The 49ers Cutback brings you a mid-week update with this roster. Is Jimmy Garoppolo practicing? What about Trey Lance? Will the 49ers have to turn to Nate Sudfeld? PLUS, the 49ers signed Mychal Kendricks to the active roster! Jon Halapio and Jacques Patrick were also added to the practice squad and Safety Jared Mayden was released! What do these moves signal? Not to mention Trent Williams and Alex Mack's comments to the media this week and what it says about the belief in Kyle Shanahan and this football team!!
The 49ers Cutback is here to discuss the updates on 49ers injuries. Javon Kinlaw, George Kittle, and Samson Ebukam are all dealing with minor issues. But the surprise news is the both Jimmy Garoppolo and Trent Williams injuries are not as serious as first thought. Both are day to day and could be available Sunday! That would be incredible news for the 49ers, but what impact does this have on preparation? Do the 49ers still need to focus on Trey Lance's gameplan? We discuss this plus what the Robbie Gould injury means and who the 49ers can bring in to fill that Gould gap.
The 49ers Cutback breaks down and discusses the 49ers Roster after they make the move from 85 to 80 players. Were there any surprises? Why would they move Mychal Kendricks to IR but not Maurice Hurst? With B.W. Webb gone what are the plans for the rest of the Cornerback room? All that plus the guys look into what other roster moves may still be coming for the 49ers as they prepare for their last preseason game vs the Las Vegas Raiders!
Matt Maiocco and Jennifer Lee Chan break down the 49ers' first preseason game against the Chiefs, including how Trey Lance performed in his first appearance as a 49ers quarterback, what the rushing attack looked like and if San Francisco's youthful secondary held up against the Chiefs offense.(1:14) 49ers fall to Chiefs in first preseason game (7:13) How important are the joint practices with the Chargers? (13:20) Breaking down the 49ers' youthful secondary (18:50) Does the secondary have enough depth? (23:02) 49ers sign Mychal Kendricks (28:40) Are the 49ers set at wide receiver? The 2021 football season is upon us as training camp starts this week. Will Jamal Adams sign a new deal? Reports are that it's going to happen, but at the same time neither side is close. If the Aaron Rodgers situation has taught us anything, it's that a new contract is likely right around the corner. It wasn't a good couple weeks for former Seahawks as Richard Sherman was recently arrested. We discuss the details of the incident. Mychal Kendricks is going to jail for one day for his involvement in insider trading. That was a case surrounding him in Seattle and it's finally been resolved. The Los Angeles Rams made a big move this offseason in trading Jared Goff for Matt Stafford. We discuss how the new Rams quarterback landed on a list Football Outsiders recently released and it's not one any franchise wants to be a part of. So did the Rams level up in the way that Michael Brockers thinks they did? The defense is likely to level down considering the loss of Brockers, John Johnson and former defensive coordinator Brandon Staley. Head coach Sean McVay has been busy podcasting this offseason and it has provided us with additional reasons to fuel your sports hate for the Rams this year. A big announcement in the second half of the show as we hit a big milestone and we still have tickets available if anyone wants to join us at the Seahawks home opener against the Titans. After our list of overrated teams last week, we revisit some of the selections as we welcome some new members to the Flock. Mike Florio is back in the Do Better segment along with a loyal listener of the show. Finally, we talk about why the CDC and a moose are Better at Life Than Skip Bayless. The Seahawks game against the Cardinals has been moved to primetime Sunday night. Russell Wilson spoke about his interest in the Seahawks adding Antonio Brown in his media session today. Do we really need to go down this road again? The Seahawks brought back a familiar face in Mychal Kendricks yesterday but our resident LB wasn’t here so he gives us his thoughts on the move. Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury spoke to the media today (from his palatial estate) about the similarities between Russell Wilson and Kyler Murray. The Seattle Seahawks are coming off of their bye week. This past week, two games in particular worked out very well for Seattle. The 49ers beat the Rams, which put some room between LA and the Seahawks in the NFC West standings. The Green Bay Packers also lost, which put Seattle at the top of the NFC. They now go on to face the Arizona Cardinals on a weekend that the final two undefeated AFC teams play. The matchup with the Cardinals was supposed to be a chance to see how Jordyn Brooks and Jamal Adams could offer the dynamic the Seahawks wanted to match up against the NFC West. That may have to wait, but Snacks Harrison and Mychal Kendricks could be on the field for the first time in 2020. The 5-0 start for the Seahawks means that Russell Wilson has now had a five-game win streak in six of his nine seasons in the NFL. Looking at his attempts per game, it has been a steady increase from the first streak in 2012 to the current streak in 2020. In the second half of the show, we talk about the decision to keep fans out of the stadium until late November. We also discuss the importance of making sure we are accountable to our superstitions, after too many Floridians trimmed their beards leading to the benching of Ryan Fitzpatrick. On this week's Akron Beacon Journal and Ohio.com podcast, Nate Ulrich and I talk the latest Cleveland Browns news. We start this week's podcast looking back on the latest episode of Hard Knocks on HBO. The most newsworthy part of this week's show was the dynamic between offensive coordinator Todd Haley and top wide receiver Jarvis Landry. Among other things, it showed how Haley should get looked at as a potential NFL head coach again in the future. Next, we previewed Thursday night's preseason finale. Even though most Browns starters will be off, the game is worth watching for guards Kevin Zeitler and Austin Corbett. First overall pick Baker Mayfield will also get plenty of playing time, as will receiver Antonio Callaway. One player who won't be playing is linebacker Mychal Kendricks, who was charged with insider trading. Nate thinks that Kendricks should be let go, despite just being signed this offseason. We close out this week's show going over some players who are squarely on the roster bubble. That includes Hard Knocks favorites Nate Orchard and Devon Cajuste. Will either make the team? Nate has some thoughts on both, as well as other roster items to keep in mind.
There aren't many roster battles on the Eagles for training camp but one that fans should keep a close eye on is the weak side linebacker spot. It is one of only two camp battles for a starting gig between the likes of Corey Nelson, Kamu Grugier-Hill, and Nate Gerry. Which inexperienced, young LB will step up in place of Mychal Kendricks? Can Jordan Hicks stay healthy like he did in 2016? Do we underrate just how good he has been? It's the LB preview on the Locked on Eagles podcast! Learn more about your ad choices.
