On this episode of Pilot Season Cartoon Edition, hosts Kinte, Renee, Jen, John, and Allen break down the pilot episode of Star Wars: Clone Wars (2003), “Chapter 1,” which originally aired on November 7, 2003.    In this opening chapter, the Clone Wars begin as the Republic faces the growing threat of the Separatists and their massive droid army. The episode quickly throws viewers into battle, showcasing the fast-moving, stylized action of the series while introducing the Jedi as powerful warriors in the middle of a galaxy-wide conflict. With striking animation, intense combat, and the larger Star Wars mythos hanging over every moment, the pilot sets the tone for a bold and action-heavy animated saga.   Podcast airdate: 5/28/26   #StarWarsCloneWars #PilotSeasonCartoonEdition #CloneWars2003     John 10 Allen 8 Jen 9.5 Kinte 9 Total: 36.5     Brief history Star Wars: Clone Wars (2003) was a 2D animated micro-series developed and directed by Genndy Tartakovsky for Lucasfilm and Cartoon Network Studios. It premiered on Cartoon Network on November 7, 2003 and ran for three seasons and 25 chapters through March 25, 2005. The series was designed to bridge Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, using short-form episodes at first and then longer chapters in its final season. Its stylized action, fast pacing, and cinematic presentation helped it stand out, and the series won major animation awards during its run.   The show became especially notable because it brought Tartakovsky's sharp visual style into the Star Wars universe, giving the Clone Wars era a more mythic, action-heavy feel than viewers had seen before. It focused on Jedi, clone troopers, and major prequel-era characters while expanding the scale of the war in a compact animated format.    Main cast and who they played: Mat Lucas — Anakin Skywalker James Arnold Taylor — Obi-Wan Kenobi Tom Kane — Yoda, Narrator

Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones continues his historical review of the relationship between church and state. Building on his previous sermon, he presses the listener to consider church history in this sermon on Romans 13:1–7 titled “Church and the State (3).” It is important, he argues, because there is no neutral ground. It is all relevant to the life of Christ's followers and how they live out those lives. Claiming disinterest and avoidance is a great sin. As Dr. Lloyd-Jones expounds on the lives of the Puritans and Separatists (both groups had deep-rooted interest in this topic), he reminds that these two were completely different in their approach towards church and state. Though the Puritans went to America to find relief from religious tyranny, they themselves became the religious and ecclesial tyrants who were intolerant. At the same time the Separatists argued for complete freedom between church and state, wanting the religious freedom to worship as they chose. As these groups are considered, Dr. Lloyd-Jones cautions refraining from severe judgment because they were outworking new ideas and beliefs in a difficult political atmosphere. Listen to his compelling review on church history and be encouraged to think anew on one's own responsibilities regarding religious freedom. The China-United States summit has dealt a severe blow to the "pro-independence" stance of Taiwan's ruling Democratic Progressive Party and sent a clear warning to separatist forces, experts said.During his talks with US President Donald Trump on Thursday, President Xi Jinping underscored that safeguarding peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait remained the biggest common denominator between China and the US.Noting that the Taiwan question is the most important issue in China-US relations, Xi told Trump that if it is handled properly, the bilateral relationship will enjoy overall stability. Otherwise, the two countries will have clashes and even conflicts, putting the entire relationship in great jeopardy. Xi emphasized that "Taiwan independence" and cross-Strait peace are as irreconcilable as fire and water. In an interview with Fox News on Friday, Trump said: "I'm not looking to have somebody go independent," adding that Taiwan should not expect a "blank check" from the US military.Foreign Minister Wang Yi, while briefing the media about the summit on Friday, said: "During the meeting, we felt that the US side understands China's position, attaches importance to China's concerns, and, just like the international community, does not stand for or accept Taiwan moving toward independence."Liu Kuangyu, a researcher at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences' Institute of Taiwan Studies, said that at the landmark summit, China made clear its stance, its bottom line, propositions, and also sincere goodwill regarding Taiwan-related affairs."Rather than letting