Kenny (SpaceyFCB) Hallaert has cashed for over $10 million in his live and online poker careers combined.Even though he has yet to take down the elusive major live tournament, it’s easy to say he’s seen way more than his fair share of success on the green felt. Some highlights of Kenny’s career thus far: 6th place in the 2016 WSOP Main Event for $1.4 million.3rd place in the 2017 WSOP $5k 6-Max event for $238k.1st place in the 2017 SCOOP $1k 8-Max for $147k.Kenny has racked up quite the laundry list of poker accomplishments…All before hitting the age of 40.In our conversation you’re going to hear where Kenny’s seemingly lifelong love of cards began, the hilarious story of he flipped satellite tickets for a year because of a silly law, and how he eventually fell into a gig organizing and marketing tournaments for his local casino in Belgium (Despite not having much real-world experience doing either). In today’s episode, you’re also going to learn:Why a football injury was a major catalyst in Kenny’s poker evolution. One of the major poker social pressures you don’t have to feel if you don’t want to.Why Kenny is happy just firing up any tournament, regardless of buy-in or prize pool. And much, MUCH more!So without any further ado, I bring to you the amazing Belgian crusher of live and online MTT’s Kenny Hallaert.

Kenny Hallaert is one of Belgium's top poker pros, having won more than $4.2 million in live tournaments, along with another $6.5 million online playing under the name 'SpaceyFCB.' The 38-year-old recently won his third SCOOP online title, and has four World Series of Poker final table appearances on his resume, along with four deep runs in the main event. In 2016, he finished sixth for nearly $1.5 million.Hallaert is currently no. 3 on Belgium's all-time money list, but despite his success, he never gave up his day job. He started his poker journey while working as an electrician, and then later took a marketing job at a local casino. He was tasked with bringing players to the property, and as a result helped to popularize live tournaments in Belgium. Eventually Hallaert took over duties as Tournament Director, and he has since worked EPT events for PokerStars, as well as Unibet.  Highlights from this interview working as an electrician, playing card games at the bar with mom, Dutch poker, how a football accident made him a better player, bringing tournaments to Belgium, his unusual path to tournament director, why he never gave up his day job, the mental game, Ivey the end boss, a brutal but important bad beat, burning a house down in Monte Carlo, the silver lining of a sixth-place finish, a lottery ticket in the WSOP, finishing the job he signed up for, bathroom stall gaps, double-cooked fries, factory work, the unbeatable Niklas Astedt, three-betting with industrial techno, and getting away with graffiti.

MTT Coach Gareth James and Peak Performance Consultant Dr. Tricia Cardner devote Episode 42 to discussing how to keep yourself focused and centered so that you can play more effectively. This is especially important if you find yourself getting nervous or anxious before you play. We will be expecting some fun reports from that! We shared a few tips and ideas for optimizing play during a series whether it is online or live (napping, caffeine use, and melatonin were all discussed). We also answered a question concerning how much of the pot a person can win if they enter it with only the ante in their stack. MTT Coach Gareth James and Peak Performance Consultant Dr. Tricia Cardner devote Episode 41 to discussing a recent slight ICM mistake that Gareth made as well as a deep run that he posted up in the Big $55. Gareth took us through some ICM calculations in a spot where 3 players are left and the two short stacks are close in size to each other and the deep stack has an overwhelming percentage of the chips. It turns out that we must call the deep stack’s push a lot tighter than we might imagine in this spot. We also discussed the fact that it is so important to focus on the fundamentals whether we are talking about strategy fundies or mental game fundies. Evolving has to be a constant process if you want to keep up with this game!On that note, Tricia shared a message she got from a colleague describing the connection he found between being tired and going on tilt. She explained several physiological reasons why that is so and outlines a number of tips to help you improve your sleep. Playing tired is definitely sub-optimal. On this special edition podcast, we talk to the sixth-place finisher in the 2016 World Series of Poker Main Event, Kenny Hallaert. For the next six weeks, we will talk to one person from the WSOP Main Event going back to 2011, as all that coverage will be available for you to enjoy on PokerGO. Hallaert takes us through the entire tournament and highlights the key moments that brought him to the November Nine. During the three-month break leading up to the final table, Hallaert received coaching from the likes of Fedor Holz and Steffen Sontheimer, as well as mental coaching from Jared Tendler. Despite having the best possible preparation, things didn't go Hallaert's way at the final table. Looking back on his big run now, Hallaert remembers fondly the feeling of making the big run, and he shows a lot of appreciation for the process and preparation that lead him to become a far better player with plenty of results to show for in the years after this big result.  If you have questions or recommendations for the podcast, please e-mail us on podcast@pokercentral.com. The World Series of Poker Main Event is down to just 85 players, and we spoke to no less than seven players still in the event.  Charlie Carrel headlined the PokerGO stream, and we spoke to him about the joy of going deep in the Main Event. Unfortunately, shortly after recording the podcast, Carrel was eliminated in 88th place cashing for $72,514. Just two more players hit the rail before the night ended, and the following players that joined us on the podcast bagged up chips. Scott Blumstein 6,845,000 Bryan Piccioli 5,400,000 Dario Sammartino - 2,858,000 Marcel Luske 2,290,000 Martin Finger 890,000 Blumstein, playing in this first WSOP Main Event, had a tough day with Ben Lamb on his left for most of it, but in the end, he bagged up a top stack. Piccioli started the 2016 Main Event on Day 5 with the chip lead, and this year he flew under the radar a bit more and managed to bag up a big stack after Day 5. With 85 players remaining he's only one spot removed from improving on last year's finish. Sammartino battled all day with Kenny Hallaert, and both players managed to make it through the day. Luske had a day filled with swing, ultimately securing himself the third best Main Event finish after finishing 14th in 2003 and 10th in the 2004 Main Event.  Last but not least, EPT champ Martin Finger bagged up a very short stack but he's still not out of it heading into Day 6. Tomorrow the action will play down to just 27 players, and a lot of that action will be live on PokerGO. The action starts on ESPN at 11:00 am PT/2:00 pm ET and switches over to PokerGO at 3:00pm PT/6:00pm ET/midnight CET.

In this episode, MTT Coach Gareth James and Mental Game Trainer Dr. Tricia Cardner tackle questions regarding how wide you should call shoves at a final table when you have a medium stack. Gareth explains that it is critical to react correctly to big stack shoves when there are small stacks on the table. It would be a disaster if you busted with a 25 bb stack when there are sub-20bb stacks on the table. He outlined the top-down approach that he uses to make these decisions while at the table. Dr. Tricia then answers a question regarding the pregame warmup. She shares a 4 step process that you can use to design a personalized warmup routine. You can also use this routine anytime you feel out of sorts at the table. If you want to maintain a focused, calm demeanor, then take the time to map out your own warmup. With guest Adam Small of PocketFives, Andrew and Alex discuss the outcome of this year’s WSOP Main Event final table, the unpredictable and entertaining style of its champion Qui Nguyen, the poor turnout for the PokerStars Festival New Jersey, and the US election, the results of which were not known at the time of recording. For strategy, it’s back to the November Nine, and a hand played between Kenny Hallaert and Michael Ruane during the first day.
