This week, we are happy to welcome author, podcaster and motivational speaker Kirsten Jones to The Hamilton Review Podcast! In this conversation, Kirsten shares a lot of valuable information from her book, "Raising Empowered Athletes" including helping our kids move through discomfort, leaning into the things that we value as parents and helping them get to the other side. Kirsten and Dr. Bob also talk about youth sports, burn out and more. Parents, this is a must listen conversation! Kirsten Jones is a motivational speaker, author, podcaster and Peak Performance Coach. Along with Susie Walton (mother of former NBA player and coach, Luke Walton, and three other peak-performing sons), she is the co-host of the popular #RaisingAthletes Podcast, based in Los Angeles. Jones is an empowered, successful athlete herself: she played Division I volleyball and is a member of the William and Mary Athletics Hall of Fame. She was a fifteen year executive at NIKE in both Europe and the U.S. Ten years ago, Kirsten was certified through a Tony Robbins life-coaching program, Strategic Intervention. She started life coaching, doing motivational speaking, coaching youth sports teams and writing a monthly blog. Sports have been a constant in her life- whether player herself, coaching her children, or working with athletes and their parents as a Peak Performance coach. Over the last five years, Kirsten has spoken to thousands of middle school, high school, and college athletes: parents; coaches; and sports administrators about the increasing pressure to compete both on and off the court-- and how to thrive as both an athlete and a human being while effectively coping with all that pressure. She is the mother of three athletes. One played Division I basketball at Boston University and is now playing for DIII at Claremont Graduate University while getting his MBA; a second son, also a Division I basketball player, is a sophomore at Colgate University; and a daughter who just finished high school and played club volleyball throughout, is now a freshmen at Loyola Marymount University Film School. Kirsten's super power is helping people get out of their heads and into their bodies so they can feel their best and perform beyond what even they dreamed possible. Oh, how good we have it now. When last season ended, a sentiment that common within the Kings fanbase was that the 2023/24 season was one of the worst Kings seasons of all time. So that peaked our interest, so we decided to go back to a time when it was dark. So for this edition of King's rewind, we go back to 11/20/2021 when the Kings took on the Jazz in what would be Luke Walton's last game as head coach and the game where a fan threw up on the court in the 4th quarter. We recap not just the game, but everything leading up to the game, and the aftermath of the game. It's about to get dark. For the 10th time in his illustrious 21-season NBA career, LeBron James is getting accustomed to a new head coach. The Los Angeles Lakers have reportedly hired former NBA player and current podcast co-host, JJ Redick, on a four-year contract. This bold move brings a coaching rookie into the spotlight, tasked with managing a team that has struggled to meet its championship aspirations since their 2020 title. With LeBron comes immense expectations and pressure, which has historically led to a revolving door of head coaches. From his early days in Cleveland to his championship runs in Miami and back to his current stint with the Lakers, LeBron has experienced a diverse array of coaching styles and philosophies. Let's take a trip down memory lane and revisit all the coaches LeBron has played under:Paul Silas (2003-2005): LeBron's first NBA coach, known for his old-school approach and mentoring style, helped LeBron win the 2004 NBA Rookie of the Year Award.Mike Brown (2005-2010): Led the Cavaliers to their first NBA Finals appearance in 2007 and secured multiple 60+ win seasons but was eventually let go in hopes of retaining LeBron.Erik Spoelstra (2010-2014): Despite initial friction, Spoelstra guided LeBron and the Miami Heat to four straight NBA Finals and two championships, solidifying his reputation as one of the league's top coaches.David Blatt (2014-2016): Hired before LeBron's return to Cleveland, Blatt's European coaching style never quite meshed with the team, leading to his mid-season dismissal despite a 53-29 record and a Finals appearance.Tyronn Lue (2016-2018): Promoted from assistant coach, Lue led the Cavaliers to their historic 2016 NBA Championship, though the team struggled to maintain that success, leading to LeBron's departure to LA.Luke Walton (2018-2019): Struggled to integrate LeBron with the Lakers' young core, resulting in a disappointing season and Walton's eventual dismissal.Frank Vogel (2019-2022): Brought a defensive-minded approach that led the Lakers to their 2020 NBA Championship in the bubble, but later struggled with team dynamics and the ill-fated Russell Westbrook trade.Darvin Ham (2022-2024): Managed to bench Westbrook and lead the Lakers to the Western Conference Finals, but consistent underperformance led to his firing after two seasons.J.J. Redick (2024-?): The newest addition, and LeBron's podcast co-host, now faces the challenge of bringing the Lakers back to championship contention in a high-stakes environment. From seasoned veterans to fresh faces, each coach has brought something unique to the table. With Redick now at the helm, the Lakers are betting on a new dynamic that leverages his close relationship with LeBron.Join the conversation on Real Talk with Kingsley Ogwudire as we dive into LeBron's journey through these coaching changes. What does this mean for the Lakers' future? Will JJ Redick be the key to unlocking another championship? Share your thoughts and let's discuss!

