Sloat uses his real-life exploration of the paranormal and spiritism, while Featherston serves as the curious voice of the audience as they examine real-life stories of demonic possession, tracing the phenomenon from its earliest known accounts to its modern-day headlines. With help from noted experts in witchcraft, shamanism, exorcism, and parapsychology, Katie and Micah explore chilling cases throughout history and across cultures, challenging our understanding of the world—or worlds—around us. More about the guests: Micah Sloat is best known for his breakout role in the 2009 surprise smash Paranormal Activity. His performance earned him a Teen Choice Award nomination for Best Horror Film Actor, and he reprised his role in several Paranormal Activity sequels. Some may have factual origins, while others are completely fictional. But myths are more than mere stories and they serve a more profound purpose in ancient and modern cultures. Myths are sacred tales that explain the world and man's experience.   What is the purpose of a myth? People created myths thousands of years ago to tell how the world and things in it came to be. Myths also help to explain how people act or why things exist. What is a myth that explains something? An origin myth is something that cultures use to explain natural or social events in mythological terms. An example of this is the creation of the world through the tearing apart of a giant. What is classified as a myth?  A usually traditional story of ostensibly historical events that serves to unfold part of the world view of a people or explain a practice, belief, or natural phenomenon. What does a myth contain? While all myths are different, myths as such attempt to explain everyday phenomena. They typically involve gods or deities with supernatural powers, may or may not contain a hero or someone on a quest, and were passed down through oral tradition. Is a myth a lie or truth? The Oxford English Dictionary defines myth as a synonym for "untruth", "falsehood", or "lie". But the word has a long history and an equally long range of meanings.   Aaron Sagers ... is a Storyteller. An award-winning media personality and travel expert, he is a TV & on-camera host, producer, journalist, and author on a lifelong mission to make cross-cultural connections across the globe. Actor, comedian, and podcaster Rhys Darby returns to the show to talk about new episodes of The Cryptid Factor show, and all things monstrous and extraterrestrial — as well as the significance of his show Our Flag Means Death, which ended far too soon. You know Rhys Darby from Flight of the Conchords, the Jumanji reboots. the What We Do in the Shadows film, The X-Files revival, Hunt for the Wilderpeople, and most recently as the gentleman pirate Stede Bonnet in Our Flag Means Death alongside his buddy Taika Waititi. But Rhys Darby is also a fan of high strangeness, and is one-third of the long-running podcast The Cryptid Factor with Dan Schreiber, and Leon 'Buttons' Kirkbeck. Since 2008 they have passionately (and often awkwardly) been discussing 'cryptids' and monsters like Yeti, Chupacabra, Bigfoot and Nessie - as well as weird news of the world, UFO's, time travelers, robots and space stuff. Though they take these pseudosciences as seriously as they can, they struggle to take themselves seriously at all. Karen Gillan joins the show to talk about her new comedy film Late Bloomers, in theaters June 7 — as well as spooky Scottish stories, and the 10th anniversary of her film Oculus, directed by Mike Flanagan. Gillan went from Doctor Who fame to franchise movie star with roles in Guardians of the Galaxy, Jumanji, and Gunpowder Milkshake — as well as indie dramas All Creatures Here Below, and The Party's Just Beginning (which she wrote and directed). Now, with Late Bloomers, Gillan plays Louise, a 28-year-old Brooklynite adrift in life, who finds herself suddenly single and grappling with her identity as a musician. While she struggles with her underlying depression, a reckless drunken stumble lands her with a broken hip and leads to a stint in a physical therapy ward with patients twice her age. Here, she crosses paths with Antonina (played by Margaret Sophie Stein), a cantankerous elderly Polish woman who speaks no English. Reluctantly, Louise takes on the role of Antonina's caregiver, a situation neither of them welcomes. As they navigate their begrudging relationship, they confront the realities of aging, forcing Louise to consider her own journey into adulthood. _______________________________________________________________ Talking Strange Paranormal Podcast with Aaron Sagers is a weekly paranormal pop culture show featuring celebrity and author interviews, as well as learned experts in all things strange and unexplained. On March 8, 1994, more than 300 people across 42 counties of Michigan — and as far away as 200 Miles — saw strange lights above Lake Michigan for a period of several hours. Along with police officers, documented 911 calls, FAA operators, and other reliable witnesses, Jack Bushong of the National Weather Service was manning the radar, and tracking this strange phenomena. Bushong joins Talking Strange to discuss this occurrence, and is joined by Bill Konkolesky, state director of the Michigan Mutual UFO Network. About the guests: Jack Bushong grew up in Muskegon, Michigan, and knew from an early age that he wanted to be a meteorologist, having always been interested in the weather, astronomy, and science. He received a bachelor's degree in Meteorology from Florida State University in 1988 and was 29 years old when he was working at the National Weather Service in Muskegon on the night of a dramatic UFO event he tracked on radar. Shortly after the event, he moved to Georgia and became a hydro-meteorologist. He retired in 2016, after an illustrious career with numerous awards and promotions, and now wants to share what happened on the night of March, 8, 1994. Bill Konkolesky has been State Director of the Michigan Chapter of the Mutual UFO Network since 2004. He joined in the organization in 1993 after reporting some of his personal UFO encounters and now, along with his MUFON responsibilities, also does frequent public presentations on the phenomenon and has contributed to numerous UFO related books and television productions. He's also the author of Experiencer: Raised in Two Worlds, and returns to the Talking Strange show for a second time. _______________________________________________________________ Talking Strange Paranormal Podcast with Aaron Sagers is a weekly paranormal pop culture show featuring celebrity and author interviews, with a weekly "Small Talk" mini-sode with reader submitted letters and spooky tales. Who were the Victorians, why were they so fascinated with the paranormal, and how are they continuing to influence our notions of the unexplained? Séances, paranormal investigations, fortune telling, and other spiritualist practices helped define the Victorian era and continue to shape our world today. In the time of Jack the Ripper, A Christmas Carol, Dracula, and Edgar Allan Poe, spiritualism and the supernatural were cultural touchpoints. In the book Spirits, Seers & Séances: Victorian Spiritualism, Magic, & the Supernatural, author Steele Alexandra Douris explores how Victorians, and spiritualists have left such a profound impact on both the past and present — and how belief in ghosts, fairies, and nature spirits shaped our celebrations for All Hallows' Eve and Christmas More about the Author: Steele Alexandra Douris is an author, artist, and Victorianist, specializing in Victorian spiritualism, crime fiction, and the gothic novel. She is a PhD candidate in the English department at Stanford University, where she has taught courses on 19th century spiritualism and ghost stories. She holds an MA in English from Stanford University and a BA in anthropology from the University of Texas at Austin. _______________________________________________________________ Talking Strange Paranormal Podcast with Aaron Sagers is a weekly paranormal pop culture show featuring celebrity and author interviews, with a weekly "Small Talk" mini-sode with reader submitted letters and spooky tales.
