Chances are you'll recognize today's podcast guest! Laura Niemi plays Steve Carell's wife on FX's The Patient, now streaming on Hulu. #NoBigDeal She's also had roles on Stranger Things, Grey's Anatomy, This Is Us, Veep, and NCIS. If you've EVER considered leaving your reps, but were afraid to do so, her story carries a message I KNOW you'll relate to… Most actors think BIG TIME ROLES will make their career easy breezy. Hold up Covergirl! Yes, credits can help… But I'mma bet even Academy Award-winners Viola Davis & Olivia Colman worry if their reps do a good job putting them up for roles they're truly right for. At one point in their careers Viola & Olivia probably had a hard time saying goodbye to reps that weren't reeeeeaaaaaally working out. So before you decide that fancy credits solve everything

THIS IS US -- "Don't Let Me Keep You" Episode 604 -- Pictured: (l-r) Laura Niemi as Marilyn, Milo Ventimiglia as Jack -- (Photo by: Ron Batzdorff/NBC) This week's deeply emotional episode centered on the loss of Jack's mother and the long shadow of abuse and trauma cast by his father on both of their lives. In a season that will almost certainly end with the death of Rebecca surrounded by her loving family, Caroline and Paul examine the case of Marilyn. Thanks to the terror wrought by Stanley, she couldn't have the same type of relationship with her children and grandchildren as Rebecca. But that doesn't mean that she died sad and alone. As Jack Learned, she "built a new house" and found a new family. Guests: Oliver Laughland is the U.S. southern bureau chief for The Guardian and has been covering the Chauvin trial from Minneapolis. He was a lead reporter on the Guardian’s award winning project “The Counted”, which tracked every officer involved death in the US between 2015 and 2016. The trauma of sexual assault is both personal and brutal. But what may be an indisputably traumatic event for one person is often challenged by another, and the responsibility for events gets scattered in the process. Why is it so common for people to look for reasons to blame the victims of sexual assault for what has happened to them? Nastaran Tavakoli-Far finds multiple reasons from this, speaking to experts and to victims. We hear from Dr Mithu Sanyal about the role of long-standing attitudes towards gender and sexuality. New York Times journalists Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey tell us about power and the workplace and who is more likely to be believed. Dr Jackson Katz and Dr Laura Niemi explain the roles of both group dynamics and the language we use and how these often work to protect perpetrators rather than to support victims Presenter and producer: Nastaran Tavakoli-Far Editor: Andrew Smith (Photo: Protest sign held up during 'Slut Walk' protests against victim blaming in Munich, Germany / Credit: Alexander Pohl / Nur Photo / Getty Images)

In this conversation, Dr. John Doris and Dr. Laura Niemi talk with Dr. Daryl Cameron about the study of moral psychology: how and why do people act ethically and make moral judgments? Dr. Doris studies how empirical findings in psychology inform normative theories of ethics, and Dr. Niemi studies how social factors shape ascription of moral agency and moral rights. How can philosophers and psychologists work together to study these questions? What is the relationship between moral psychology and other areas of inquiry, and what are some of the exciting new directions in moral psychology?
