In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio talking about how the major power move made by athletic director Jen Cohen and head coach Lincoln Riley, hiring away Chad Bowden from Notre Dame to take over as the Trojans new general manager. The Trojans have been looking to hire a GM for a while and with the role being so unique and new, there were certainly challenges to getting the right person to help build and maintain an elite college football roster. Bowden has shown he knows what it takes to win, helping to assemble a Fighting Irish squad that made a run to the national championship and beating an impressive list of programs to get there. The guys talk about what an impressive hire this is for USC and what sort of impact they think it will make on the Trojans as they head into the 2025 season trying to bounce back after a disappointing first campaign in the Big Ten. You already beat them! If the Huskies beat Penn State and Oregon it makes the Cougars win look better. It's an absolute no brainer to root for Washington. Danny Kelly, The Ringer, who covers all things NFL pays Jason “Puck” Puckett a visit and they look back to the Seahawks loss to the Rams and the things they could have done better to secure the win.  They jumped into the decision to go for it on 4th down and the play call that they went with.  Can Ryan Grubb and the offense really get to their playbook if they can't actually block?Puck asked Danny if after nine games it's fair to question whether the decision to hire Mike Macdonald was the correct one?   The team has been as sloppy as they have ever been. Is that the result of coaching? What about the future of Seahawks GM/President John Schneider?  Under his tenure they have failed to address the offensive line and have had no plan at quarterback since Russell Wilson left. If they can't turn this around in the next year or two, Schneider will find himself out of a job. Lastly, Danny answers your fantasy football questions as it's “Waiver Wire Tuesday”.  John Canzano, JohnCanzano.com, drops by to talk all things college football.  Do the Cougs have a realistic shot at 11-1 and squeaking into the College Football Playoff? What did Canzano think of Jim Moore's thoughts about not rooting for UW, despite it benefiting the Cougars.  Puck reiterates how crazy Jim is for thinking this way. Jake Dickert has been consistent to wanting to only coach ten more years and he's made it clear that he wants it to be in Pullman.  What is his contract status?  Jim has all the info from inside the building on his current deal and what a future deal could deal could look like. When USC and Jen Cohen decide to fire Lincoln Riley, who does John think she will call first?  Three big names and all with Northwest ties.  Finally, John and Puck talk about how society has lost its civility and its ability to communicate and interact with one another. Dawgman.com's Kim Grinolds tracked down longtime Washington State alum and media personality Jim Moore this week to get his thoughts on all things Apple Cup, especially with the game to be played Saturday at Lumen Field. To start, Jim gives us the latest on what he's been up to now that he's no longer working at the Seattle sports talk stations. In fact, he moved out of the state! It was also a great time to catch up with a WSU fan knowing that the Pac-12 is now a 6-team conference with Oregon State, Boise State, Fresno State, Colorado State, and San Diego State. Talk then turns to the feelings about the Apple Cup being played in September instead of November. Jim, much like Coach Baird when talking about the Huskies, thinks the Cougars will win. Jim and Kim talk about some of the players that should play a factor in the game, like Jonah Coleman for Washington and John Mateer for WSU. Would Jim trade Mateer for Cam Ward if he had the chance? Jim was in Pullman last Saturday to watch the Cougars beat Texas Tech. What did he like, and how will those things carry over to this weekend? After a break, they come back to talking about their favorite Apple Cup experiences. Jim relayed a great story from his time watching the 1992 Apple Cup in Pullman, the infamous 'Snow Bowl'. And Kim counters with his favorite story about former WSU QB Drew Bledsoe, which then devolves into some wine talk for a minute. Kim asked Jim - who is your favorite Husky and most-hated Husky? After a quick cameo from Jim's wife, he answered the questions, including a great story from when he had to cover the 1998 Oahu Bowl where Air Force killed the Huskies and a conversation he had with legendary Husky Joe Jarzynka. He also recounted his weekly post-game ritual during Washington's winless 2008 campaign and also provided a strong admission of Washington State's team that same season. Kim offered up a story on his favorite WSU player of all-time, and Jim added his own take on the same player, as well as an interesting take on Kalen DeBoer that might surprise some UW fans. After that, Moore pivoted to Pat Chun, who just moved from Washington State to Washington. He has some very strong words for Chun; let's just say he's not as big a fan as he used to be. But WSU isn't the only program that had to replace an athletic director. Kim offered up his own take on why he felt Jen Cohen left Washington for USC and also has a wild conspiracy theory that has Cohen coming back to Seattle. Before they finish the conversation, Moore offers up an Apple Cup bet with some pretty attractive odds because he's confident of a Washington State win. And it's action he's opening up to all UW fans that listen to the podcast! Season one comes to a close with a powerhouse finale featuring Jen Cohen, a dynamo in the wellness industry who has taken her experiences in fitness and entrepreneurship to new heights. Listen in as we explore Jen's philosophy on cultivating