THE TESTAMENTS – “Stadium” – As the Aunts sift through ancestry records to finalize matches, Agnes plots for her chance at love. Meanwhile, Lydia contemplates the choices that shaped her rise in Gilead. (Disney/Russ Martin)CHASE INFINITI What an episode! In “Stadium”, we finally looked into Lydia’s backstory. We’d gotten a peek only once during the entire run of The Handmaid’s Tale, but now we know where Lydia’s journey to becoming Aunt Lydia truly began. No one was more surprised than your hosts to see that Commander Judd had been there since the beginning. For better or worse, Aunt Lydia became what she needed to become as her drive to live her life according to her “resolve” fell to survival mode. We think Aunt Lydia has secretly switched back to “resolve” mode, but time will tell. THE TESTAMENTS – “Stadium” – As the Aunts sift through ancestry records to finalize matches, Agnes plots for her chance at love. Meanwhile, Lydia contemplates the choices that shaped her rise in Gilead. (Disney/Steve Wilkie)THE TESTAMENTS Meanwhile, during the current timeline, the Aunts converged and created matches between the new greens and the eligible commanders. Think of how much harder the process must have been, given their lack of access to technology! By hand, the Aunts must manage not only the political impacts of their decisions, but the limited gene pool in Gilead’s reproducing population. I wonder how close the relations can get before they nix a match. THE TESTAMENTS – “Stadium” – As the Aunts sift through ancestry records to finalize matches, Agnes plots for her chance at love. THE TESTAMENTS – “Ball” – At a debutante-style ball where Green girls are paraded before Commanders; the illusion of elegance begins to fray. Agnes discovers Garth's status has changed. (Disney/Steve Wilkie)CHASE INFINITI Agnes’ season 1 journey has led up to this point, the ball (or the prom as some call it) is her chance to make an impression on eligible commanders. The prospect of it all scares and excites her. The chances that she’s ever touched a man for an extended time are low – and that’s all she’s expected to do at the ball! For her, it’s overwhelming and exhilarating – for the viewers, it’s just sad and pretty uncomfortable watching the older men with the young women. Meanwhile, our supporting characters endured a much less exciting time. One of Becka’s dance partners offered to spike her drink – which she could not refuse. Shu and Daisy rally behind the scenes to try and help Becka minimize the damage her drunken stumbling could cause her chances to find a good match (little as she wants a match). Daisy learns that she doesn’t have an easy path out of Gilead through her Mayday connections from Garth. Now that we mention Garth, Mr. Perfect gets a chance to dance with Agnes, leaving her breathless and riddled with desire. And upon learning that Garth’s promotion to Commander is only a couple weeks away, her fantasies may indeed become reality. Paul and Caroline really doubt it, but it’s nice for her to have had that moment of romantic dreaming. Welcome to Decorating the Set: From Hollywood to Your Home with Beth Kushnick! This week on Decorating the Set, Beth and Caroline sit down with actor, writer, director and producer of 2022's Forty Winks and 2025's Atrabilious, William Atticus Parker. Will is here to discuss his new movie, The Auction, which is in pre-production (and which Beth is Production Designer), and his journey to becoming a filmmaker in a changing industry. As Beth says in the interview, young filmmakers like Will give us hope for the future of the industry. Don’t miss this interview! GUEST BIO: WILLIAM ATTICUS PARKER William Atticus Parker is a writer, director, producer, and actor living in Brooklyn, New York. At twenty-one years old, he has already written, directed, and produced two micro-low-budget feature films. Forty Winks, starring Justin Marcel McManus and Susan Sarandon, had a successful festival run and is now streaming on Prime Video, Tubi, Roku, and more. Atrabilious, starring Leon Addison Brown, Mark Boone Junior, Jeffrey Wright, and Whoopi Goldberg, had a successful festival run and will release on Prime Video July 18th, 2025. Forty Winks was filmed in Black & White with Atrabilious drenched in a neon color palette. Despite technical and financial limitations, both films did very well with critics and audiences alike. Forty Winks was filmed in less than a week with a budget of $5,000 when he was 17 and Atrabilious was filmed in a week and a half with a budget of $20,000 when he was 18 – both films were entirely self-funded. The Auction, his upcoming third feature starring Raúl Castillo & Mary-Louise Parker, is set to take his small-scale darkly comedic thrillers to a science-fiction horror spectacle. His acting