Hi everyone, welcome to what is likely the final episode of 0G, A History of Forgotten Phones! We are wrapping up our limited-run podcast with a special bonus episode on tablets. Yes, there were plenty of weird and wonderful tablets from produced in the years before (and even after) the iPad! For this episode we take a look back at Intel's Web Tablet, Microsoft's Windows XP Tablet PC Edition and Windows Smart Display, the Nokia 770, the Pepper Pad 3, the ill-fated Crunchpad/Joojoo, the original Samsung Galaxy Tab, the HP Touchpad, the BlackBerry PlayBook, and the Motorola Xoom. 0G is hosted by two people who were there: Christie Pitts (now at Backstage Capital), who started her career selling phones at a Verizon store, and Peter Rojas (now at Betaworks Ventures), founder of Gizmodo, Engadget, and gdgt. Want to contact us? Christie is @imchristiepitts and Peter is @peterrojas on Twitter. We'd love to hear your thoughts on the show.

A couple of notes to add. Always give the operator chance to get back to you. You have a month to use the PAC code. If you want to end the contract early, do not end it, just pay it up. It's cheaper if you stay a customer. Check the forums, see what other customers are being offered. Many offer alerts so you can be first to know, even if the operator removes the post later you have a copy from email. Make sure you know the terms and conditions, when they offer something you like get them to note it on your account and read it back at the end of the call. If you don't know these, you could haggle yourself into a corner. They will probably honour any agreement even if it is a mistake if written down. Most importantly be polite! I have installed froyo anduse launcher pro. Basically, I would like something with a bettercamera and processor. Most of the new android smartphones come with apreinstalled launcher, such as motoblur on the atrix and sense on thehtc's. My question is, can launchers such as launcher pro work as areplacement to the preinstalled ones. I am really tempted by theupcoming atrix but don't fancy using motoblur. Ret-ro. It’s story time this week as Justin, Cole, Ethan, Justin, and Christina relive the first games that they couldn’t put down. We hope you can handle the memories of Doom II, Zeldas, Castlevanias, and Metal Gears more tastefully than we could. Send in your questions to simon@horriblenight.com or @TheHorribleShow Just a warning to those listeners who can count, avoid it during this week’s show. We get a bit too excited about the classic games that sucked up all of our time growing up. Not before our Threesomes of the Week teach us proper guitar techniques. The On the Spot question asks “What game do you wish you spent more time with?” and Justin L reveals one of his darkest Zelda secrets. The Just 5 More Minutes conversation runs the gamut of classic franchises from Final Fantasy to Metal Gear, Civilization to Star Wars, and Castlevania to Diddy Kong? Classic is apparently a much looser term than we realized. Thankfully, FOX News tightens things up with their Worst Video Game in the World award. Hide ya kids. This week on the Waves of Tech, John Hanlon joins the crew as a special guest. John has been a huge supporter of the Network and is big into social media, tech, and politics. You might call John a Google Fanatic. He loves Google products, the Android OS, and many of the services Google offers. Tune in to this week's episode as we talk about all things Google....and more Google...and more Google. Show Notes Google Background: Larry Page and Sergey Brin meet at Stanford while pursuing their computer science PHD's. Larry Page developed the PR algorithm, thus called Page Rank. In 1999, Sequoia Capital and Kleiner Perkins invested $25 million into the then struggling company. Both investment firms insisted on bringing in a business executive branch to the company. Thus, the beginning. 1. Dave, Steve, and John breakdown which Google products and service used: Google voice, Gmail, Google Docs, Google Listen, Android OS, Search, Webmaster tools, Analytics, Feedburner, Google places, AdWords, Google Reader, YouTube, Google Buzz, and Google Wave 2. Larry Page taking over as CEO of Google. Eric Schmidt stepping aside. A change in leadership has occurred at Google before and it is occurring again. We breakdown what the move means internally and externally for the company and lend our thoughts to the cultural climate Google has implemented. 3. Android Mark online OTA app downloads. In-app purchases. Android 3.0, also known as Honeycomb, is set to be used on a variety a tablets including the Motorola Xoom and LG G-Slate. This move is in direct competition to what Apple and the iPad has offered in the tablet market. 4. Competition for iTunes? Google Music, Spotify Making Launch Strides Steve and Dave have often criticized Google for overstepping their boundaries in respect to their core functions and duties as a tech company. Well, Google is trying to tap into the music industry by creating Spotify. Again, Google seems to be doing everything they can to compete with Apple. We discuss. 5. Google Speak2Tweet Voicemail For Egypt While Internet Shut Down Google, Twitter, and SayNow teamed up in an unprecedented manner in giving a voice to the Egyptian people when their own government has taken it away. Google impresses the three of us because they prove themselves as a humanistic company and not simply a box-and-deploy tech company. 6. It might be fun to go through a few of these if there's time John breaks down what Google calls their “Easter Eggs.” These are small hoaxes and gags that Google pulls off every year. We have some fun with these.