The Los Angeles Lakers are once again off to a slow start which means head coach Darvin Ham is officially on the hot seat. This is a common occurrence for LeBron James-led teams, but is it his fault? And why doesn't he have a coach associated with his greatness the way other all-time greats do? Let's take a look back at LeBron's career to see if we can get some answers! Three-plus years ago, the Lakers introduced Frank Vogel as head coach in a press conference where he was an afterthought, thanks to a missed postseason, Magic Johnson's abrupt departure, Luke Walton's firing, coaching search shenanigans, and more. Later today (Monday), Darvin Ham will be introduced to replace Vogel, and while the team is hardly in a perfect place, there should be at least less overall angst. That should help make the day one of greater optimism, where Ham will have the opportunity to really make an impression on the city and his future players. What should Lakers fans want to hear from Ham? What are the most interesting questions that could be asked in order to get a feel for who he might become as head coach. And once everyone is done with Darvin, what questions are there for Rob Pelinka, who still hasn't spent a ton of time addressing Lakers media (and by extension, Lakers fans)? Of course, Ham's success will depend a lot on the roster he's given. There is still a ton of mystery in that regard, given how many holes the team has to fill. One player (presumably) returning next season is Austin Reaves. He was a great surprise this year, but was also the beneficiary of low expectations and being a bright spot amidst a raging tire fire surrounding him. What can the Lakers expect from Reaves? Is he a starter? A high class reserve? Someone who, on a more successful team, might not be worthy of as much playing time? HOSTS: Andy and Brian Kamenetzky SEGMENT 1: Monday's press conference introducing Darvin Ham will look a lot different than the one introducing Frank Vogel, and that's a very good thing for the Lakers. SEGMENT 2: What would you ask Ham? What would you want to hear in response? SEGMENT 3: Evaluating Austin Reaves. How does he fit into the rotation next season? Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! As we all settle into the Lakers' offseason, big questions - and there are many - rumors and reports are already circulating about the direction the team might go in replacing Frank Vogel. One nugget reported by Sam Amick at The Athletic? LeBron James would be interested in the Lakers hiring former Warriors/current ESPN broadcaster Mark Jackson. Now, this is highly unikely (Jackson was a rumored candidate after the Lakers canned Luke Walton, and even when the Cavs fired David Blatt), but the concept raises interesting questions about how the Lakers need to approach the coaching search. Because while Jackson is hardly the perfect candidate, that guy doesn't exist. It's very unlikely the Lakers will have access to the creme de la creme of uber-elite coaching options. So they need to be very clear on what they want, why, and who can deliver on their top priorities. From there, they have to match that coach with a roster that accentuates those strengths. That certainly didn't happen this season. HOSTS: Andy and Brian Kamenetzky SEGMENT 1: Stanley Johnson's exit interview revealed a lot about how the Lakers mismatched players and roles. Getting the right mindset to play the right role isn't always easy for decorated pros. SEGMENT 2: Johnson also noted how skillsets on the Lakers didn't quite mesh, either. Understanding why, and getting a more coherent construction for next year's roster, is critical. SEGMENT 3: The Lakers seem (very, very) unlikely to hire Jackson, but just the idea raises all kinds of interesting questions about what the Lakers would look for in their next coach. Barton and Luke sit down to discuss how Luke learned to be a key asset to the Los Angeles Lakers during his nine years wearing the purple and gold. Before he retired, Luke was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers where he made his mark being a positive force on and off the court for their franchise. Luke also recounts how his dad's two years with the Boston Celtics (85-87) helped shape his understanding of winning basketball. Early Life: The son of Susie Walton (Guth) and former UCLA star and NBA Hall-of-Famer Bill Walton, Luke was born in San Diego, California. He was named after his father's close friend and former teammate Maurice Lucas. He has three brothers: Adam, Nathan, and Chris. Walton attended Univ. of San Diego High School, graduating in 1998.College Career:Luke Walton played basketball at the Univ. of Arizona under coach Lute Olsen. His best year statistically was as a junior, when he averaged 15.