Send us a textThe latest episode of *2 Giants Goofballs: New York Giants News & Updates* dives deep into the whirlwind of rumors surrounding the Giants' quarterback situation, draft strategy, and trade possibilities. With the offseason heating up, reports suggest that the Giants are actively considering multiple quarterback options, including Aaron Rodgers, Daniel Jones' potential trade destinations, and their approach to the 2024 NFL Draft.  Quinn Ewers has emerged as a name of interest for the Giants. Despite battling injuries at Texas, Ewers showcased elite arm talent but struggled with consistency in crucial moments. Could the Giants see him as a future franchise QB? Meanwhile, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports that multiple teams—including the Colts, Vikings, and Browns—have expressed interest in Daniel Jones. While Indianapolis could be looking for a veteran presence behind Anthony Richardson, Minnesota and Cleveland may view Jones as a potential starter.  The Aaron Rodgers-to-Giants rumors have intensified, with reports indicating that his camp has reached out to the team multiple times. SNY's Connor Hughes confirms that the Giants have had internal discussions about Rodgers, though they are also considering other veteran QB options. Rodgers, who loves New York and is reportedly a huge fan of Malik Nabers, could bring Davante Adams with him if a deal were to materialize. Members of the Giants coaching staff have even consulted former Jets coaches who worked with Rodgers, receiving glowing reviews about his leadership and character.  The draft also looms large in the Giants' offseason plans. Pro Football Focus projects an "ideal" draft haul for Big Blue, headlined by quarterback Cam Ward in the first round, followed by standout cornerback Benjamin Morrison from Notre Dame in the second round and Ohio State edge rusher J.T. Tuimoloau in the third. With the Giants holding the No. 3 overall pick, speculation is rampant about whether they will stay put, trade down, or make a bold move up. The Sporting News predicts a potential trade with the Cowboys, where Dallas would move up to No. 3 to select Shedeur Sanders, sending the Giants a massive haul in return. On the other hand, SNY's Connor Hughes and Over the Cap's Jason Fitzgerald suggest that moving up to the No. 1 pick to land a top-tier quarterback like Caleb Williams or Drake Maye could cost the Giants their No. 3 pick, the No. 34 pick, and a future first and third-rounder.  With free agency and the draft approaching, the Giants are at a crossroads. Will they make a blockbuster move for Rodgers? Could Daniel Jones be on his way out? And what will Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll do with their coveted draft capital? We discuss the importance of consistency and specificity in training, the balance between easy and hard workouts, and the role of VO2 max in endurance performance. We also highlight the principles of endurance training, including consistency, specificity, and progression. In this conversation, we discuss various aspects of training for endurance runners. TAKEAWAYS 1) Consistency and specificity are key principles in endurance training. 2) Balancing easy and hard workouts is important for optimal performance. 3) The role of VO2 max in endurance performance depends on individual context. 4) Effective endurance training requires consistency, specificity, and progression. 5) Capacity workouts (lactate threshold and slower) build your body's ability to run more and do harder training in the future. 6) Utilization workouts (VO2max/intervals) helps you improve your physiology with the fitness you already have. 7) Strategic racing and training involves saving your best performances for key races and using threshold workouts to build capacity throughout the season. 8) Balancing hard and easy days is crucial for maintaining physical and mental well-being. 9) Strength training is beneficial for endurance runners and should include a combination of 2 times per week of heavier weightlifting and plyometrics, with bodyweight exercises on the other days.Enjoying these podcasts? You'll get a sample pack with every flavor so you can try them all before deciding what you like best.  