John Schneider and Pete Carroll went into this year's 2021 NFL Draft with only three draft picks after using their other picks to acquire known talent. Jamal Adams and Carlos Dunlap were acquired in 2020 and are both under contract to remain with the team through 2021. Gabe Jackson was picked up in a trade this offseason with the Las Vegas Raiders to add to the offensive line after the departure of Mike Iupati. However, the Seahawks have never picked fewer than five players in a draft in the entire history of the franchise. But the Seahawks GM only made two trades on draft day and still finished with only three picks. First off the board for Seattle was WR D'Wayne Eskridge of Western Michigan. The guys talk about the thought process that may have gone into taking a skill player here rather than improving the offensive line, particularly with some of the top centers still on the board. Outside cornerback depth was a concern coming into this last week, and it's well known the type of corner Seattle likes to draft, so why did the Seahawks take Oklahoma cornerback Tre Brown? Pete Carroll may be adapting to what we're seeing in the NFC West and in the NFL. In the sixth round, the Seahawks traded up for offensive tackle Stone Forsythe. Despite some of his perceived weaknesses, taking him that late in the draft was a "no-brainer," but it also highlighted an area where Seattle tended not to budge on what they looked for in the past. Plus, we look at some of the top undrafted free agents. In the second half of the show, we talk about the 49ers selection of Tre Lance with the third overall pick and the decision to trade two future first round picks to make that deal (when maybe they didn't need to). Aaron Rodgers managed to steal the spotlight ahead of the first round, which was almost certainly 100% intentional after what the Packers did to him last year. Do Better call outs go anyone who dragged Russ into the new Rodgers story and to our buddy Gerrad. DK Metcalf gets Better at Life honors along with Dan Hanzus of Around the NFL. The first week of NFL free agency is in the books and Chris Carson is remaining in Seattle on 2-year, $10 million deal. The Seattle Seahawks also made a trade last week to help fill in at guard with the retirement of Mike Iupati. Brandan goes on to the local radio show the Nach On Sports to talk about all the moves and what the Seahawks still need to address in free agency in the coming weeks. We also discuss how the reported 'aggressive' effort by the Bears to try and trade for Russell Wilson wasn't very aggressive when you consider what Chicago was offering and what we've seen given up for guys who haven't even proven themselves as franchise quarterbacks. The Seahawks along with other teams around the NFL are restricting their beat reporters from giving away information we would usually learn in a regular preseason. For example, it's unlikely we'll get reports of how depth charts are shaping up. But Seattle did release a 16-second video via social media that shows a D.K. Metcalf touchdown. In his post-game press conference, Russell Wilson mentioned he hit Metcalf on an opening drive touchdown. In the video that was released we can see Ethan Pocic snapping the ball along with Mike Iupati and Duane Brown on the left side of the line. At the end, we see Damien Lewis and Brandon Shell from the right side. Time will tell if this is how it ultimately shakes out. Nathan Santo of the Seahawks Nest Podcast joins the show to talk about some of the stats that were released from the mock game and the latest in the Earl Thomas saga. This show starts off by recapping the Seahawks news from the past two weeks, including the sad news of former Seahawks quarterback Tarvaris Jackson passing away this week. In free agency news, Seattle continues to add to the offensive line by bringing back Mike Iupati. What does this mean for the team in terms of how they approach the 2020 draft and which players are going to be competing for which positions? With the draft beginning next week, we discuss the similarities and differences from previous drafts. Even though there are some glaring needs on defense, the team could continue to look for weapons to surround Russell Wilson with early on in the draft. With the offseason being very different this year, it could also change the way teams may want to think about their rookie players going into next season. The Seahawks recently posted a video on the tight ends position room where Greg Olsen was introduced to the current group of Seattle tight ends. To say that he'll bring a higher level of maturity to the group is an understatement and we have the clips as evidence. We also clue Luke Willson into why a grizzly bear would obviously win a fight with a gorilla. Adam has ranked the 2020 class of quarterbacks and has decided that only two rise to the level of providing a team with a quarterback who gives a team a legitimate shot at the playoffs. In the second half of the show we dive into some clips from the Mysterious Universe podcast that explores some of the origins of Pete Carroll's coaching philosophy. If you want to check out their full podcast, you can tune in around the 1:12:25 mark of their show. We also discuss a listener email that talks about just how lucky the team would be to find a pass rusher who can provide an immediate impact late in the first round or into the second round of the draft. Closing out the show, we talk about an Air Force program that combines two of the most terrifying terms to come from sci-fi films into a single program that should sound alarm bells for anyone familiar with the Terminator and Star Trek series. Kam Chancellor is snubbed from a list of All-Decade team snubs. A politician in Washington State has decided to give up politics to serve the public in another way and science and medicine tells us all why it was better for humanity that the Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl this year. Sad news this week as Seahawks fans learned that former quarterback Tarvaris Jackson passed away in a car crash earlier this week. Nathan Santo joins the show to talk about some T-Jack memories as he was the QB to transition Pete Carroll's Seahawks team into the Russell Wilson era. Mike Iupati and Neiko Thorpe have re-signed with the team. Iupati gives Seattle the chance to keep continuity on the offensive line from last season. Before getting into our picks we talk about some of the top needs for Seattle and how Pete Carroll and John Schneider may approach this draft. We start the mock draft by trading out of the first pick with the New York Giants, which allows Seattle to add another top 100 pick as well as Mr. Irrelevant. Ultimately, our mock draft comes away with the Seahawks selecting two interior defensive linemen, an edge rusher, an offensive tackle, two wide receivers, a tight end and a running back. Does it signal toward the future of Justin Britt? Are Seahawks fans spoiled or do they just have heightened expectations?
