You can definitely call him a connoisseur of downtempo, because he stands for me emblematic for the rise of the subgenre and has shaped the scene globally with his countless pieces - no still does. We are talking about Niju who is always good for a surprise with his very special, organic but mega fascinating sound. No matter if alone or together with Ninze & Okaxy as Wide Awake (@wide-awake-8), he always provides with his playful and atmospheric way in his productions, remixes, edits and also sets for special experiences on the dancefloors, living rooms, bedrooms as well actually on all ears in the world. At least on all those who can appreciate downtempo. Definitely for me as a big downbeat fan. Then, now and tomorrow definitely too. I'm sure of it. His set recorded for us is emblematic of his sound. To me, the whole tape basically feels like a typical Niju production, only in XXXXXXL format. At the beginning velvet soft and dreamy, yet discreet groovy and later from and then also danceable. And all garnished with a good portion of hypnotic elements like cranky voices and partly indefinable sound fragments. Great. Definitely a typical Niju, who joins our podcast series with his 2.5 hour journey like painted. Buckle up... I can only repeat myself, but you can expect a journey made for an afterhour. Chapeu. ___________________________ Unsere Nr. 224 kommt heute von einem Künstler welcher mich seit einer gefühlten Ewigkeit begleitet und seither immer wieder mit seinen neuen Produktionen zu begeistern versteht. Man kann ihn definitiv als Connaisseur des Downtempo's bezeichnen, da er für mich sinnbildlich für den Aufstieg des Subgenre steht und mit seinen unzähligen Stücken die Szene global geprägt hat – nein immer noch tut. Die Rede ist von Niju der mit seinem ganz speziellen, organischen aber mega faszinierenden Sound immer wieder für eine Überraschung gut ist. Egal ob alleine oder zusammen mit Ninze & Okaxy als Wide Awake (https://soundcloud.com/wide-awake-8), so sorgt er stets mit seiner verspielten und stimmungsvollen Art in seinen Produktionen, Remixen, Edits und auch Sets für besondere Erlebnisse auf den Dancefloors, Wohnzimmern, Schlafzimmern….ja eigentlich auf allen Ohren der Welt. Zumindest auf all denjenigen, die dem Downtempo etwas abgewinnen können. Für mich als großen Downbeat Fan definitiv. Damals, heute und morgen auch. Da bin ich mir sicher. Sein für uns aufgenommenes Set steht sinnbildlich für seinen Sound. Mir kommt das ganze Tape im Grunde vor wie eine typische Niju Produktion, nur im XXXXXXL Format. Anfangs samt weich und verträumt, dennoch dezent groovig und später ab und dann auch tanzbar. Und alles garniert mit einer gehörigen Portion an hypnotischen Elementen wie verschrobenen Stimmen und teils undefinierbaren Klangfetzen. Klasse. Definitiv ein typischer Niju, der sich mit seiner 2,5 stündigen Reise wie gemalt in unsere Podcast Reihe einreiht. © artwork by @bonnieford-1 Danger Dave (https://soundcloud.com/dangerrrave) presents Afterhour Sounds Podcast Nr. 200 Erzähle uns doch mal ein bisschen was über deine musikalischen Einflüsse und deinen (musikalischen) Hintergrund? - Ich hab mit 14 Jahren angefangen Schlagzeug zu spielen und seitdem einen bunten Blumenstrauß an musikalischen Erfahrungen sammeln dürfen. Das ging mit der klassischen Punkbandgeschichte los, über Metalcore hin zum Jazztrio. Kirchenchor, Bigband, Singer/Songwriter, Bluesrock, RʼnʼB, Folk, Pop...da war so einiges mit dabei. Parallel dazu hab ich in der 12. Klasse angefangen, Beats mit Fruity Loops zu basteln. Irgendwann wollt ich dann meine eigenen Tracks auch mal selbst spielen und hab mich hinter die Plattenteller geschwungen. Eine zeitlang war ich ganz arg hin- und hergerissen zwischen Mensch- & Maschinenmusik, aber zum Glück vermischen sich diese beiden Welten für mich zunehmend, was sich auch in der musikalischen Bandbreite meines kleinen Mixtapes für euch wiederspiegelt. Was macht in deinen Augen eine gute Afterhour aus? - Liebe Menschen, gute Musik, eine geistreiche Partie “Pantomime” und genügend Sofas für alle! Vielleicht rafft man sich sogar nochmal auf rauszugehen, um die Kraft des neuangebrochenen Tages zu nutzen und zu schauen, wohin einen diese so treiben kann. Aber einfach abhängen, kiffen und Musikhören ist auch okay. Je nach Energielevel, Personenkonstellation und