethical Panda Podcast and part of the TruStory FM Entertainment Podcast Network. Today is Thanksgiving in the U.S., so I'm sharing a simple gratitude practice that you can do as a family, along with a guided gratitude meditation. What you focus on is what you create more of. When you focus on things that bring you joy and delight, you're going to feel better and more positive about your life. You'll Learn:Why your kid isn't wrong for wanting thingsHow to flip the wish list into a simple family gratitude practiceWhat I'm thankful forA guided meditation to bring more gratitude into your lifeGratitude is a powerful tool for feeling more content in your life. Instead of chasing after something new, better, different, more, we can learn to appreciate the things we have.-------------------------------------The Antidote to EntitlementIf you're reading this around the time it comes out, we're heading into the holiday season. If you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah or another gift-giving holiday, your kids probably have gifts on the brain. First, I want to remind you that this is normal. Kids naturally have a lot of desire. It's okay for them to want things and ask for things. It's also okay for them to not get those things and feel disappointed. But, if you've worried that your kid is going to be spoiled, entitled or always wanting, wanting, wanting…The antidote is gratitude. A Simple Family Gratitude PracticeThis gratitude practice is about being okay with desire, wants and the wish list. In fact, this exercise is kinda like a wish list in reverse. Challenge your kids (and yourself) to ask themselves…What are some things that you used to want that you now have?Look back on these things and take a moment to be grateful for them. It doesn't have to be formal, or even written down. Just start a conversation. You can use some of the prompts below to get you started:Do you remember what was on your wish list last year? Did you get it? Isn't it amazing that you used to want something, and now you have it? Do you still love it? Are you glad you have it? It doesn't have to be stuff. You can also express gratitude for an experience, relationship or opportunity. We're cultivating the ability to reflect and be thankful, challenging the brain to think of things in a slightly different way. This podcast was something I wanted for a long time. I am so thankful for you and for the opportunity to share the things I've learned. I'm grateful for my difficult experience as a mom because it allows me to connect with you and help make your life a little bit easier and more calm.If you want to listen to the guided meditation in the podcast recording, you can find it at [8:54].I wish you a joyful holiday and lots of love and gratitude in your life. Maybe I'm just a weirdo or I just think too much, but I often see parallels and lessons from so many life events that I believe we can learn from to help us in other areas of life. This happened recently when Hurricane Helene passed over where I live in the state of Georgia and then went on to have a devastating impact on parts of Tennessee, western North Carolina, as well as parts of south Georgia. There are probably hundreds of things we can learn from this hurricane, but today, I want to share 5 things this storm taught me about our brain, body, and your pursuit of weight loss (and really, just life in general). We'll cover . . . How our brain is wired to react to scary stuffSomething that's true with storms and just about everything else in lifeThe wise thing to do when we're worried or overwhelmedThe good part about really bad thingsHow a “nervous system fire” might be making you miserableCOREY'S ANTI-DIET CLASS: http://www.AntiDietClass.comFREE MENOPAUSE DOWNLOAD: http://coreylittlecoaching.com/menopausePURCHASE RISE NUTRITION PRODUCTSWebsite: https://challenge2rise.com/Elite Omega-3 on Amazon: https://a.co/d/3dgilSGEssential Nutrients on Amazon: https://a.co/d/6rcULakElite Nutrients on Amazon: https://a.co/d/duQn1TD

The Marianne Williamson Podcast: Conversations That Matter

Today I see the miracle in all thingsHow often I do not notice the miracles all around me, or honor all the kindnesses shown me, or allow myself to fully embrace the good that's already in my life. Today I remember that every day is precious, every heart carries within it the Spirit of God, and every event contains the platform for a miracle. May I not be blind today to the awesomeness of life.May the days be gone when I took for granted all the blessings in my life. May my eyes be open, that I might see more beauty; may my ears be open, that I might hear more truth; may my spirit be open, that I might feel the tender touch of God.Today I see through a different set of eyes, that I might recognize the miracles all around me. I see the sparkle of light that surrounds all things and the yearning for love that exists in everyone. I see the innocence beyond guilt and the love beyond all fear. Thus I am reborn into the truth of who I am.Today I see the miracle in all things This is a public episode.
