The Dedeaux Download Podcast returns with Shotgun Spratling and podcast co-host Kasey Kazliner breaking down USC baseball's disappointing series loss to Michigan State and subsequently falling out of the top 25 after an ever-so-brief appearance. Shotgun and Kasey take a look at the action, noting three positives and three negatives, including the variance in left-handed pitchers Caden Hunter and Mason Edwards as well as the Trojans' top left-handed hitter, Brayden Dowd, again putting a ball over the fence. After a break, USC head coach Andy Stankiewicz then joins the show to talk about trying to bounce back from a poor weekend at this point in the season along with how he assesses and adapts to fatigue late in the season, especially with the Trojans having to travel so much this season without a home field while playing in the Big Ten for the first time. Stankiewicz also discusses the struggles of Hunter and trying to work the Trojans' Friday ace back into shape as he deals with probably his first real failures in his baseball career. USC's head coach also talks about the unique challenges this time of year presents with finals leading into conference tournaments and the transfer portal about to open. Shotgun and Kasey close out the show taking a look at where the Trojans stand after their first series loss since the opening weekend of Big Ten play and seeing their RPI slip down to No. 42. The podcast then previews USC's upcoming weekend of action with the Trojans heading up to Seattle to take on Eddie Smith's upstart Washington club. Did Alex Murdaugh Plead Guilty To Federal Charges To Get A Nicer Prison?

How often does one admit to crimes, especially grave financial misdeeds, in order to influence where they will serve their prison sentence? This seems to be the burning question surrounding Alex Murdaugh, the scandal-ridden lawyer with a tangled web of alleged transgressions.    In a recent episode of the "Hidden Killers" podcast with Tony Brueski, former Federal prosecutor Neama Rahmani discussed the shocking plea of Alex Murdaugh. The embattled lawyer recently admitted to 22 financial crimes, marking the first time he has ever stood in front of a judge and confessed. However, the gravity intensifies as over a hundred charges remain on the table.    Rahmani noted, "He stole the money, I mean, engaging in his fraudulent scheme... involving the housekeeper and so forth. And, you know, his co-defendant pled and got 20 years. There's no question he was going to be convicted on the fraud case." With such clarity on Murdaugh's guilt in the fraud case, it raises the question of why Murdaugh decided to plead now. Rahmani has a theory.    "Most of the time, those federal prisons tend to be a little bit nicer," Rahmani explained. "So that could actually be part of the strategy here because I think that's been a big surprise to everybody that he's admitting anything." This isn't an unprecedented tactic. Derek Chauvin once attempted a similar move, hoping to serve time in federal prison rather than state.    However, this isn't the first time Murdaugh has been mired in controversy. Beyond the financial crimes, he's been connected to a murder trial, a puzzling situation involving a man named Eddie Smith, and even bizarre allegations of orchestrating his own attempted death to manipulate a life insurance payout. "Murdaugh is a professional insurance scammer," Rahmani highlighted, a statement that further underscores the perplexity of the case.    And then there's the troubling admission allegedly made by Murdaugh to Eddie Smith, hinting at his responsibility in the deaths of Maggie and Paul. Should there be another trial, such a confession, if proven true, could weigh heavily on the outcome. On the potential for a retrial, Rahmani speculated that new evidence could push the defense in a fresh direction, away from their previously unsuccessful approach.    Nonetheless, with the weight of the financial crimes conviction looming, the future looks grim for Murdaugh. Rahmani muses on the chances of a different strategy, saying, "You gotta try something different. It's hard because, you know, obviously, Alex has locked himself into this testimony... They got to come up with something else."    In the grand scheme, with life sentences and a deteriorating reputation, the final outcomes of these trials may appear inconsequential. But for a man whose life has spiraled from privilege to scandal, every decision now holds a profound significance.    So, in a world where admitting guilt might be a strategy, where truth intertwines with deception, one has to ask: Is the justice system truly adept at discerning the two, or are there masterminds like Alex Murdaugh who can manipulate it to their advantage? Murders, embezzlements, and shocking accusations - the tale of the Murdaugh family, once regarded as legal royalty in South Carolina, reads more like a crime thriller than real life. The newest revelations from Netflix's documentary, shining a light on the family's darkest secrets, begs the question: Just how deep does the twisted web of deceit run in this seemingly cursed dynasty?  A recent episode of the podcast "Hidden Killers," hosted by Tony Brueski, delved into this very topic, engaging with Clinical and Forensic Psychologist and licensed Private Investigator, Joni Johnston.  