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, 6.3 assists, 1.6 steals and 0.6 blocks per game. He played all four years and graduated with a degree in family studies and human development. He was selected as a 2nd team all-American his senior year. Los Angeles Lakers (2003–2012)Walton was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2003 NBA Draft with the second pick of the second round (32nd overall). Walton was a favorite of Lakers fans during his nine-year stint as a selfless, hard-working reserve player. In 2006-07, Walton had his best year in the NBA. He scored a career-high 25 points against th Atlanta Hawks on December 8, 2006. For the season he posted career-high per-game averages in minutes, field goal percentage, steals, blocks, rebounds, assists and points as the Lakers starting small forward. Following the season, on July 12, 2007, Walton was signed by the Lakers to a 6-year, $30 million contract.Golden State Warriors (2014–2016) In 2014, Walton became an assistant coach for the Golden State Warriors with Steve Kerr. Said Walton, "We are gonna run parts of the triangle offense, and I know that thing front and back." The Warriors won the 2015 NBA Finals after they defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers in six games to give Walton his third NBA championship and first as an assistant coach.During training camp in October 2015, Walton was appointed as the Warriors interim head coach when Steve Kerr took an indefinite leave of absence to rehabilitate his back that had been bothering him after the NBA Finals. Walton made his coaching debut in the season opener on October 27 in a 111–95 win over the New Orleans Pelicans. Three games later, he presided over the third-largest margin of victory in franchise history when the Warriors defeated the Memphis Grizzlies, 119–69, which was also the largest margin in the league since 1991. The Warriors set a new NBA record by winning their first four games by a total margin of 100 points. With a win over the Lakers on November 24, he guided the Warriors to a 16th consecutive victory to start the season, a new NBA record.Walton was named the NBA Western Conference Coach of the Month for games played in October and November, after guiding Golden State to a 19–0 start. In 2016, Luke became the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers and would go on to coach LeBron James in 2018-2019). Luke Currently lives with his family in Sacramento, California. The Alvin Gentry era began much like the Luke Walton era ended: with a whimper. Sacramento couldn't finish off the 76ers G-League team, and now sit at 6-12 on the young season. In other words, this team has given us little to be thankful for. It wasn't exactly a surprise, but the NBA handed down some discipline to LeBron James and the Lakers following Sunday's brawl in Detroit. One game for James as punishment for a reckless and dangerous fist/elbow to the face of Pistons center Isaiah Stewart (who got two games for going bat-bleep crazy in the aftermath, trucking nearly every member of the Pistons staff trying to hold him back). One more game without James, at this point, isn't going to define the season, but does gin up questions about the team's character, and how they think of themselves. They came into the season with the belief they're an elite, title caliber squad. Everyone, players and coaches alike, needs to adjust to the reality of what this team is right now. And what they are is not all that good. If Sunday's fight is going to be the type of turning point the players said it could be, the Lakers need a change of mindset, not just more focus or hustle.Meanwhile, Frank Vogel shared some reasons Monday why he went back to a larger starting lineup featuring DeAndre Jordan at center, and at it's core is a belief that that the team simply wasn't tough enough defensively. Not exactly what you want to hear as a fan. Finally, Vogel finds himself second on a list no coach wants to be on - Vegas odds for the next coach fired, now that Luke Walton has been canned by the Kings. The Lakers may not want to pull the trigger, for a variety of reasons, but how many other levers does the organization have at its disposal?HOSTS: Andy and Brian KamenetzkySEGMENT 1: LeBron is suspended one game. Right call? Wrong call? And how will they react?SEGMENT 2: Everyone, from coaches on down, needs to start adjusting to the team they are now. Coaches to the capabilities of the roster, and players to shed the entitlement that comes with knowing you're elite, and the need to pace yourself through a season. Because these Lakers aren't that good, yet.SEGMENT 3: Vogelwatch has hit Las Vegas! What goes into this decision for the Lakers?Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. Is it possible that Luke Walton might be out of a job before he gets to paint his masterpiece? Would Sacramento really let him leave before perfecting the 5 center lineup? They just might. Karl Anthony Towns might want out of Minnesota, but be careful what you wish for KAT. A winning team might actually want hard work out of their players.