The Seahawks re-signed veteran guard Mike Iupati to a one-year deal, adding to the four offensive lineman they already signed in free agency. ESPN's Bill Barnwell tells 710 that the Hawks have to get better at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball, and that even if they were to sign Jadeveon Clowney, they still have to address the pass rush in the draft. How would you grade Seattle's offseason moves thus far? Mina Kimes weighs in. Employees of Major League Baseball will participate in a ground-breaking study aimed at helping researchers understand the spread of COVID-19 in major metropolitan cities. Then, we Sweep the Dial, including Erik Armstead complaining about the Seahawks.

Going into this Sunday's game against the Packers, the Seahawks have a potential problem on their offensive line. Duane Brown is still recovering from knee surgery and George Fant has a groin injury. Both were limited in practice this week. Left guard Mike Iupati is doubtful for Sunday's game and if none of the three are able to play if puts Seattle in a tough position against one of the NFL's best group of pass rushers. For the 12 hours following the loss to the Arizona Cardinals, the emotions of Seahawks fans may have sunk to a season low. After the loss of Chris Carson and C.J. Prosise to injury in the matter of a few plays, Seattle fans were collectively asking the question if Marshawn Lynch was well enough to suit back up one more time in the blue and green. As things turned out, a return had already been in the works prior to Sunday's game against the Cardinals. Will the emotion of the move be enough to help motivate the Seahawks toward victory on Sunday? There is a lot for the Seahawks to overcome as Duane Brown is likely don’t for the season and both Mike Iupati and Joey Hunt are hurt. Can an offensive line that allowed a huge day for Chandler Jones rebound against Nick Bosa and the other four first round picks on the stacked 49ers defensive line? On the other side of the ball, can Jadeveon Clowney return and have a similar performance to his game against the 49ers in Week 10? If Seattle is going to get to the quarterback, they're going to have to do so with their front four, because now George Kittle is back and is having a monster season. Just a few days into free agency and the Seahawks have addressed two major areas of need with the offensive line and their kicker. Seattle has signed D.J. Fluker to a two year deal and brought in former Cardinals and 49ers guard Mike Iupati to fill in behind J.R. Sweezy who left for Arizona. Adam Emmert and Brandan Schulze discuss how losing Sweezy means Seattle misses an opportunity to maintain continuity on the line, but the team philosophy remains in place to have an offensive line particularly skilled at run blocking. On special teams, they bring back Jason Myers, who lost out on the job in the 2018 preseason. Now he's signed to a four-year deal with the Seahawks. What is the need Seattle should focus on now that the initial wave of free agents have been signed. The Seahawks could still use another pass rusher whether they look to fill that spot through free agency or the draft. Their top player at that position went have sounding satisfied to play under the franchise tag a week ago, to a player who reportedly will hold out if a new contract isn't in place by training camp. With the departure of Earl Thomas, there have now been a few Pro Bowl caliber players to leave the team with very little to show for it. Should it bother Seahawks fans that these players are leaving at the end of their contracts rather than being traded the season before so they can get more immediate value in the draft rather than waiting for potential compensatory picks? Looking around the division, one team particularly active in free agency is the San Francisco 49ers. The guys take a look at some of their biggest moves and talk about where they might have some concerns in terms of cap space as they look down the road. The final segment of the show looks at what Area 29 meant to the Seahawks and even though his final moments in uniform will go down in infamy, it's still possible fans will see that number up in the rafters at CenturyLink in the future. The general consensus has been that if the Dawgs could win at least one game in the Pac-12 Tournament, they'd be in the NCAA Tournament. Today, they've done it, beating USC. There are things every team needs to be successful in the tournament; playing consistent solid defense, and veteran guard play, and the Dawgs have it. Joining us from Las Vegas after today's win to discuss the game, and the strategy going forward are Noah Dickerson and Dominic Green. The Seahawks are making some free agency moves, re-signing KJ Wright, which was not necessarily expected after making a deal with Mychal Kendricks yesterday. They also added NFC West mainstay Mike Iupati at guard. There are still some positional question marks, but if they can solidify those, this team could do some serious damage.
