Part 2 Shaun O Dowd chats about his life in show business with Michael Lyster ... The Showbands were a particularly Irish phenomenon that evolved from the strict-tempo dance-bands of the early 1950s. Until that point Irish music was dominated either by traditional music or the big-band orchestras and balladeers. When Irish teenagers started to hear the new rock n' roll from the US and the UK, reflecting the changing tastes, the Irish Showband was born. They played upbeat rhythm and blues and pop music with one aim – to get people dancing. A second wave of showbands arrived in the late sixties and early seventies playing a rock, blues and soul style these bands were more popular in Dublin and other urban areas, while in the rural areas bands more influenced by country and western were very popular.

Showband Legends - Michael Lyster meets Sean O'Dowd: Pt1 by Senior Times

IN this special bonus episode, Podaganda's Steve Sweeney speaks with Stephen Travers: musician, campaigner and survivor of the Miami Showband massacre. In July 1975, one of the most notorious events of The Troubles took place in County Down in the north of Ireland. Three members of one of the most popular bands at the time, the Miami Showband, were shot dead by Loyalist paramilitaries at what appeared to be a British Army checkpoint. Sweeney spoke to bass player and survivor Stephen Travers, who has pursued a 40-year quest for justice amid a cover-up and the alleged involvement of the British state. In the second half of the podcast, Northeast vice president for institutional advancement and the executive director of the Northeast Development Foundation and Alumni Association D. Patrick Eaton makes a stop on the podcast -- his first since September 11, 2018 -- as Eaton discusses breaking news from the Development Foundation as they have extended their scholarship deadline to the end of this week -- Friday, March 22 instead of March 15. In addition to breaking the news of the scholarship deadline extension, Eaton talks about all the different ways to give to the Development Foundation and how one can become a member of the NEMCC Alumni Association for as little as $25 a year. Eaton gives an update on the Field of Dreams campaign and lists off a pair of major donors to the project that will let the Field of Dreams become an even better venue than what was originally planned with massive video boards to enhance the experience of the games. With graduation fast approaching, Eaton also talks about all the ways that the Foundation can help students and even gives some tips on how students can benefit from the process by filling out three minor forms that help their chances with financial aid, MTAG and the tuition guarantee program.

Yes, it's true. There is a band over in Ireland, that has been raking in money by mocking Indigenous cultures for 40 years This group of Irishmen dress up in pseudo "Native American" garb, fingerpaint on their faces, and each has a stage name that is stolen from a respected Indigenous Warrior or Holy Man. They claim to play country & western music, with songs like "Wigwam Wiggle". They have at least two Facebook FanPages, and several videos on Youtube. Here is a history of the Band: http://www.irish-showbands.com/Bands/casinop.htm This stereotyping and cultural mockery is the lubricant that allows for the genocide to go down all that more smoothly. They've gotten away with this for 40 years, but now, thanks to the internet - they have been exposed. Help us to have them erased from the internet, and forced into retirement. They have made enough money making fun of our Cultures. http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/event.php?eid=110714922354367
