More than a third of Black workers report being treated unfairly in the workplace in the past year because of their race or ethnicity, a survey released in May 2021 revealed by the Society for Human Resource Management found. That number rises to 42% for Black workers over a longer time period of five years, the Cost of Racial Injustice report found. The percentages for Asian workers was 26%, while 21% of Hispanic or Latino workers said they were unfairly treated during the five-year period. For white workers, the number was 12%. Jared Karol is on a mission to change the conversation surrounding racism in the workplace. Jared is the author of the book, A White Guy Confronting Racism. For nearly ten years, Jared Karol has fundamentally changed the mindsets of executives, senior leaders, change agents, and teams across the corporate, financial, non-profit, media, government, and Startup sectors. Through speaking, coaching, leadership development, and facilitating reflective and actionable conversations about antiracism, he's helped literally thousands of individuals at dozens of organizations be more inclusive, more self-aware, more antiracist, and more empathetic. Jared brings his full authentic, compelling, vulnerable humanity to everything he does and says, modeling what it means for a White guy to show up in unapologetic support of Black people and their lived experiences. He joined me this week to tell me more. For more information: https://jaredkarol.com/ LinkedIn: @Jared Karol About the book: https://www.awhiteguyconfrontingracism.com/

Connection is about seeing the common humanity in others. We are all related by this common thread, and when we are out of alignment with this idea of interrelationship, we do a disservice not only to ourselves but the environment we occupy every day. Join us as we talk about bringing yourself into alignment and then walking in the integrity of your authenticity so that you can connect more fully with others. As human beings, we are a product of conditioning, instinct, and evolution that teaches us about the dangers of curiosity. However, as we move from hunter-gatherer communities siloed by distance and culture toward an increasingly connected and shared world, curiosity becomes more important; the things we can learn from diverse human interaction can help us approach new experiences with a wider set of knowledge or skills to face a complex world. Join us as we discuss how to encourage a curious mindset within ourselves. Embracing curiosity means embracing a growth mindset rather than a fixed mindset, and then confronting whatever fragility we carry, that prevents us from admitting that we don't know something, and could be better by knowing. Curiosity is critical to building our capacity for caring and understanding others. Jared Karol is on a mission to help mission-driven entrepreneurs develop and share their unique stories. As CEO and Founder of Storytelling for Good, he coaches business owners on how to develop their origin story then share it with the world. On this episode, he delves into why sharing your personal business story (on your website, social media, and at networking events) is the most powerful way to develop an emotional connection with your target audience. By authentically connecting with your ideal customers through storytelling, your business will attract and retain loyal clients. Grab a cup of tea and tune in to Jared's advice - learn why sharing your story is what will make your brand unforgettable. When Jared was 14, his father told him he was gay. This new reality totally changed the trajectory of his life. Growing up in 80s in the San Diego suburbs, homosexuality wasn’t a part of his existence. In fact, diversity of any sort––people, perspectives, cultures, ideas––was severely lacking. But things were changing, and his thinking was evolving. Visiting his father in San Francisco through his high school and college years exposed him to new ideas and a more expansive way of looking at the world. Over time, curiosity led him out of his comfortable provincial bubble, and he began to realize all that he had missed by growing up in a homogeneous environment. On September 29, 2000, Jared’s father died of AIDS. Shortly after, he moved up to San Francisco to immerse himself in a more socially conscious and diverse environment. Values such as empathy, collaboration, and inclusion became central to his world view, and he has applied them to his professional and personal life ever since––as a teacher, a writer, a parent, and a community member. He helps social entrepreneurs communicate the value of their business through storytelling and writes about diversity and inclusion in tech, education, and other industries.