confidence and how her approach to fostering self-esteem from a young age can lay the groundwork for a formidable future. Her personal transformation—from perceiving her uniqueness as a disadvantage to embracing it as her most significant asset—inspires us to recognize the same potential within ourselves and the next generation. "In the pursuit of authenticity, we often stumble upon our unique abilities. These unique abilities are not weaknesses but our greatest strengths. Embracing these strengths, these unique aspects of our personalities, often feels like a giant leap of faith, a leap towards boldness." - Jen Cohen  This episode isn't just about personal development; it's a candid look at the societal pressures that shape our courage and self-worth. We tackle the challenges posed by 'tall poppy syndrome', the struggle for authenticity in the face of 'woke culture', and the complex dance between individuality and the desire to belong. As we navigate the digital landscape, we dissect the impact of social media on connection and loneliness, underscoring the need for real-world relationships and confidence built through competence, rather than the fleeting validation of online personas. "Instilling confidence, instilling self-esteem in children, it starts when you're young, and I think a lot of times we are remiss in building it for young people." - Jen Cohen ----- In this episode we discuss... EP 107: Ready to live the life you really want, not the life you got? What's the life you really want? Are you bored? Itchy for the next thing in midlife? Me too! Have you taken an action step toward that change more than once? More than twice? Are you scared to take action because your inner B**ch is chattering and the “peanut gallery” is watching? Or, you think they are…Today's episode is all about action, and my guest tells us how many times you really should go after something before you can say you failed. And rejection is 1000 times better than regret. What if instead of “consuming the content from social media about what you want to be doing, you actually did it”? Are you ready to get into the “midlife arena” of living the life you want, not the life you got? It's “habits and hustle” time!  This episode is for you! Join me, Dr. Sarah Milken in an inspiring and midlife filled conversation called Live the Life you Want! Why Not You? My guest, Jen Cohen is an entrepreneur, the host of the Habits and Hustle podcast and author of Bigger, Better, Bolder: Live The Life You Want - Not The Life You Get. She's so motivational and speaks from her personal experience, which makes it even better. Today we are talking about living by your purpose, identifying what you want and attempting to get it,  and why it's better to experience rejection rather than regret. You won't want to miss this.  Looking forward to connecting with you! Here are some ways to connect with me! In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back in studio following up on their conversation with USC athletic director Jen Cohen about the Trojans NIL efforts. The guys talk about the current state of NIL for the Trojans and the ever changing landscape Cohen talked about in our interview, with the attorney generals from Virginia and Tennessee now suing the NCAA alleging that their restrictions on high school or NCAA Transfer Portal players receiving compensation from collectives is illegal. The NCAA has attempted to put "guardrails" around NIL compensation and players ability to transfer and every time it does the courts have got involved. This latest lawsuit would allow schools to use NIL as an inducement for recruits and transfers, a practice currently not allowed according to the NCAA. USC is one of the programs that has followed all of the NCAA rules when it comes to NIL compensation being used as an inducement in the recruiting process. If these lawsuits are successful and the NCAA drops the inducement rule, it would open up the door for the Trojans to attempt to play the same game some of their rivals are playing. The guys also talk about the Trojan football coaches hitting the recruiting trail hard with the new defensive staff really picking things up quickly. In this episode of the Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are back in studio talking about actual Pac-12 football as we are just days away from the kickoff of the 2023 college football season. Before the start of each Pac-12 football campaign Ryan and Dave go through the entire schedule and document their picks for each program in the Conference of Champions, including the eventual winner in Las Vegas. They also begin their game previews and picks against the spread in this episode (with only week zero game on the schedule), San Jose State visiting USC on Saturday night. The show starts off with the breaking news that USC has hired away Jennifer Cohen from Washington to become the Trojans new athletic director. It should be an exciting final season in the Pac-12 with as many as six teams in the mix to win the last Conference of Champions championship. On paper the Pac-12 appears to have an upper class and a middle class and it will be interesting to see if any of those lower ranked teams are able to jump up and derail the season for the programs in the upper half of the standings. Ryan and Dave reveal which teams they are believing in and which teams they think are the bottom dwellers in the conference as they reveal their game by game picks and prediction for regular season records. For week zero there is only one Pac-12 program in action, the USC Trojans. Reigning Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams leads the way against San Jose State at 5pm Saturday night in the Coliseum. The guys give their pick against the 30.5 point spread and start their season long contest of game picking prowess.
