Stranger Things: Easter Edition — Turning On the Light In this Easter message, we explore spiritual warfare through the lens of Jesus' victory over darkness. What does it mean to trample on snakes and scorpions? How does God reclaim the nations? And what role do we play? Discover how the resurrection disarmed the powers, why the Great Commission is spiritual warfare, and how everyday believers push back darkness simply by carrying the light of Christ.
Is British politics becoming more religious? Madeline Grant certainly thinks so, arguing – in the Spectator's cover article – that the next election could be the most religious for decades. Issues like immigration and Islam, assisted dying – and even the establishment of the Church of England are likely to play a role. The current Labour government's ‘most telling divide', Madeline writes, is between MPs – like Shabana Mahmood and Wes Streeting – who understand religion – and 'those who don't'. For the Edition's Easter special, host Lara Prendergast is joined by vicar – and Madeline's husband – The Rev'd Fergus Butler-Gallie, former Supreme Court justice Jonathan Sumption and the historian and broadcaster Tom Holland. They discuss why faith might be re-emerging as a live political issue: from searching for meaning in modern life, to a reaction against an ‘anaemic form of post-Christianity' that has dominated since the 1960s. They also ponder whether the public has always sought out authority, and a moral code, and if the current, insurgent political parties – the Greens and Reform – have understood this, embracing a ‘moral energy' which has proven attractive to a large portion of the electorate. Plus: is having Anglican Bishops in the House of Lords ‘an anomaly'? Why is the Church of England 'the canary in the coal mine'? And was the late Queen the 'most effective proselytiser' for Christianity in Britain since the Georgians?Produced by Patrick Gibbons. Wishing all our listeners a very Happy Easter. Hosted on Acast. Rev with a difference Jamie Franklin sits down to review the big events in church and state. This time: the death of Pope Francis, experiments to dim the sun in the name of climate change, the King's slightly woke Easter Message, and further reports of a Christian revival in Britain. All this interspersed with a very special feature-length interview with pastor and Old Testament scholar, the Rev'd Dr Benjamin Giffone about his new superb book A House Divided: Technology, Worship, & Healing the Church after COVID. Hey mission fam! In this milestone 200th episode - Thoughts on Unity, I'm diving deep into the heart of Easter and what it truly means to be unified. As I prepared for the Millennial Choir's Messiah in America concert, I started reflecting on how quickly we can divide ourselves into tribes and categories - whether it's about mission experiences, personal choices, or different ways of showing up in life. Christ's message was never about everyone being exactly the same, but about being one under His love. I share powerful insights about how contrast is actually necessary for our growth, and how His Atonement covers all our differences and challenges. Using scriptures and personal stories, I explore how we can create compassionate space for each other, embrace our unique journeys, and truly honor the spirit of Easter by choosing unity over division. If you're feeling stuck, struggling with your mission experience, or just need a reminder of how deeply loved you are, this episode is for you. I'll help you see that love's redeeming work is already done, and we can choose connection over criticism every single time. Let's be unified in Christ and celebrate the incredible hope of resurrection and renewal. As always, if you found this episode helpful, I want to invite you to subscribe if you aren't already, share this episode with your friends and missionaries you know, and write a review. I know this work will help LDS missionaries around the world and it would mean so much to me if you did. Until next week my friends. It's Easter time and we are all rushing to the stores to buy over packaged Easter eggs. While we love the taste of chocolate it's a sad fact that every sale further supports forced labour and environmental destruction.I have spoken about this before and received a cease and desist letter from a chocolate company, even though everything I said was factually correct. This podcast focuses on sustainability and for this episode we are looking at an aspect of sustainability we don't always discuss. People. We'll be discussing why a lot of chocolate companies suck and who you should buy from instead. In this episode I share:The surprising place that 70% of the worlds cocoa beans come fromHow much profit the growers and farmers of cocoa take home compared to the companies that on sell itThe average yearly income of fair trade farmers and how it has increasedHow 80% of deforestation has occurred because of cocoa in some regionsHow fair trade is involved in fixing the social issues from chocolate purchasesThe flaws in the fair trade processWhat Direct trade is and it can also helpThe pros and cons of direct tradeThe social and environmental implications of palm oilHow a customer response to Cadbury has caused the company to make changes in the pastWhy switching from using palm oil is not the option to fix thingsWhat you can do as a consumer this easterTricks to look out for when it comes to certificationWhy you should skip easter eggs entirelyThe unbelievable amount easter eggs have increased by in priceMy recommendations for ethical chocolate for easter this yearWho I don't recommend you buy from this easterKey Quotes“Chocolate, it's creamy it's sweet it melts in your mouth. But for every delicious bite you take, chocolate drives a bitter twisted tale of forced labour and environmental destruction.”“It's impossible to buy and do the right things all of the time.”“Sustainability is about progress not perfection. Easter, Through the Eyes of Matthew. Matt 21-28 This is the first installment of the new Come Follow Me video cast. But I found I wanted to share it with the podcast as well, so I doubled down. And when I say that, I mean to say that I perhaps quadrupled down! This is by far the LONGEST PODCAST KNOWN to Reflecting LIght. So FAIR WARNING. It's LOOOONG. Break it up, take it in chapters, or not at all. Just let me know if you learned something new or if this was a complete bust. It's an experiment. Above all Happy Easter to each one of you!!!