One of the newest revelations involves the 'Curtis cutting cousin', Eddie Smith. In the documentary, when Eddie was questioned about the incident where Alex Murdaugh alleged that Smith tried to kill him upon his request, he provided a chilling response. Eddie claimed that Alec had confided in him about his fears: "They're going to be able to prove that I'm responsible for Maggie and Paul." Johnston remarks on this revelation, “It's the elephant in the room. It absolutely could be true.”    However, the veracity of this claim remains in question, given Eddie Smith's reputation. Brueski highlights the inconsistency, noting, “Eddie's already kind of proven not to be that credible. It's like, what do you believe out of Eddie?”    Further complicating the matter is Alec's recent admittance of guilt, a decision to plead guilty to 22 federal charges, including wire fraud, bank fraud, and money laundering. Johnston contemplates this sudden change in Alec's stance, suggesting it's more about his self-interest and less about moral awakening. "Either that or he is starting to become more concerned about his reputation...I can promise you there's a self-interest involved here."    Yet, the family's intricate web of lies and deceit seems to have historical roots. An interview with Paul Murdaugh's former girlfriend in the documentary provides a shocking account of family patriarch, Randolph Murdaugh. During a marital dispute, Randolph went to the extreme of publishing his wife, Miss Libby's obituary in the local newspaper, despite her being alive – a chilling power play to dissuade her from pursuing a divorce.    When posed with the question about the psychology of such a family, where such actions were normalized, Johnston reflects on the values instilled. “It certainly speaks to this level of self-interest. Narcissism. I'm going to get what I want. No matter who gets hurt.” Johnston elaborates that these behaviors, having been witnessed by their offspring, perpetuates a cycle of values misaligned with societal norms.    Diving deeper into this psychology, Johnston provides a perspective on why such individuals might not feel shame for their actions. “If those are your values, shame wouldn't come into it at all.” This statement underscores a profound disconnect between personal values and broader societal standards, highlighting the extent of the Murdaugh family's alleged detachment from societal norms.    While the Murdaugh family saga continues to unravel, revealing layers of secrets and manipulation, one can't help but wonder: How did such a prominent family spiral into this abyss? What drove them to these extremes? And most importantly, were they always destined for this grim fate, or was it a product of generational values gone awry?    With the world watching and waiting for the next twist in this riveting saga, one must ask: If the sins of the father are indeed visited upon the son, what legacy does the Murdaugh family leave behind? Eddie Smith shares how the state powerhouse Katy Tigers are reducing the fear of hamstring injuries during rehab for their athletes. There have been 6000 papers published about hamstring injuries The research is all over the place. The only real consensus is Nordic hamstring curls We start with NSAIDs The next day we start with movement COMPEX Ankle movement Heel slides As soon as they can walk pain-free we get them back on the field We use short lever arm exercises We use Catapult for GPS data and can help know when our players are working within a safe range. If it is a larger injury, how do you talk them through the mental aspect? Know your athlete Communicate with all of the stakeholders Athlete Coach Mom and dad 0-80% is easy, but 80-100% is the really hard part. Educate them on some of the options: PRP, Cryo, …anything that will help them feel better. Mentally they are prepared, physically they are not. How do we reduce the recurrence of injury? The first two weeks are most commonly the time frame for reinjury Repeat the exposure incident over and over again. I like to have them sprint over and over again. How do we recreate sprinting for the kids that can not? We want to train on the speed-strength continuum as much as possible Gymaware is the bar speed program we use. Nordic Hamstring curl Highest-rated prevention exercise Activates the highest quantity of muscle fibers How can we implement "reducing the fear" into off-season or pre-season programming? Implement the eccentric Are there any hamstring quad deficits

The Murdaugh family of South Carolina has been a powerful and respected presence in the community for generations, with many members serving as solicitors and lawyers. However, recent events and allegations have cast a shadow over the family's reputation, leading to a reexamination of their past actions and the culture that enabled them.    In a recent episode of the podcast "Hidden Killers," host Tony Brueski and author John Glatt discuss the Murdaugh family, focusing on Alex Murdaugh and his upbringing. Glatt, who has spoken to people close to the family, describes Alex as being "spoiled rotten" and "entitled" from a young age, an attitude that he carried into adulthood. He recounts stories of Alex's wild behavior, including an incident at a strip club that led to a fight and police intervention, only for the officers to let Alex go upon realizing who he was.    