hostile sentiments spiral upward, the pragmatic exchanges reflected a shared readiness to reduce strategic miscalculations, mitigate cross-Strait tensions, and eliminate the risks of unintended military clashes," Liu said.He added that the proper and positive handling of the Taiwan question will substantially shape the outcomes achieved at the summit and determine how effectively the two sides can sustain constructive, strategic stability going forward.Liu said that if China and the US aim to solidify a major-country relationship over the coming years, the Taiwan question must serve as the primary entry point.Meanwhile, opposition parties and politicians in Taiwan severely condemned the ruling authorities for fabricating cross-Strait crises.Cheng Li-wun, chairwoman of the major opposition Chinese Kuomintang party, slammed the DPP's cross-Strait strategy, saying that "Taiwan independence" is a dead end that leads nowhere and the summit has shattered the DPP's international illusions.KMT lawmaker Niu Hsu-ting told reporters that the summit's ripple effects will gradually surface, and the US clearly signaled conflict reduction, pouring "cold water" over the DPP's long-held separatist stance and its flawed narrative of guaranteed military defense from the US.In a statement, Taiwan's Labor Party also warned that the DPP's separatist line remains the primary source of risk driving regional volatility. The party condemned the administration's continuous military expansion, specifically referencing the newly passed defense budget, of which NT$780 billion ($24.7 billion) has been earmarked for procuring arms from the US.It said that pouring vast public resources and taxpayers' money into endless weapon purchases directly sacrificed the livelihood of the grassroots.Looking ahead, Liu of the Institute of Taiwan Studies warned that the US must exercise the utmost prudence to prevent triggering a great-power confrontation and refrain from maintaining illicit ties with the Taiwan authorities across political, military, legal, economic and ideological domains."They must recognize that the past tactics of using Taiwan as a so-called pawn or tool to contain China have actually done more harm than good in the long run and ultimately boomeranged," he said.Only by translating political commitments into tangible actions can both nations consolidate the foundation of strategic mutual trust, he added.

This week marked an important milestone in the separatist campaign in Alberta. After months of getting people to sign their petitions to trigger a referendum on independence, the separatist leaders submitted their signatures to Elections Alberta for verification. But Elections Alberta cannot count the signatures right now. That's because of a court injunction that was put in place last month while a judge considers whether the treaty rights of some First Nations have been violated. It's one of many legal challenges the separatist movement in Alberta is facing. Matthew Scace is a Globe reporter based in Alberta. He'll explain the two major cases against the separatists, and what the leaders say they'll do if the courts don't rule in their favour. Questions? Comments? Ideas? Turkey boosts Mali defence ties after separatist and jihadist attacks

International report

Play Episode Listen Later May 2, 2026 5:17

Turkey's efforts to expand its influence in West Africa could be threatened by attacks on Mali's military regime, as Ankara pledges support while its growing security cooperation with Bamako faces new pressure. Ankara has strongly condemned attacks by Tuareg separatists and Al Qaeda-linked jihadists on Mali's military government. The attacks began last weekend, killed the defence minister and handed over control of key territory. Turkey has built ties with Mali over the past two decades, but since Mali's military rulers took power in 2021, that relationship has shifted sharply towards security. “Since 2010, that expansion has been much more rapid,” said Professor Sedat Aybar, director of the Asia Pacific Africa Studies Centre at Bahcesehir University in Istanbul. “It starts on humanitarian grounds and then evolves toward economic cooperation, followed by security and military aid, and capacity building for the Malian military, particularly against terrorist activities in the north.” Russia vows to keep forces in Mali despite warning from separatists to withdraw Security expansion Turkey has signed several security and defence agreements with Mali's military rulers, mainly focused on training and logistics. Defence sales have also increased, including advanced Turkish drones. Turkey's role has grown as Mali sought new security partners after expelling French forces in 2022. Russia remains Mali's main security partner, but Turkey is becoming more important as Bamako seeks to reduce dependence