Örtlichkeit... Magst du uns noch ein paar Gedanken zu diesem Mix mit auf den Weg geben? - Ich fühle mich in erster Linie geehrt, die 200 vollmachen zu dürfen, herzlichen Glückwunsch an dieser Stelle! Ursprünglich wollte ich einen eher Lo-Fi-House- ousgerichteten Sound a la Ninze zu fahren. Da ich aber in den letzten Wochen auch viel Ambient gehört habe und merke, wie wohltuend und beruhigend diese Musik für mich ist, wollte ich das gerne an alle Hörer weitergeben. What did they mean to you in the past? A: I know some tracks of the set since a long time, so they are still in my home-playlist when I clean the flat for example. I added some tracks I heard recently and pitched them down - cause that is how I met the bass. Q: How did you find your artist name NINZE and what does it mean? A: Well it is always hard for me to find names (also for songs or EP-name is the worst!), so me and my friend/music-partner Tom (Okaxy) tried to find a name which looks nice. The letters are matching together - but it doesn´t mean something or has a particular pronunciation. Q: Which festivals are you playing for this summer? A: I am very looking forward to Fusion Festival this year and also to see some acts I would never see otherwise at MS Dockville. But there might be some smaller ones again, which are my favorite mostly.

Somewhere, way up there in a galaxy far, far away, there was a boy floating around in space. This boy's head was filled with sounds so trippy, so unique and so melancholic – that when an idea came, it was unlike anything you'd ever heard before. The boy's ears were filled with endless amounts of recycled stardust – so that whenever he put on his headphones to make music, everything he created sounded like heaven. And the boy's mind was constantly buzzing with impulses – so that whenever he expressed himself, they came pouring out of him in the form of sublime music. To us, he is known as Ninze. Ninze is multi-faceted, yet utterly recognisable in his style. Having first taken the music scene by storm with unique productions and famously slo-ow DJ sets alongside his 2nd half Okaxy, he has since evolved as a solo artist as well as a member of the production- and live performance trio Wide Awake. No matter what he does, you can always hear it: that distinct sound that makes your knees feel like jelly and your thoughts like cloudy shadows. It's a vibe that transports you to a place in your mind, something in between diving into trippy underwater melancholia and shooting up into deep cosmic space. It's only fitting then that our next podcast is a live set recorded specially for the Urban Cosmic Universe. If you listen closely, you'll notice the little shooting stars, pulling you deeper and deeper into a world you can lose yourself in with ease. mein freund und mitbewohner frithjof merkt in regelmaeszigen abstaenden an, dass er nicht verstehen wuerde, warum ich “nur noch techno” hoere. als ausgleich dafuer, dass meistens eines meiner mobilen endgeraete das klinkenende des klinke-cinch kabels belegt und von da aus trancetechno durch die kueche schickt, passt er dann montage oder dienstage ab, in denen ich mehr oder minder regungslos 37 stunden in meinem bett liege, um seinerseits in “muss-die-decke-ueber-die-ohren-ziehen-lautstaerke” etwas abzuspielen, das boese zungen schon mal als “schrecklichen ethno-house” bezeichnet haben. absatz. julian hat mir offensichtlich am 28.01.2012 eine e-mail geschrieben in der es um das zweite reich und schoen festival ging. aus unerfindlichen gruenden wird mir diese bestaendig in jedweden e-mail-suchen angezeigt, ohne dass die suchbegriffe in der mail vorkommen wuerden. seine karriere, auch in cahoots mit seinem partner in crime “okaxy” jedenfalls, ist seitdem steil verlaufen. auf facebook sieht man sie auf berggipfeln – auf welche sie das, was sie selbst als ketapop bezeichnen, gebracht hat – ballonhosen und ponchos tragen, diese gottverdammten hippies. dieser ketapop ragt qualitativ montags, aehnlich der gipfel aus dem suedamerikanischen smog, aus der kueche heraus. sehr weit bewegen kann ich mich deswegen zwar noch nicht, aber ich dreh mich zumindest auf den bauch und starre eine weile an die wand, statt an die decke. https://soundcloud.com/ninze https://www.facebook.com/Ninze-172325572871844/?fref=ts TRACKLIST: ######## ######## UP NEXT: Moritz Kaiser
