Dr Janice Baker, Veteran, Veterinarian, Thespian Dr Janice Lauren Baker has had an amazing career. She started out working with horses with a plan to become an equine veterinarian. She then joined the army and served 22 years in the U.S. Army and Army Reserve, over half of this time in Special Operations assignments.  Special Ops People!!!! She spent the bulk of her military career taking care of working dogs. In addition to having worked over 20 years in emergency practice, she is a board-certified specialist in Veterinary Preventive Medicine with a Master's Degree in Veterinary Forensics. Sarah didn't know that being board-certified in Veterinary Preventative Medicine was a thing either. She is now a part time ER veterinarian and runs a Veterinary Forensics Consulting business, taking care of law enforcement on animal-related cases. Janice started acting professionally in her mid-fifties as a sort of "retirement hobby." This quickly turned into getting work in film, television, and commercials. Not afraid to be typecast, she has played the body on crime shows several times, along with crazy cat ladies, nosy neighbors, and most recently, The President of the United States of America! Janice is known for her comedic, improvisation, and character actor work. I loved everything about talking to Janice. She is fascinating, inspirational and humble!   Instagram https://www.instagram.com/janicetheactor/ Thanks for listening to Comedicine! In this final episode of 2023, our guest is Janice Baker, also known on Instagram and Youtube as @janicetheactor.    Janice has built a rapidly growing fan base taking us behind the scenes with her as an actor starting out later in life.    Janice started acting professionally after a 20 year career as a veterinarian and Army officer. She is known for her improvisational and comedic style but also has the distinction of being "murdered" and playing the body multiple times on television crime shows, because, well, you have to start somewhere.     Janice's journey is more than a career shift; it's a testament to the power of embracing one's age. With humility and humor, she reflects on the changing landscape of her roles, demonstrating that being a late bloomer can lead to unexpected opportunities.

Janice Baker served 22 years as a Veterinary Corps Officer in the US Army on active duty and Army reserve, with most of this time in special operations medical and canine units.  Along with multiple deployments in support of special operations canine programs, Janice also gained extensive experience designing and running large-scale, realistic medical training exercises.  As she transitioned to civilian life and feeling like her entire identity had vaporized, she pursued acting first as a hobby to “figure out what she actually liked to do other than Army stuff,” which grew into a professional career in television, film, and commercials. She soon realized that from a leadership standpoint, producing and directing productions on-camera was very similar to running those large-scale training exercises, and now enjoys her next chapter in life working professionally as an actor, screenwriter, producer, and director.  https://www.instagram.com/janicetheactorSupport the show