on Moscow. “We did see the late defense minister [Sadio Camara] going to Ankara on several occasions to sign bilateral agreements, but also to acquire drones and other equipment that would support the Malian army,” said Beverly Ochieng, senior analyst at Control Risks, a global risk consultancy. Turkish firms have sold Mali advanced drones, including the Akinci, she said, adding that Russian paramilitary forces in Mali have also acquired equipment through Turkey, “It's also by proxy, because the Russian paramilitaries, they have been acquiring equipment on their own behalf, but also for the Malian army via Turkey,” Ochieng said. Malian official accuses Russian forces of 'betrayal' after Kidal falls to rebels Regional ambitions Turkey's expanding security role in Mali is part of a broader Sahel strategy that also includes Burkina Faso and Niger. “Not just Mali, but the Sahel is very important. Cooperation with Burkina Faso and Niger is very important too,” said Melis Ozdemir, a PhD candidate at Galatasaray University studying Turkish-Malian relations. The military governments in Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger, all of which cut defence ties with France, have opened new opportunities for Turkish diplomacy and defence exports. “It's given Turkey a chance to increase its footprint, not just politically or diplomatically, but also it can show its military power, its drones, and its new military vehicles and equipment,” said Ozdemir. “I think Turkey is also testing its own military equipment in these regions.” Direct Turkish military intervention in Mali appears unlikely, Aybar said, but Ankara could still send military advisers if requested. “Nigeria requested Turkish military advisors to enhance Nigeria's capacity to fight Boko Haram, the terrorist organization in Nigeria, so Turkey is engaged in doing this,” said Aybar. “If the Malian government invites Turkey to do a similar thing in Mali, then Turkey will consider sending in experts and advisers to the military in Mali.” Turkey is also offering diplomatic support. “There could be a route through negotiations,” said Ochieng. “Turkey is one of the middle powers that is also trying to look for dynamic ways of resolving conflict. It's not just within the Sahel, but you've seen them try to be involved in the DR Congo, calling for dialogue between the warring parties,” Ochieng said. “Ankara and Istanbul have also become a point where armed groups are able to hold talks and to find mediated ways out of political and security crises."

It's Easter Monday, April 6th, A.D. 2026. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus India further restricts funding of foreign non-governmental organizations India's Christian community complains that federal amendments to the law on foreign funding give the government excessive power over organizations tied to minority religions like Christianity, reports International Christian Concern. They termed the amendments as “draconian” and “constitutionally suspect.” The Foreign Contribution Regulation Act is the channel through which all non-governmental organizations involved in charitable works receive foreign funding in the country. A key and contentious feature of the 2026 amendment is the creation of a “Designated Authority,” notified by the federal government, which will take provisional control of foreign contributions and assets in cases of cancellation, surrender, or cessation of registration. This control extends even to assets that are only partly funded through foreign contributions. The authority is empowered to supervise, manage, and maintain these assets. Unbelievably, the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has, during the past decade, revoked or suspended the FCRA registrations of more than 20,000 organizations. Fidel Castro's daughter: It's time for Cuban regime change Alina Fernández Revuelta, daughter of former Cuban leader Fidel Castro, has strongly criticized the communist regime her father launched in 1959, stating that Cuba is overdue for a new government, reports The Epoch Times. She fled Havana in 1993 at the age of 37 and settled in Miami, living a modest life much like that of other Cuban exiles. Born in 1956, Revuelta grew up in post‑revolution Havana, as part of the privileged revolutionary elite. Yet from a young age, she became aware of the realities of communism and later emerged as one of the most outspoken critics of her father's rule, which she described as oppressive. In an exclusive interview with The Epoch Times, she said, “For me, it's been time for a regime change since the late ‘80s. At the time Fidel Castro died, we were all thinking [his regime] had come to an end, because it was a very personalized and paternalist ... narcissistic government. ... But it survived.” Revuelta is the daughter of Fidel Castro