DrinkLMNT's products have some of the highest sodium concentrations that you can find. Anybody who runs a lot knows that sodium, as well as other electrolytes like magnesium and potassium, are essential to our performance and how we feel throughout the day. My favorite flavor is watermelon salt, but citrus salt is also a banger. I'm drinking one a day now to help me get enough fluids in our dry Colorado air. It's tasty and delicious and I find that I'm not peeing every 45 minutes throughout the day, which might be an indication I wasn't eating enough sodium. There's now mounting evidence that higher sodium intake levels are not unhealthy – and athletes need substantially more than your typical sedentary person. Of course, ask your doctor if you're worried. But for those athletes running outside in the heat, an electrolyte replacement makes a lot of sense. So check out DrinkLMNT to try their new flavor or get a free sampler pack. Thank You Previnex! After resisting most supplements for the better part of my life, I'm cautiously changing my tune. Host Matthew Boyd welcomes Jason Fitzgerald, founder of Strength Running, to discuss misconceptions surrounding 'off-season' running. Fitzgerald criticizes the idea of an off-season, suggesting the term is non-specific and is not typically found in expert coaching literature. Both Boyd and Fitzgerald highlight the importance of continuous training cycles for runners, emphasizing a need for strategic, moderate input rather than extreme fluctuations between high and low seasons. They discuss the danger of de-training and the risk of subsequent injuries as important factors to consider in maintaining a steady training schedule. Utilizing key running milestones and setting 'training PRs' during what could be called 'base training' or 'pre-season' are suggested to build strong foundation for subsequent training. 00:00 Introduction and Welcoming Guest 00:22 Discussing 'Off Season' Training 00:38 Guest Introduction and Background 03:37 The Concept of 'Off Season' in Running 05:56 The Problem with 'Off Season' Training 07:44 The Importance of Consistent Training 12:26 Planning Training Around Race Schedules 16:01 The Importance of Recovery and Base Training 24:00 Setting Training Goals and Milestones 29:46 The Relationship Between Training and Injury Risk 44:49 Concluding Thoughts and Guest Contact Information Follow Jason Fitzgerald Website: https://strengthrunning.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jasonfitz1/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@StrengthRunning --- If you're an injured runner we can help you get back to running pain-free. This week's episode features a review of my summer training so far for freshmen year cross-country. This episode is going to be very chill. I think it would be insightful if, instead of giving a training tutorial like I always due, if I could delve into and analyze what is going on with my running. Hopefully I can provide you all with some insightful and real-world tips along the way. Because while I am a podcaster, I am still a runner, and I want to show that side of me as well on this podcast. I hope you enjoy this episode of The Sunday Shakeout! In this episode, I discuss: The last 12 months, including injuries and illnesses Lessons learned  What I'm doing right now And goals for the future.  I want to give a shoutout to my friend and biggest supporter of both my running and this podcast, Rene. Rene is an extremely accomplished Masters' athlete, having run 200-something half marathons, countless marathons, and overall, an extremely high amount of experience. She has been with me since my early days of training and has supported me and this podcast from Nashville, Tennessee every step of the way. I want to give a huge shoutout to her because she very thoughtfully gifted me a sleek Nashville running T-shirt and she also gifted me something that I have been talking about a lot on this podcast: the Strength Running Performance Training Journal. Now, I am not sponsored by Strength Running, but I can confidently say that even though I have only used it for a week, I love this training journal. It is set up in a useful, professional, and organized manner. Jason Fitzgerald, the author, provides you with countless pages for you to document your training, with instructions on how to use the journal, how to plan tune-up races, and even the different types of workouts. Stay tuned in the coming weeks for a full review on the Strength Running Performance Training Journal! I've gotten several Ultimate tests from them and the process is simple, easy, and very eye-opening if you haven't done a deep dive on your biomarkers yet.  Of all the investments you can make in your running, this one is like getting a detailed checkup or regularly scheduled maintenance for your internal physiology. I scheduled another Ultimate test for myself soon and it'll be interesting to compare with the test I got in February. Get yours today! Thank You Athletic Greens! Most runners don't like strength training, including many of our experts in this episode.  Our experts discuss why it is important, how we can implement it into our training program and the benefits. Michael Wardian is a great example of how strength training can help him become one of the best consistent ultra athletes with over 300 marathons and ultras.  He has many accomplishments including setting the record world record time in 7 marathons on 7 continents in 7 days and just completed a transcontinental run, “Running Home” in 61 days.  