This special treatment contributed to Alex's belief that he was above the law, a mindset that may have contributed to his ultimate downfall. Glatt suggests that Alex's sense of entitlement, coupled with a 20-year addiction to opiates, may have led to the series of events that culminated in multiple criminal charges against him. Alex has been indicted for drug possession, drug dealing, and drug manufacturing, among other charges.    While the role of drugs in the Murdaugh family saga is still unfolding, there have long been questions about the family's involvement in the drug trade. Alex paid his cousin Eddie Smith thousands of dollars for drugs, and there is speculation that the family may have been involved in drug smuggling. This remains unconfirmed, but as Glatt notes, the numerous upcoming trials will likely shed more light on the matter.    Alcohol also played a significant role in the Murdaugh family dynamic. Alex's children, Buster and Paul, were exposed to alcohol from a young age and encouraged to drink by their parents. This permissive attitude towards alcohol contributed to a culture of excess and recklessness that ultimately proved disastrous. Paul was heavily intoxicated at the time of a boat crash that resulted in the death of Mallory Beach, an incident that marked the beginning of the end for the Murdaugh family's once unassailable reputation.    The conversation also touches on the role of nature versus nurture in shaping Alex's behavior. While it's unclear whether Alex has a mental disorder that contributed to his actions, the combination of a potentially natural chemical imbalance, special treatment from a young age, and a long-term addiction to opiates created a perfect storm that may have led to the creation of a "monster."    The fall of the Murdaugh family is a story of privilege, entitlement, and a lack of accountability that spanned generations. The upcoming trials will hopefully provide more answers and a measure of justice for those affected by the actions of Alex Murdaugh and his family. Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? Michael would last be seen on June 7, 2022 at 10:15 a.m. He had just lost his job at the Whole Hog Cafe on Cantrell Rd. After leaving his job, he had visited his mother at her banking job on Rebsamen Park Road to tell her. Michael was close to his mother and kept in regular contact with her. No one has seen Michael since.Scherry had described her son as a good son. Michael and his dad Eddie were both huge NBA fans and share a love for basketball. Eddie had worked with his son on improving his game so that he could possibly play professional basketball in the future. Michael spent much of his youth playing in high school and junior college.Unfortunately, Michael would give up on his dream of playing professional basketball and leave college without earning a degree. His mother said he would just take a series of different jobs and focus more on financially supporting his kids and looking out for his mother. Michael's case is controversial. According to his mother, law enforcement claims Michael was last seen riding on a bicycle and then possibly committing suicide by jumping into a river. There were witnesses who saw an unidentified man jumping into a local river.Scherry has said she has been told by law enforcement they believe Michael has committed suicide. Sherry disputes this. She said she has seen a blown-up photo of the man on the bike. She said he was a darker-skinned man and wasn't her son as police claim. She also said there is no confirmation that the man who allegedly jumped into the river was her son. Another source of contention between law enforcement and Michael's family is that a neighbor told Michael's family that she saw Michael checking his mailbox sometime between 4:20 p.m. and 4:40 p.m. on the day he disappeared. Scherry has said law enforcement has never spoken to this neighbor.I asked Scherry if Michael had any enemies. She said that he was concerned for his life. He told his mother that if anything ever happened to him then law enforcement needed to look at someone he named. Scherry has given this name to law enforcement and doesn't believe they have considered this person as a suspect in Michael's disappearance. Today, Scherry and her son Cedric spend many hours looking in abandoned houses and speaking to people trying to figure out what happened to Michael.Have you seen Michael Smith? He is described as being 5'10” and weighing around 130 lbs. His family is searching for him and believe he is deceased. In this 88th episode, Co-hosts Mandy Matney and Liz Farrel unpack Russell Laffitte's latest attempt to get a do-over in federal court. They also take a step back to look at the bigger picture of how convicted murderer Alex Murdaugh used Eddie Smith to do his bidding and then threw him under the bus in an effort to escape consequence. Now, Eddie is caught between the state of South Carolina and its two-tiered justice system that continues to treat the powerful much differently. Alex Murdaugh called 911 on September 4, 2021, claiming he was shot in the head while changing a tire on the side of the road. Later, the disgraced lawyer would admit he planned and attempted to complete a murder-suicide scheme for insurance money with a former client of his, Curtis “cousin Eddie” Smith. Murdaugh indicated that he planned the roadside shooting with Smith. However, the lines of truth are blurred and it's not clear whether Murdaugh's confession implicating Smith as the gunman is accurate.