and Havana socialite Natalia Revuelta, who had an affair in the mid-1950s while both were married to other people. She grew up with her mother and stepfather, and did not learn that Castro was her biological father until age 10. U.S. fighter jet shot down over Iran On April 3rd, a U.S. F-15 fighter jet was reportedly shot down over southern Iran, with Iranian state media claiming the regime downed the aircraft, reports One America News. The incident prompted search and rescue missions for the aircraft's two-person crew. Tehran's state media shared images of debris from the crash on Friday. According to Israeli officials, the United States dispatched search teams to the crash area, and so far, the teams have succeeded in rescuing one crew member, with the search for the second ongoing, reports The Epoch Times. The semi-official Tasnim News Agency, citing an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps statement, said U.S. forces were seen conducting a search operation in the area using Black Hawk helicopters and a C-130 Hercules aircraft. The incident comes amid mounting tensions as Trump's ultimatum for Iran to agree to a peace deal approaches an April 6 deadline, with talks showing little sign of progress. Tennessee legislature passes bill to stop mail-order Abortion Kill Pill The Tennessee General Assembly has passed legislation that would hold out-of-state distributors of Abortion Kill Pills accountable when the drugs are mailed into the state and result in the death of a preborn child, reports LifeNews.com. The goal of the bill is to stop mail-order Abortion Kill Pills that are killing thousands of babies and undermining the pro-life law Tennessee approved to protect unborn children from abortions. House Bill 5 creates a civil cause of action allowing certain family members, including the baby's mother, to file a wrongful death lawsuit against those who send abortion-inducing drugs into Tennessee. It provides for statutory damages of at least $1 million, if the plaintiff proves by a preponderance of the evidence, that the drugs caused the death of her preborn child. The bill, sponsored by GOP Rep. Gino Bulso, passed both the House and Senate and now heads to the desk of Tennessee Republican Governor Bill Lee for his signature. You can thank Rep. Bulso by calling (615) 741-6808 or sending him a one-sentence note to Rep. Gino Bulso, 425 Rep. John Lewis Way N. Suite 520, Cordell Hull Bldg., Nashville, TN 37243. President Trump unapologetic about Christian message In an address at the Oval Office on Good Friday, President Trump was unapologetic about the Christian message. TRUMP: “On Good Friday, the Son of God was nailed to the cross, crucified, and He died for all of us. It was a day of darkness, but it wasn't the end by any means. It was not the end. “On Easter Sunday, the stone was rolled away and the grave was empty. Christians everywhere rejoiced, and we continue to rejoice. Easter is one of the incredible days. It was the miracle in all of history, the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It was one of the great, it was the great miracle, I guess, right? (clapping) “With Christ, not one thing can separate humanity from the powers of God's everlasting love.” Romans 8:38-39 says, “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Martyrdoms of British Pilgrims Henry Barrow and John Greenwood And finally, when Queen Mary I assumed the throne in England in 1553, she made the Catholic Church in England and Wales once again to be the state religion. In her bloody zealousness to imprison and execute Protestants, she became known as Bloody Mary, after whom a spicy drink with tomato juice and vodka is named today. Early in 1586, Henry Barrow was converted to Christianity by a Puritan sermon in a church he had been walking past. Eighteen months later, he attempted to write a rebuttal of one of Robert Browne's separatist works, but instead was converted by it. Subsequently, Barrow became close friends with John Greenwood, a Separatist leader. Barrow and Greenwood led the London Underground Church, the illegal Brownist congregation, which had met in inns and private houses since the late 1560s during Bloody Mary's reign which ended in 1558. It began with 20 people and grew to 200.  Archbishop of Canterbury John Whitgift of the Church of England and high-ranking state officials ordered the executions of Henry Barrow and John Greeenwood under the 1592 Seditious Sectaries Act which criminalized any Brit's refusal to attend the Church of England. They were hung in London on April 6, 1593. Matthew 10:28 says, “Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.” William Bradford, Governor of the Plymouth Plantation in Massachusetts, cited that London underground church as the first that “professed and practiced the cause” of the Pilgrim Fathers.