Check him out on Instagram or learn more on his web site.  Check out this video showing Mike's three core strength exercises that you can do anywhere (dead bugs, bridge, bird dog)! Jason Fitzgerald had to be on this strength running episode because he has a podcast and website dedicated to the subject, Strength Running.  Jason is a USA Track & Field certified coach, and frequent contributor on PodiumRunner, Runner's World, Active, MapMyRun, The Art of Manliness, Lifehacker and others.  He has been running competitively since 1998 and competitively in the 3,000m Steeplechase.  After you subscribe to his podcast, follow him on Twitter, Instagram and Youtube. Jason Fitzgerald is the driving force behind Strength Running's website, video channel, and podcast, but you may not know as much about his life behind the scenes. Today Jason gets interviewed about his history, advice for runners and entrepreneurs, his current aspirations, and more! Jason's friend and fellow coach, Sara Manderscheid, agreed to spend some time talking with him about who he is behind the microphone. Sara is a running coach and Boston qualifier with more than 15 years of competitive experience. She hosts the Elevate Your Running Podcast and Elevate Your Running camps held in Boulder, Colorado. After Jason spoke at one of her recent camps, several campers requested to learn more about him personally. So Sara and Jason sat down to discuss his history with running, how Strength Running came to be, and many of his favorite things related to the sport. Sara talks in depth with Jason about his career, his personal life, and of course all things running, including: Mindsets and mantras Favorite race distances What he craves after a long run Past training failures and what he wished he'd learned sooner Favorite types of podcast topics Advice for runners and entrepreneurs His preference for super short shorts! Connect with Jason on Instagram Thank you Elemental Labs! A big thanks to Elemental Labs for their support of this episode! They make electrolyte drinks for athletes and low-carb folks with no sugar, artificial ingredients, or colors. And you can get a free sampler pack of 4 flavors and 8 individual packets when you pay $5 in shipping. Elemental Labs' products have some of the highest sodium concentrations that you can find. Anybody who runs a lot knows that sodium, as well as other electrolytes like magnesium and potassium, are essential to our performance and how we feel throughout the day. The citrus flavor has quickly become my favorite. So check out Elemental Labs to try their new flavor or get a free sampler pack.  Thank You Athletic Greens! Finally! Bodyweight strength training that focuses on power (with no gym or experience required)! Jason Fitzgerald from Strength Running here on the show to talk about his new offering Bodyweight Power. As Jason loves to say: Stronger Runners are Faster Runners. Strength train explosively and you'll soon be able to run explosively. Other than delaying fatigue or preventing injuries, the other big benefit to strength training is that you'll be able to sprint faster at the end of a race. Several powerful factors make strength workouts a great tool for speed: You'll recruit more muscle fibers, increasing your capacity for speed Higher muscle tension means your legs will return more energy - making you run faster with the same level of effort Better economy and coordination gives you a smoother, more powerful stride If you've ever struggled to finish strong at the end of a race – to find that “higher gear” to power through the finish – then the strength workouts in this program will give you the power to smash through your next finish line. There's no doubt that finding the time for a high-quality strength session (on top of your normal running schedule) can be difficult. But the real issue isn't whether you have time, it's whether you're ready to improve. Do you love running? Do you want to take your racing to the next level? Passionate runners like you are often willing to make a small sacrifice to transform their running. You don't need hours every week. You're not a bodybuilder. And you don't need to hit the gym 4-5 times every week. Who has time for that? All that's needed to dramatically improve your strength, athleticism, injury resilience, power, and speed are two 30-60 minute sessions per week (that you can do at home). That's it. You can learn more about Bodyweight Power at www.strengthrunning.com/bodyweight and use code "RAMBLING" to save 20%.   Follow Matt: Instagram - @rambling_runner Twitter - @rambling_runner YouTube - www.youtube.com/channel/UCQ83E0U8M4V7klqZB8BF3wA Rambling Runner Podcast Community Corner private Facebook group - www.facebook.com/groups/125544686229661 Learn more about your ad choices.