career began as a seven-frame cameo in Forty Winks. He has now taken on roles in The Gray House (directed by Roland Joffe), Obstacle (short film with Megan Boone) and Their Town (written by Mark Duplass) as well as being set to appear in The Auction. His inspirations include Jordan Peele, Ari Aster, Donald Glover, Spike Lee, Wes Anderson and Joel & Ethan Coen. THE TESTAMENTS – “Green Tea” – As the Green girls gather for a tea party, Daisy struggles to keep on task, while Agnes begins to understand what being a woman in Gilead means. (Disney/Russ Martin)HEATHER KOSIK, LUCY HALLIDAY This week’s episode of The Testaments, “Green Tea”, takes us further into Gilead’s arcane traditions with the plums hosting high tea as an expression of thanks to the Aunts. BUT there are also subtleties with lasting consequences for even the slightest misstep. Needless to say, the girls are on edge. Meanwhile, Daisy has no official role in the tea. She attends and observes the behind-the-scenes activities… and snoops around and speaks with Garth, the young Mayday agent masquerading as a Mackenzie family guardian. She’s getting nervous that Gilead’s forces are tightening the noose around her as she sees her Mayday comrades swinging from the gallows. Needless to day, she is also on edge. You know who’s not on edge? Aunt Lydia. She’s just here for the cake. Focused on the golden age (1950-1990) of New York filmmaking, Cinematic Immunity covers On the Waterfront through The Sopranos. The East Coast film industry, thousands of miles from the Los Angeles executives, existed by its own rules and with little oversight. It was a close-knit and freewheeling community of movie technicians that took on the most outrageous challenges to get the shot. Readers will hear the unvarnished truth of the New York movie industry—tales about union politics, studio bullshit, movie families, dangerous locations, complex shots, volatile directors, plus anecdotes about actors, pranks, friendships, rivalries, generational shifts, substance use and abuse, technical feats, and more. Includes stories about classic (and not so classic) films and television shows including: Midnight Cowboy, The Warriors, The French Connection, The Exorcist, The Godfather, The Wiz, The Taking of Pelham 123, Annie Hall, Cruising, Do The Right Thing, When Harry Met Sally, Home Alone 2, The Sopranos, and Law and Order. ### For over 35 years, Beth Kushnick has created character-driven settings for countless award-winning television series and feature films. Hayden Christensen on stage during his panel at Comicpalooza 2025 in Houston, TX. Comicpalooza 2025 is officially wrapped up, and it was quite the weekend! In this episode, I share a full recap of my time at Houston's premier pop-culture event, filled with panels, autographs, and plenty of memorable moments. Things kicked off strong on Friday with an excellent panel featuring Hayden Christensen, where fans got a chance to hear directly from the Star Wars star about his experiences. The excitement ramped up even further on Saturday, which turned into a packed day with amazing panels featuring both Adam Savage and Patton Oswalt. Their insights and stories were highlights, making the sessions engaging and entertaining. Adding to Saturday's excitement, I was joined by my kids, Jack and Elizabeth, turning it into a fantastic family outing. Elizabeth had her heart set on getting autographs from two specific celebrities—Cheech Marin and Alan Tudyk. We managed to secure Cheech's autograph without any trouble, but the line for Alan Tudyk was overwhelming, leading us to postpone that task until Sunday. Returning on Sunday, I successfully snagged Alan Tudyk's autograph, fulfilling Elizabeth's wish and rounding out our autograph collection perfectly. The day wrapped up with stellar panels featuring Ming-Na Wen and Temuera Morrison, both of whom delivered engaging discussions and plenty of entertaining anecdotes. Highs and Lows? Later in the episode, Caroline and I dive into a thoughtful conversation about the event's overall celebrity guest lineup. We discuss whether Comicpalooza should expand their roster to better compete with bigger conventions found in nearby cities like Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, and New Orleans, which tend to offer more extensive and diverse celebrity slates. We weigh the pros and cons, discussing what makes these events successful and appealing. Despite these discussions about potential improvements, my overall experience at Comicpalooza was genuinely positive. It provided plenty of fun, memorable experiences, and quality time spent with family. Listen to this episode to get all the detailed stories, insights, and our personal takes on the weekend's standout moments! Dates: June 20-22, 2025 Location: George R.
