Join me as I sit down with emotional wellness expert Lauran Ware to uncover the truth behind how and why emotional storms fuel addiction. Lauran shares her personal journey through rock bottom, revealing how unresolved emotional trauma can drive dependencies—not just on substances but in relationships. Learn how emotional regulation, setting boundaries, and healing unresolved pain are crucial for real recovery. Discover powerful insights on overcoming addiction, navigating emotional triggers, and why Lauran believes that manifesting and pornography can be dangerously misleading in today's culture. Whether you're on your own recovery path or want to understand the emotional roots of addiction, this conversation offers hope and tools for true healing. More on Lauran - Lauran is an Emotional and Mental Wellness Therapist, Healer, and Teacher. She believes that healing emotional disturbances requires a capacity for insight. With a background in western Psychology, Lauran has gained a deep understanding of the diagnostic process. However, she believes that true healing comes from exploring the emotional and mental aspects of life, delving into the insights that help maintain emotional regulation. According to Lauran, individuals function optimally when they integrate all aspects of themselves. They can exist with quiet confidence and inner knowing when their internal world and external lives are in alignment. Lauran teaches individuals how to harness the power of their internal psycho-emotional landscape, navigate emotional storms, actualize their uniqueness, and approach life with resilience, power, and presence, regardless of the challenges they may be facing. Managing time effectively is critically important. The four S's of executive function skills: scholastic, study, social, and sensibility. As a parent, once your student is in college, your student's information cannot be given to you without signing a FERPA release, and even then it is not your place to be checking in with your student's professors. That is the student's responsibility. The demands on a high school student do not match up with their current executive function skills…and it isn't their fault. Notice what your student is doing well, and help them learn the skills that they may be struggling with.  “The right skills are one of the most important things you can do for them. Because after they get into college, they are kind of on their own, but they still need you. Open warm communication is really important. And then scaffolding as much as possible so that you can set them up to not only be successful, but happy because that's what we want.” – Lauran Kerr-HeralyAbout Lauran Kerr-Heraly: Lauran Kerr-Heraly is an award-winning educator and author who has dedicated her career to transforming lives through education. Your favorite teachers are off duty and looking at the role of pop culture in education. From reminiscing about our favorite teacher movies to cringing over creepy teacher portrayals, we discuss it all. Remember Ms. Frizzle? Or the Kindergarten Cop? Yeah, we dissect those too! Ever wonder how pop culture can aid classroom teaching? Lauran takes us back to her rockin' Wax Museum project, teaching history through the lens of Hall of Fame musicians. Gabe shows us how he turns up the volume in his class with music, teaching subconscious understanding through lyrical analysis. Don't worry, he'll explain what that means. We also tap into the fashion flashback and the hilarity of kids not knowing the pop culture references on their own shirts. Good or garbage with Gabe keeps it classic this week, as we debate the nostalgic thrill of the TV cart wheeling its way into the classroom. Is the TV cart good or garbage, we all know the answer! In the world of gaming, who can forget the good old Oregon Trail? We revisit some educational games and the unintended scares they gave us. Wrapping it up, we discuss how fictional Hogwarts classes could potentially stack up in a real-world curriculum. It's a pop culture frenzy you wouldn't want to miss. Summer Break is well upon us, so in this episode, we're diving headfirst into a pool of freedom, and resurfacing with hilarious tales from our sun-drenched (or not-so-sun-drenched) summer escapades. We kick off with what teachers REALLY do during the summer - yes, there's more to us than lesson plans and report cards. We share all teachers' unanimous need for a break.   Tell talks about the apparent difficulty of juggling parenting and teaching. Shout out to teachers who are also parents! Meanwhile, Gabe and Lauran put their summer fitness goals under the microscope, or should we say, 'under the ice cream scoop'?   Ever wondered what we did during the summers before we became the cool teachers you know and love? We reminisce about our worst summer jobs. Get ready for tales of spicy chicken wings, cleaning other people's mess, a summer of... kidney stones (whoa, Tell!), and a fling with phlebotomy that didn't end famously.   We wrap up the episode with a debate on summer PD and training in our segment, 'Good or Garbage'. So kick back, pop open a cold (name your favorite summer-time beverage), and get ready for a dose of fun, sun, and a fair share of 'we-can't-believe-that-happened'.   Summer Break, you're the BEST! _________________________ *Watch the full episode and more on our YouTube.* Subscribe to our newsletter! You probaly recognize the name Colonel Tom Kelly if you follow Mossy Oak and are aware of how we feel about him. This week on A Fist Full of Dirt we're going to share what may be the most incredible story I've ever heard about Tom Kelly. At age 96, he killed a longbeard with his daughter sitting next to him. This hunt was put together by a team of big hearted people led and assembled by Daniel Haas.  @dfoxhaas It was months in the planning and every tiny detail had to fall in place perfectly to make it happen. Daniel relives the planning, execution and Divine intervention that took place that is nothing short of incredible. Lauran and I both had tears in our eyes listening to this. The up's and downs, the close calls and emotions involved. This one is beyond special.    "The last one that ever does come to me will call forth the same emotion that the second one did. I will sit there waiting, gun up and heart thundering, and say to myself what I have said on every single occasion since the second one. "I'm glad I lived to see it one more time."
